Teams from Joe Beef and Maison Publique join forces on a new project, McKiernan - Traiteur Luncheonette Rôtisserie. Located on the second floor of the Complexe Dompark, an industrial building located along the Lachine Canal
McKiernan is a spacious, open dining space with lots of natural light where guests repeatedly praise the food, especially Brussels sprouts, rotisserie chicken, schnitzel, prime rib, and donuts; the menu's shareable, group-friendly format makes it a popular spot for celebrations and large dinners, with brunch also getting positive notes for value and variety. The vibe is lively and welcoming, a rustic-industrial setting that feels warm despite sometimes being loud. Service is praised for friendliness and attentiveness, though several reviews mention uneven pacing and occasional oversights, with a few evenings accompanied by slow service or delays, and some guests reporting mismatches between expectations and the bill or certain policies. Several guests note convenient parking and the option to reserve, and staff sometimes go above and beyond, offering a complimentary dessert or accommodating group needs. Overall, the experience is described as delicious and enjoyable, with standout items delivering comfort food at a solid price, making McKiernan a go-to for groups and celebrations, though a few visits highlight room for improvement in consistency and noise control.
Staff is nice 👍
That being said, I had a few issues with my experience:
When crowded, due to the high ceiling, large open space, it becomes difficult to hear each other.
Furthermore, the menu is misleading, take for example the schnitzel option, not much description about what it is, but when served, there's a sunny-side up egg on top of it & a few smoked anchovies on top of it (I strongly dislike anchovies & would have never picked this item having known)
It is rare that I find menus like this but comon! Let's stop menus with hidden items. This is not a game, the menu should properly describe what you're getting, don't give it a silly name, just describe the ingredients please!
Our party of four visited on a Sunday evening. There was ample parking available at the front, despite signage indicating potential towing; after confirming with the hostess, we were assured that parking on the opposite side was acceptable. We were seated by the window, providing a pleasant view of the spacious dining area. The restaurant attracted numerous families with children, resulting in a lively atmosphere which became quieter around 7:30 pm.
The cocktails were excellent. We ordered four appetizers; three arrived promptly, but we needed to remind the server about the fourth, which was delivered five minutes later along with our main courses. Although not ideal, the food itself was enjoyable. Our selections included prime rib, rotisserie chicken, & schnitzel, all prepared well. We also ordered a bottle of red wine for the main course, but it remained unopened on the counter near our table for approximately twenty minutes before we had to flag down our waiter.
While the staff provided friendly service, it appeared that servers were assigned too many tables, resulting in an inconsistent pace & several overlooked items. The team addressed this by offering a complimentary dessert to share among our group.
Overall a nice evening with good food but chaotic service

Food was ok, schnitzel was a 1/10 dry & flavourless, the salad was amazing! Service was good & the overall space & decor was really nice! Wont be back, too many options in montreal to waste your money here, sorry!
We had the chicken, schnitzel, a side salad & roasted potatoes. The potatoes were golden & lathered in olive oil which was wonderful. The salad was fresh & the schnitzel crispy with a tangy sauce. The chicken was juicy but the gravy was way too salty for my liking.
The key lime pie we ordered for dessert however was a perfect way to finish the meal & made up for the extra salt with the chicken.
Je trouve dommage qu'aujourd'hui ça coute 42$ pour deux shnitzel quand il y a peu de temps on pouvait commander un « REPAS » schnitzel qui contenait 5 schnitzel pour environ 30$.
Shrinkflation at it's best!

Premium rotisserie/schnitzel spot that is still very reasonably priced for the quality. Order out, date night, large groups, they do it all & they do it extremely well.
Probably the best boston cream donuts in Montreal!
It was my third time eating at this restaurant & the other two times were great. I haven't been back since 2024 but last night the schnitzel was so dry & I ordered fries with my meal that took so long to arrive that my schnitzel was basically finished by the time the fries arrived. & the fries were COLD 🥲. I would have said something but the waiter never checked on me. Anyway so sad because I really liked this place! The hostess was really nice & the interior is beautiful but overall I was pretty disappointed 😔.
If you haven't tried their brunch, RUN don't walk. It was my first time trying it & they did not disappoint! Servers are sooo friendly & fast. We tried the croque madame & the schnitzel sandwich + extra hashbrowns. Everything was sooo delicious! Just perfect portions & very tasty. We also got lattes, they were great! To top it off we ordered 2 donuts: dulce de leche & maple! Exquisite. Will definitely come back to try other items, the place has big windows that light the whole restaurant. The vibes are super nice.

The staff is friendly & offer great service, & really enjoyed the atmosphere. The meal is a bit limited, but the foods are high quality & taste very good. The best place to eat Brussels Sprouts & Schnitzel.
Delicious, affordable, & healthy are an impossible trinity. No matter what you choose, you can only satisfy two of these criteria. But this restaurant defies that rule. I loves the large arched windows. The sunset creates a European-style romance.
The schnitzel is fantastic, thinly fried & crispy. Served with lemon slices & a chopped chili & olive ,it's a savory & flavorful dish that cuts through the greasiness. It brings back memories of my time in Austria.
The Alexander's roast chicken is also a standout.
There's ample parking outside the restaurant, which is absolutely convenient.
I had dinner at McKiernan & it was a solid experience. Not mind-blowing, but definitely enjoyable. The ambiance was warm & inviting, chill but still nicely put together, the kind of place you can relax in.
We started with the Burrata à la Passata & the tomato sauce absolutely stole the show. It was insanely good, super rich & flavorful. The kravlax trout with deviled egg was an interesting combo, delicate & fresh, though not as memorable as the burrata.
The Schnitzel Holstein was satisfying & well-executed. Crispy, topped with a fried egg, & very comforting overall. Nothing revolutionary, but it hit the spot.
The real highlight for me was the cheesecake. Hands down one of the best I've ever had-super creamy, smooth, & just sweet enough without being heavy.
Overall, McKiernan served up a very good meal with some standout moments. I'd go back, especially for that tomato sauce & the cheesecake.
This is probably my 10th visit to McKiernan, & it's about time I updated my review. This spot never misses. The schnitzel with eggs & rich bomba sauce was killer. The 16oz prime rib? Flawless. The fusilli with beef ragu & white wine sauce was pure comfort food, elevated. We also had the burrata with peaches & beets, creamy, sweet, earthy, absolutely on point. Shoutout to our waiter Dimitri: hilarious, sharp, & professional. It still amazes me how this second floor gem in the middle of nowhere keeps filling up. McKiernan just delivers, every single time.
This is a perfect brunch/lunch/dinner spot! Relaxed but beautiful space, great for large groups & sharing! It's usually quite busy but thankfully they take reservations, so reserve in advance. The food is outstanding. The brunch menu is fantastic, & super cheap for the quality of food you receive! I've been here a few times now & every time I've been blown away. A little hard to get to using public transit, but worth the trek! (Honorable mention for the schnitzel, you must try it!)
To say I'm impressed with this place is an understatement!!! Have been 3 times now & each time as exquisite as the last. Yesterday we had the breakfast schnitzel, the chicken salad sandwich special, the hash browns, coffee & a donut & holyyy. Absolutely fantastic. The service is great there, the coffee is strong, the interior is beautiful with a ton of natural light & the high ceilings are great. Over 10/10 breakfast spot & I'm not sure I'll ever come to Montreal again without going here for brunch before we leave
