This was going to be my very first ever one star review but the service & service recovery earned it a second star. We had high expectations from google reviews but everything fell apart after the appetizers & our Christmas dinner was sadly ruined.
All three pastas were beyond disappointing. As an aubergine lover, I went straight for the Rigatoni alla Norma ($27) but after the first excited taste then a second suspicious taste, I was immediately certain that I wasn't going to have a third bite. The sauce was bland, basically canned tomato paste, & the cubed aubergine stew was overcooked, uninviting & had a hint of staleness.
We had encouraged our guest of honour to order the day's pasta special - Linguini Carbonara ($27) because well who can spoil carbonara. Sadly, it was ruined. The chef had charred the pancetta to such an incredibly sad state that its bitterness had infused into the oil. Attempting but failing to create a sense of richness, this same bitter, pungent oil was poured over the linguini as its base sauce (with hardly a hint of egg), creating a dish of intensely bitter simply inedible pasta. I looked back to see if it was a mistake arising from a busy kitchen but it wasn't busy so this big mistake was to me not evidently unintentional.
The Fiorentini alla Bolognese ($25) was the best of all three pastas. It was at this juncture that my friend stopped me & said'it's not the best, it's just the least bad of them three'. Enough said. & as the host of this Christmas dinner, my evening came crashing down.
Despite the above, as I had previously mentioned, the service was faultless. Drinks were topped up quickly; the waitress was amiable, efficient & made us feel right at home despite the very loud music. Without our asking, she also apologetically removed two basically untouched pastas from our bill & comp'd our espressos. None of this was her fault so she was ultimately rewarded with a 50% gratuity on a $140 bill.
My final thoughts. Disappointment with a capital D. Prices are high for what this place is but these are all stated on the menu so it's fair game for all. Make sure to ask for prices of the daily specials though as those are not stated anywhere otherwise you may be rudely surprised by the $150 beef special of the day.
If you were to drop by for a simple evening of light drinks & appetizers to share, I would say that Mano Cornuto could be a happy choice as the Caesar Salad ($17), Piatto Antipasto ($17) & Burrata ($20) were delightful. But sadly that's where it ends. The kitchen seems to be good at putting ingredients together (ie. plating appetizers) but anything that requires cooking & true culinary skill, it fails at miserably, well at least for that evening, at our table.
Great food , everything we tasted ,the branzino crudo the pesto the caesar the desserts was excellent .
Service is friendly, everyone is nice. It was really refreshing. The food was even better; the pasta well al dente, caesar salad that's actually good, wide selection of drinks. Will be coming back to try the whole menu!
Absolutely insane sandwiches, & the best caesar salad I've ever had in my life
The service was ok. The pesto pasta was delicious in flavor but arrived tepid; when reheated with added water, it came back warmer but unfortunately diluted. The cocktail was very good. The Caesar salad was excellent.
As a walk-in, I was seated at the bar behind a cement column - the last spot available. I asked to wait for a table at the bar but wasn't offered this option, which would have made the experience more enjoyable.
Overall, the restaurant has a lot of potential, & while this visit could have been better, I'll give it another try.
Literally cannot describe the quality of this food. It is unreal. The focaccia is epic. Always enjoy the crudo & caesar salad. Everything is delicious!!
Best Italian in town. The service is top notch. I STRONGLY recommend !!!!
For the food here is my recommendation :
- Caesar salad
- Bar carpaccio
- risotto
- pistachio cake
My first experience at Mano Cornuto & it was amazing. My two friends introduced me to the place & we had a Caesar to share, a bolognese & a pesto pasta with a sopressata sandwich & the food was so delicious. On top of that I had an old fashion & it was made to perfection. I really liked the environment, with a cool vibe & friendly staff making the experience memorable. Definitely going to return.
We shared the burrata, Caesar salad, & tartare, everything was delicious. We sat at the bar, which had the perfect ambiance for a cozy date night. Highly recommend & can't wait to go back!
What an amazing italian restaurant! Everything from the quality of the ingredients, the cozy ambiance, to the wonderful service is perfect.
The salad & its dressing was super tasty, deifnitely a very nice twist of the average caesar salad. Also the quantity & quality was just ideal. & the focaccia bread? Very nice.
I had a great time sitting at the bar, & watching them prepare different pastries while waiting for my dish.
This my spot! Good food, good service & always action, especially during the summer. I can't give 6 stars so 5 will have to suffice. Keep up the good work T & the gang.
PS.. Order the caesar salad
Food was decent, special mention to the delicious Caesar salad. However, service was poor & the waitress was quite discourteous & nonchalant. Would still return for their salad & pistachio cake.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at Mano Cornuto, & it was an unforgettable experience! From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance & inviting decor set the perfect tone for our evening. We started with the Caesar salad, which was crisp & flavorful, perfectly dressed without being overwhelming. The burrata was a standout - creamy & rich, it paired beautifully with the fresh accompaniments. The roasted squash (zucca arrosto) was a delightful surprise, showcasing a wonderful balance of sweetness & savoriness that left us wanting more. For our main course, we indulged in the mafaldine al pesto, which was simply divine. The pasta was cooked to perfection, & the pesto was vibrant & fragrant, making it one of the best pasta dishes we've had in a long time. We also tried the carpaccio de manzo, which was beautifully presented & melt-in-your-mouth tender. We were so full by the end of our meal that we didn't have room for dessert, but that just gives us another reason to come back! Overall, Mano Cornuto exceeded our expectations in every way. Highly recommend for anyone looking for authentic Italian cuisine in Montreal!
The Caesar salad was very good & the service was great too.
Stopped in for a quick lunch & lucked out as we didn't make a reso. Definitely recommend making one! Great vibes & fantastic service. While we waited for our table, we watched the well oiled kitchen do their thing. Our mouths watered in anticipation. Their menu is simple & short. You know it's going to be good! Order the Caesar salad. You'll be sorry if you don't! So good! We also shared the burrata that came with the most delicious focaccia bread. We shared 2 pastas to taste - tonnarelli pesto & fiorentini alla bolognese. Both super tasty & perfectly cooked.
Some of the best pasta I've ever had. The pesto & the bolognese dishes are beyond amazing. The staff, from the servers to the chefs are just fantastic & so damn welcoming. But please don't sleep on the Caesar salad, minestrone soup & desserts!!
Dommage. Les verres de cocktails étaient bons.
Cool place. Highly recommend the burrata & Caesar salad. The pastas were amazing. Cocktails & wine were great.
Restaurant was mediocre. Apparently all tables only by reservations, however it wasn't that full on a Saturday night & we got seated at the bar. Had antipasti, olives, Caesar salad, swordfish & pesto pasta. Sitting on the bar allowed us to see how the food was cooked & at some point I wish I didn't see it. There was 0 passion in the cooking, food was pretty much tossed around, hands were going in all kinds of containers even the ones that had spoons in them, honestly it was awful to witness. Everything is basically showered in olive oil. Olives were dry & old. Caesar salad didn't have Caesar sauce, it didn't taste like Caesar sauce at all. Swordfish for $36 wasn't fresh & cooked questionably. The pesto pasta was alright, nothing phenomenal. (I'm surprised the reviews are so amazing) The servers were nice though. All around the food was nothing special, the vibe was nice to suggest it's a good restaurant, however after seeing how the food was prepared & tasting it, I can't even give 3 stars.
I'm stupid picky about Italian food, having lived in Rome. But Mano Cornuto is the real deal - absolutely exquisite. & they serve up what may be the best Caesar salad ever made. Wish I could give more than five stars.
