Review Summary

Taken together, reviews describe Mamie Clafoutis as an artisanal bakery with outstanding pastries and breads, especially croissants and the Oh Mon Dieu croissant, along with fresh, flavorful items like cannelés and kouign amann; the coffee experience is noted for a distinctive machine, though some say the latte is average. The interior is repeatedly described as beautiful and warm, yet several readers lament a renovation that shifted to a self serve, automated model that can feel impersonal and supermarket like, with less human interaction. Prices are seen as high by some and worth it for the quality by others, while a few miss the old emphasis on the counter, welcome service, and in house preparation. Convenience remains a theme with self checkouts, a wide pastry selection, and options to takeout or dine in upstairs, though seating can be limited in some locations. Overall the pastries are consistently praised and the bakery remains a must stop for many, but the experience has become polarized as efficiency and modern design gained prominence at the expense of the warm, neighborhood atmosphere.

Self-checkout 2025: interesting concept. Liked my blueberry tart & my friend's almond chocolatine.

Takeout 2020: Pleasant service, good selection of delicious pastries

Dine in 2023: they have a seating area upstairs I never noticed before that's actually cute. Really should advertise it more. Had the quiche lorraine & the blue cheese walnut baguette which were delicious with a chai latte. My friend's tuna quiche wasn't the best though.

Whenever we're in Montreal, Mamie Clafoutis is a staple stop for us to pick up a selection of delicious pastries to bring home to BC. Their pastries are consistently high-quality & incredibly flavorful, with each bite capturing the authentic taste of French baking. The standout items include their croissants, which are perfectly flaky & buttery, along with unique offerings like pistachio & almond croissants. What truly sets this place apart, beyond the excellent pastries, is the customer service. The staff are always warm, helpful, & make the experience even better by assisting with selections & packaging up everything carefully for travel. They make you feel welcome, & you can tell they really care about their customers' experience. Mamie Clafoutis is truly a gem in Montreal for anyone who loves top-notch pastries & wonderful service. Highly recommend stopping by!

I've been to the St. Henri location. This one is pretty similar, although the seating is much better. More seating available in the upstairs room, there's even a piano I played around with a bit. Couldn't remember the first location's selection well enough to compare. But independently it's great, splendid selection of sweet & savoury items. Service was fine as well.

Very good. Very friendly too.

I went in with my Franglais & the girl smiled & spoke to me in English. I asked to order in French & she was okay & repeated everything back to get my pronunciation right & then in English to confirm.

I bought a selection of baked items. The very recently devoured cinnamon roll was out of this world good. More of a croissant texture, perfect levels of sugar & spice, moist & crumbly. It was the best I’ve ever had. We also got a chocolate & pistachio croissant, pain chocolats & a couple of baguettes. There’s also sandwiches to go, which I didn’t need but I saw some egg mayo (egg salad), tuna, breakfast, cheese & ham.

So good, shame we’re only passing through the city en route
