Let me start off by saying, I barely write reviews.
My coworker & I previously ordered by delivery to our place of work, from this exact restaurant earlier this month.
Today, my coworker & I drove to Mama Dumplings from boul des Sources, to have lunch at this exact location & arrived at 12:10pm. We were the 3rd customers there & it was clear the two other customers before us had already ordered. We already knew what we wanted & we both placed our single order of steamed/ fried dumplings.
By 12:28pm, people had come into the restaurant to order & people were getting served & paying for their order before us - they were dining-in.
My coworker asked for our order to then be taken to go as we resume work at 1pm.
At 12:48pm, we asked the gentlemen - who was in charge, if our order was ready? The gentleman seemed too busy to care, while he was holding two soup bowls in his hands for another customer. My coworker & I left the restaurant empty handed - with no meals.
I have no clue what the issue was, it's one thing if everyone is also waiting & isn't being served, it's another thing when a ton of customer also dining-in & everyone who came after you, is eating before you. We are both Canadian females, ages 27-38 & mixed race & black.
Delicious soup & delicate wontons in the soup. .
The steamed dumplings were a very nice size full of chicken & flavour (we have also ordered porc). Very delicious & satisfying. I will be be back .
It took awhile for us to get our food, so maybe the waiting created unreasonable expectations? In any case, the dumplings had a meh factor. We ordered a bunch & only finished 1/3. The peanut butter wontons upset our tummy's unfortunately. The pan fried dumplings tasted better than the steamed.
The food tasted good. We ordered the Chef Choice, a combination of different dumpling chosen by the chef. I had steamed, my Mom had pan fried. Mom had food poisoning. We can't identify which flavour because there was a mix. Won't be dining here again.
Very fresh dumplings made to order. Lamb are very special. Shrimp won ton soup has a very shrimpy broth, so good. Averages at about 16$ a bamboo bowl of 15 steamed dumplings. Fried is a bit more. Cozy.
Steamed dumplings are dry
Not tasty
Not much sauce
I believe the concept is about homemade food, but not restaurant food
There is potential to exploit if business would listen to customers…
Food used to be decent but deteriorated quite drastically recently. Spring rolls were not crispy enough & tasted like the oil used wasn't hot enough. The steamed dumplings were all glued together & no way we could get one out without breaking the dumpling wrapper, thus losing all the soup inside. Honestly, I can easily get a pack of frozen dumplings from an Asian grocery store & taste much better & cost far less. Also, we can see quite a lot of dust & spider webs on the decorative lightbulbs & steamers on the walls, makes one wonder how much effort the owner took to maintain the store.
Tried the steamed pork & coriander dumplings & the steamed pork & green onions dumplings. Loved the taste. Good potions. Fare price.
The space & atmosphere was nice & staff were welcoming. The peanut butter dumplings were good. The service was not great. We waited a long time for water & the appetizer plates took a long time to clear. The food was alright but when given the choice between fried or steamed dumplings, we were NOT told about the extra fee for fried dumplings which isn't right. At the end, they said they couldn't split any bills either which made it a bit more inconvenient.
