At the top of my list were the famed sister restaurants Joe Beef & Liverpool House, which are well known Montreal institutions but which I, like many, had become familiar with via the late Anthony Bourdain. Liverpool House is also where Justin Trudeau once took Barrack Obama for dinner once. Joe Beef was filled up a few weeks in advance but I was able to snag a reservation for one at the bar on a Thursday evening at Liverpool House. & I figured, if it's good enough for Obama it should be OK for me. They have an often-changing menu that varies with the seasons, as well as some regular specialities. They are known for the lobster spaghetti so I had my mind on that going in, but seeing the market price on this day I decided it was just too rich for my blood. I considered the Pork Belly Normandy briefly but, in the end., went with the French bistro classic of steak frites, medium-rare. As an aside, I have decided to try to switch my steak preference from medium to medium-rare, & this as the first time actioning this. While waiting for my dinner I accepted a recommendation for a nice glass of red, made small talk with my neighbor who seemed to work in the restaurant industry & know the staff here, & politely declined the offer to do a shot with them. My neighbour lamented the chef refused to make him a ham & cheese sandwich; I suggested he order it as a Croque Monsieur instead & he thought this may work. I'll handle the sides first. The veg was a wedge of lettuce dressed with a light vinaigrette. The dressing was good but, while it's popular in fancy restaurants, I find this a lazy way to make a salad. I'm not a big fry guy. These had some crisp & were well-salted, & with the mayo I enjoyed them. The steak was served sliced & in a sauce, & was cooked as ordered. It was flavourful & tasty & I savoured every bite. The simple things done well are enjoyable indeed. I'll try to be back my next time in Montreal for sure. A good meal to start my culinary long weekend.
Food: Lobster spaghetti: Sauce is pretty good. However lobster tail have the texture of Rubber & claw is undercooked. Steak frites: salty, not much flavor otherwise Service: the guy is good, however this place is under stuff & i was going to tell him about the lobster issue but I guess he don't have time to come around. Also they charge tip on top of tax which I find crazy... Atmosphere: noisy- can't hear anything basically. Cramp in small spaces & trying not to knock over plates. Overall it would be okay for a 50 dollar restaurant but at this price point not worth it I would say
Fantastic meal shared with my friend from Venice. Oysters, main of black bass, fries (the best he's ever had). & that dessert... 5 stars indeed. Thank you Cecile & the reset of the service team for a great meal.

Nourriture exceptionnelle. J y retourne c'est certain.
Great seasonal menu, cozy atmosphere & delicious food. Very welcoming staff, & the wait time is very reasonable. The selection of wines are great for larger groups of friends, & for dates. Definitely recommend the seasonal seafood dishes & of course, the meat dishes. Will definitely return for a special occasion, or pay a visit to its sister restaurant, Joe Beef.
Incredibly dark in the restaurant, 70% of the diners using phone flashlights to read the menu. Dishes were hit or miss, the frog legs tasted fine but were full of tiny broken bones, sharp & difficult to eat. Some dishes were generously portioned, others were very small. Ordering sides separately seemed like a bit of a cash grab. Coworker was given a piece of pork belly with a 3 x 3 inch square of solid fat & wasn't thrilled, the kitchen told us that pork belly is'a fairly fatty cut of meat' which was somewhat insulting. Combined with the fact that the restaurant was incredibly dark & 70% of the customers were using flashlights to read the menu, you can't help but think that the ego of the kitchen overrides common sense. The service was fine & our waitress clearly tried her best in a tough situation. All in all, for what you're paying, the restaurant was a let down.
Had a wonderful time at Liverpool House! The food was fantastic, the atmosphere inviting, & the team super friendly. Service was top-notch. Highly recommend!
What a friendly bunch serving up fantastic food & drinks. Whether seafood or landfood you'll be impressed. Great food, drinks, atmosphere; would recommend to all visitors to Montreal. The team broadly was great but bar tender Matt stood out as a great host! Fab dinner. Eat here!
My wife & I had dinner there Saturday night & the food was delicious! The pork belly was tender with crisp skin. It was rich & salty. My wife had the cabbage with mushrooms which was surprisingly good for a vegetarian dish. We shared the market vegetables which were squash with butter & honey. I personally thought it tasted more like a dessert than a side dish but it was good none the less. My biggest criticism of this restaurant was that it is very dark. We used our phone flashlights to read the menue & when the dishes arrived we had trouble seing them. It looked like the chef payed a lot of attention to the details & it would have been nice to see what we were eating. I will probably try this place again.
