Le Serpent relies entirely on its reputation & its industrial-chic atmosphere to distract you from the fact that you are being fleeced.
A $430 bill for a couple with two children, without even ordering a bottle of wine & without a steak (or any protein for that matter), that's pretty offensive in my book. The pasta dishes are'delicate' only in the sense that they are missing the actual food.
When the bill arrived, it felt like a punitive tax for choosing the wrong restaurant. A bitter (& starving) end to what was supposed to be a nice night.
If you gotta go there, just be ready to hit the Five Guys two blocks away before or after. But better yet, just don't go.
Le Serpent was an incredible experience from start to finish. We sat at the bar, which created a very intimate & comfortable atmosphere. The team was attentive, warm, & knowledgeable - especially our server, who was exceptionally well versed in the wine menu & guided us toward great pairings.
The food itself was outstanding. The octopus was tender & flavourful, the pasta was fresh & beautifully executed, & the fish - seared to absolute perfection - was one of the highlights of the night. Portion sizes were generous, & the pricing felt very fair for the quality & craftsmanship of the dishes.
A fantastic dining experience overall. We're already excited to return!
Perfect food with knowledgeable & welcoming staff.
Excellent atmosphere, with interesting'Industrial Pea Pod' light fixtures, & some great pipe-work art above the bar area. Not too noisy.
We went with the large group, & it was an extremely nice experience. The dishes came out at just the right time.
There will be no surprise in my review...
Le Serpent was simply fantastic!
The food was hmpf ! Delicious. We were a group of 6 people, & we all loved our different dishes.
The service was impeccable, with a friendly waiter & smiles all around.
This restaurant intrigued me since its opening because of its industrial ambiance, & I'm glad that I got to try it.
It looks very unassuming from the outside … but trust me … once you make your way inside , the modern industrial ambiance is quite welcoming. The service was fantastic. Our server recommended several options of wine to pair with our dishes. Each dish had its unique flavour pairings. The portions were somewhat small for the appetizers, but the taste made up for it. Lovely experience.
Extremely overpriced pasta & quite small portions. Service took one hour for our 2 pasta dishes to arrive. Fancy presentation & nice setting though...
An Italian meal that wasn't spectacular but was delicious. However, dessert was a huge disappointment. My sister & I chose the following dishes: - Parfait au Foie Gras (appetizer) ~ $32 - Octopus (appetizer) ~ $26 - Lobster Risotto (main course) ~ $53 - Magret de Canard (main course) ~ $46 - Tiramisu (dessert) ~ $18 - Strawberry Rhubarbe (dessert) ~ $18 Talking about the food, I especially like the foie gras with the combination of cherries that makes the dish very fresh, but still retains the original flavor of the foie gras with a light, fatty elegance & a smooth texture. However, the Lobster Risotto, although the dish that my sister & I were looking forward to, was a bit bland, the flavor was normal & nothing special. Dessert was a real disappointment. This is the worst tiramisu I have ever eaten, whether it is a mid-range restaurant, dessert shops or Michelin restaurants, all have desserts that are superior to this one. My sister & I were having a very comfortable & enjoyable dinner, but the dessert experience made the meal go down a notch. In terms of space, the restaurant will be a bit difficult to find with a rather dark space. The price does not include 15% VAT & 25% tip. The total bill was nearly $300 for 2 people, not too expensive but still not worthy of the quality that my sister & I expected.
Overall, it was a fantastic experience accentuated by high-quality dishes & attentive service. For appetizers, we had the special wild mushroom toast, which was simply divine, & the octopus dish which was quite solid. Main course we shared a branzino dish where for me the star of the dish was actually the vegetable medley. Our daughter chose the duck & it was absolutely lovely. Drinks were well made & the tiramisu dessert with an espresso shot on top was mind blowing. Highly recommend this bit out of the way restaurant
The food was good, especially the pasta dishes. The service was not... We were given the wrong salad, (we receive a bowl of lettuce with no dressing, nothing instead of the summer salad). I asked for the menu & did not receive it so I got up & walked to the front to retrieve it. It was not taken off the bill & it took us 30 minutes to receive the bill. Our drinks also arrived after our main course. Overall, bad experience & would not recommend eating in.
As an Italian, I will give my honest review; this is not an upscale Italian restaurant. Atmosphere: too noisy, tables have no cover, poor Ikea chairs, definitely not a place for a date. The only decent dish was the risotto, amazing taste. The other dishes had many cooking mistakes like chili on the seafood pasta or too much bell peppers on the octopus, the dessert was a tasteless disaster strawberry fronzoli. Total price for a couple with a bottle of Franciacorta 330 CAD. How about hire an Italian chef & have some real traditional Italian options like Ossobuco Risotto?
Located in some industrial building in an area seemingly with nothing going on is this restaurant. Cool lighting & atmosphere, good service & food came out quickly. Food portions weren't huge but rabbit & venison dishes were well presented & tasted very good. Definitely more premium pricing but recommended none the less.
Food was good but very small portion & pricy. Service was great. The restaurant was noisy & the music restaurant played was terrible , & some of dishes didn’t meet my taste.
First time. I was skeptical at first, the entrance is dodgy & once you walk in, the furnishing is industrial & spartan. Parking isn't easy. Menu is slim & focused. I wasn't happy to see $35 pasta dishes but it was worth every bite. I had the pork flank/nduja dish & every bit was an umami joy. I started with the Serpant Sazerac, great cocktail with freshness & strength. Can't wait to go back & try more.
