Review Summary

Keung Kee is widely recognized as a go-to destination for authentic, old-school Cantonese cuisine in Montreal, offering generous portions and excellent value that keep patrons returning for years. While the atmosphere is unpretentious and the service style is fast and straightforward, experiences with the staff range from helpful and efficient to occasionally brusque. Diners frequently praise staples like the beef chow fun, roast duck, and fresh seafood, though some have noted inconsistencies in dish seasoning or occasional frustrations regarding tipping practices and billing. Despite mixed reports on service interactions and decor, the restaurant remains a beloved local favorite for those seeking a reliable, flavourful, and traditional dining experience.

I've been in Montreal this week for a conference at the Palais des congrès de Montréal, a very suitable & convenient conference venue. As you would expect, the Palais is surrounded by many hotels, restaurants & cafes, including a very busy Starbucks. But I was surprised to find that it is also right next to a lively mini-China-town that has a variety of Asian restaurants. Tonight I had dinner at Keung Kee, a Cantonese restaurant with a huge menu. After overcoming extreme'embarras du choix' I ordered #193, braised Japanese tofu with eggplants in hot pot with minced pork & salted fish sauce. The braised tofu had a very delicate taste & texture, I had never had anything like that. I've looked around on the internet & found various names & recipes for braised tofu, but nothing like the Japanese-Cantonese fusion dish that I've had tonight at Keung Kee.

Les plats étaient absolument délicieux! Addictifs! Le personnel accueillant & l'ambiance a du caractère. Un endroit très vivant & ouvert tard, c'est super! Déjà hâte d'y retourner!

Food was good. But the service was rude.

Best salt-&-pepper tofu in the area. Go for the food, ignore the complaints about the service. It's direct & prompt. No frills service... but all the food I've had was fantastic.

Just returned, & will go back many times.

El camarero ha sido bastante borde y el plato de medusa con pollo frío no lo recomiendo, ya no solo por la medusa si no porque el pollo lo sirven cocido y frío salido de la nevera.

Got number 114 Tofu, chicken, dried fish with rice for 13.50$.
It was tasteless, I tried to put Soja & Sriracha on it but I just couldn't finish it. Prices are low & service is quick though.

The staff at this restaurant is terrible & incompetent; they do not respond properly to customers or to their superiors. They are very lazy-the food is always served late, & the orders are never complete.
If a customer has time to waste, they might go here; otherwise, they should look elsewhere, because visiting this place just means wasting time & eating bad food.
The worst person of all is the one who calls himself the supervisor; the staff working under him have also become just like him.
