Review Summary

Keung Kee is widely regarded as a staple for authentic Cantonese cuisine in Montreal, praised for its generous portion sizes, fresh seafood, and consistent flavor profiles. Many diners appreciate the extensive menu featuring traditional favorites like beef chow fun, roasted meats, and various hot pot dishes, often noting that the restaurant offers excellent value for the price. While the establishment is frequently busy and maintains a casual, unpretentious atmosphere, experiences with service can be inconsistent, ranging from efficient and prompt to occasionally abrupt. Although some patrons express frustration regarding tipping expectations or variable service interactions, the majority of visitors continue to return for the reliable food quality and the nostalgic, old school dining experience that has made the restaurant a long standing local institution.

This restaurant deserves better rating. We were so glad we went despite the low ratings. If you want authentic Chinese food, order the dishes listed on the wall in Chinese only. The eggplant & tofu, pork belly, & beef chow fun were all amazing!

What an amazing meal this was!! We got the smallest combo there was which included a soup, steamed salted chicken, stir fry beef with bok choy, steamed fish, sweet & sour pork, & white rice. My favourite was the steamed salted chicken - really brought me home for a moment.

All this we got for an incredible value of around $70, though if you want to pay with cash you have to let the server know beforehand. We learnt it the hard way when we asked at the register post meal.

In hindsight, we probably should not have gotten this combo as a party of two as the portion sizes are very large & we definitely struggled to finish everything. As a party of two, definitely just order à la carte as it will be easier on the wallet as well.

Favourite thing is that they serve complimentary taro sago dessert to end the dinner!! Overall a wonderful meal & is definitely going to be one I think about once in a while.

Delicious & authentic Cantonese food served here. I have been back to this restaurant every time i visit Chinatown in Montreal for the last 15 years. They serve generous portions & the food has never disappointed me. Love the beef chow fun, seafood chow mein (Hong Kong style), & the snow pea vegetables. Peeking duck is also excellent.

Really good Cantonese food. Get 185 beef stew in hot pot! It comes with bok choy. It's beef brisket in a rich beefy sauce.

I asked about allergens in Chinese & the server sort of indicated non-verbally none of the dishes I ordered contained peanuts.

However, I recommend you be extra cautious here if you have allergies. The dishes I ordered are ones I am familiar with so I didn't expect there to be peanuts anyway & asked as an extra precaution.

Servers gave us ample time to go over the menu & when I was ready I just made eye contact & they came over. I sat close to the cash.

I showed the server images of photos of the food I wanted & he understood. Bill was very reasonable & food came fast! They kindly packaged my food for me to go home & I went up to the cash to pay by visa. :)

42. Scallop ($10 per scallop with vermicelli) - tasty! I don't think there is butter but it's delicious. The vermicelli is so garlicky but light. Tender scallops.🤤
166. Green beans - ok…I've had better
185. Beef stew in hit pot (Ngau lam Bo)- ❤? absolutely delicious. A few bits of melted, almost jello-like beef tendon. Sits on a bed of bok choy. I will return just for this dish.
267. seafood congee - one size, big bowl. gingery, contains squid, shrimp.
262. small rice - heaping bowl

Our group of trio had the 4 person dinner with came with a plate of chicken, beef & veggie, deep fried fish, & sweet & sour pork. A big bowl of soup & rice were also included, but alas, no red bean soup for dessert. Excellent value & good tasting Cantonese style food for less than $70!

They have the best fried rice I've ever had. Their other dishes such as general tao chicken, stuffed tofu or orange beef are also good, but the seafood fried rice is truly the star.

However, they use disposable plastic table cloth, which produces a lot of plastic waste.

Keung Kee is an institution. Decades ago this place was know as the best restaurant in Montreal's Chinatown & imo it still is. I've honestly have never had a bad dish here; taste & flavours have always been on point.

I recommend their signature mushroom rolls, razor clams, clams with vermicelli, eggplant, beef hotplate & stir fried noodles for all kinds.
