Review Summary

Keung Kee is a long standing Chinatown Montreal restaurant known for authentic Cantonese cooking, delivering flavorful dishes at very good value with generous portions and fast, hot service. Diners praise a wide menu featuring beef chow fun, razor clams, seafood fried rice, roast duck, General Tao, lobster and crab preparations, congee and a variety of soups, with many noting the food is fresh and well seasoned. The atmosphere is casual and busy, unpretentious and sometimes noisy, with service described as efficient and friendly by some and abrupt or tipping dependent by others. Standout items frequently mentioned include mushroom rolls, chow mein, scallops, beef hotpot and orange beef, while many return for favored staples and the reliable daily soups. While the majority consider the price to quality ratio excellent and the dining experience solid, a minority report inconsistent service or decor, and a few caution about tips or the way staff handle requests.

Delicious & authentic Cantonese food served here. I have been back to this restaurant every time i visit Chinatown in Montreal for the last 15 years. They serve generous portions & the food has never disappointed me. Love the beef chow fun, seafood chow mein (Hong Kong style), & the snow pea vegetables. Peeking duck is also excellent.

Really good Cantonese food. Get 185 beef stew in hot pot! It comes with bok choy. It's beef brisket in a rich beefy sauce.

I asked about allergens in Chinese & the server sort of indicated non-verbally none of the dishes I ordered contained peanuts.

However, I recommend you be extra cautious here if you have allergies. The dishes I ordered are ones I am familiar with so I didn't expect there to be peanuts anyway & asked as an extra precaution.

Servers gave us ample time to go over the menu & when I was ready I just made eye contact & they came over. I sat close to the cash.

I showed the server images of photos of the food I wanted & he understood. Bill was very reasonable & food came fast! They kindly packaged my food for me to go home & I went up to the cash to pay by visa. :)

42. Scallop ($10 per scallop with vermicelli) - tasty! I don't think there is butter but it's delicious. The vermicelli is so garlicky but light. Tender scallops.🤤
166. Green beans - ok…I've had better
185. Beef stew in hit pot (Ngau lam Bo)- ❤? absolutely delicious. A few bits of melted, almost jello-like beef tendon. Sits on a bed of bok choy. I will return just for this dish.
267. seafood congee - one size, big bowl. gingery, contains squid, shrimp.
262. small rice - heaping bowl

Our group of trio had the 4 person dinner with came with a plate of chicken, beef & veggie, deep fried fish, & sweet & sour pork. A big bowl of soup & rice were also included, but alas, no red bean soup for dessert. Excellent value & good tasting Cantonese style food for less than $70!

They have the best fried rice I've ever had. Their other dishes such as general tao chicken, stuffed tofu or orange beef are also good, but the seafood fried rice is truly the star.

However, they use disposable plastic table cloth, which produces a lot of plastic waste.

Keung Kee is an institution. Decades ago this place was know as the best restaurant in Montreal's Chinatown & imo it still is. I've honestly have never had a bad dish here; taste & flavours have always been on point.

I recommend their signature mushroom rolls, razor clams, clams with vermicelli, eggplant, beef hotplate & stir fried noodles for all kinds.

This is the best, truly authentic Cantonese food experience I have found in Montreal. I had the Beef & Tofu Hot Pot (Ngau Lam Tofu Bo?) & it was perfect, rich sauce, lots of tender nuggets of beef & tofu, & heaps of gai-lan, ginger & onions. The service & atmosphere is exactly the vibe I expected from a traditional Chinese eatery where the food speaks for itself. I will be back again, & again, with friends. I can't wait!

Phenomenal noodles & beef, beef & enoki, & quite good eggplants. The rise is steamed to perfection, nice texture & stickyness, not too sticky not too stiff, not too wet, not too dry. Goldilocks steamed rice 🍚

Really authentic Cantonese style Chinese! A local Chinese who works as a tour guide recommended place to us. Mostly Asian guests in restaurant. We enjoyed food so much we ate dinner here 2 nights in a row. No frills, basic decor, you're here for the great food at reasonable prices. Salt & Pepper crispy pork chop. Sizzling Beef rolled around Enoki Mushroom. Jellyfish as a cold appetizer. Scallops with Choi Sum. Grouper with pork & tofu (fish does have bones) House bone broth was complimentary. You need to go upstairs to reach this restaurant. After 6pm the place was full & people were waiting. We arrived at 530, no wait. Hard to find parking in Chinatown. Our hotel was in Downtown Montreal. We used Uber about $12 CAD one way. Car can't pull up to restaurant (pedestrian walkway). Restaurant is only 2 minutes walk from where Uber dropped us off. Restaurant on right, don't forget it's the one upstairs.

It's definitely an interesting restaurant, the food is good & on par with the speed of service ! The fact that the restaurant is opened late at night is a life saver for anyone craving Chinese after a party ! I gotta say, we had the beef orange & the general Tao & both sauce felt too similar, next time i will take something different in terms of meat ! Their noodles / enoki mushroom rolls were really good too

We ordered a sesame beef plate & it's nothing like a beef plate but more like a fried orange chickens better with barely any beef inside but I feel like it's not their specialty because people had better looking plate than us like vegetables /rice/seafood so just avoid ordering beef.
