Service was friendly & fast. I recommend that you go in the morning, as soon as it opens to secure a spot & to get the best service :) Dishes that I recommend : - Cheeseballs : fan of cheesepulls & mocchi like texture? This is THE appetizer for you. Plus, they add honey butter powder on top, which makes it so addicting! - Brick cheese gold & silver katsu : if you visit Katsuya, you have to take this (it's like their signature dish & why they are so popular!) - Original sweet potato cheese katsu : it was recommended by the owner as this is his favorite dish. I must say, it's mine too now! - Finally, as a udon lover, their udon dishes are so worth it! If I have a udon craving, I could see myself coming back for it.
I've had Katsuya multiple times in Vancouver & I love it so I was really exited to try this one. It was delicious! We had a couple of appetizers (cheese balls, cheese crabmeat croquettes, tartare shrimp, & honey fries) & my favourite was the croquettes! For their main dish I had the hot spicy fish katsu. My 2 favourite flavours & the hot spicy katsu & the sweet chili katsu! The plates are very big & filling. It also comes with miso soup but I didn't find the soup that good to be honest.
The restaurant has a very welcoming atmosphere. We were treated to free miso soup & free whatever that thing with the jalapeno is. The cheese balls have a nice chewy texture to it alongside a sweet kick. The katsu was cooked to perfection. My friend ordered the red carbonara udon as well. It was too spicy for my liking. The rice was fluffy & the coleslaw was delicious.
