The katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining incredibly juicy on the inside. The service was attentive without being overbearing & the atmosphere was cozy enough for a nice date night. I will definitely be returning here soon to try some of the other dishes on the menu as everything looked fantastic.
If you are looking for authentic Japanese tonkatsu in Montreal, Katsuya is one of the few places that actually gets the crust right. It is crispy & fluffy rather than being dense & hard, & most importantly, it isn't greasy at all. My only minor complaint is that the breading tends to fall off the meat quite easily. The pork itself is okay-not dry, but not particularly juicy either.
The service is very friendly, which makes up for the atmosphere. The interior is a bit dark & feels a little run-down, so it's not exactly'cozy,' but for the decent price point, it's worth it. I will definitely be coming back!
Came here for lunch today, & it was pretty delicious! Great crispy texture & juicy with a nice portion. The girl with glasses gave us also an excellent service! I'll be coming back for sure!
Freshly made katsu, perfectly crispy, great portions, what's not to love. Had to rose katsu the sauce was rich & spicy really enjoyed it!
Their fried chicken cutlets are all about thin skin, without that heavy, floury texture, making them incredibly refreshing. The chicken thigh skin is fried until it's paper-thin & crispy, & when you tear it open, the inside is bursting with juicy goodness. Paired with a touch of wasabi, it's simply divine!
The fried pork cutlet is their signature dish. It's ridiculously thick. The breading is incredibly crispy, while the meat inside is as tender & juicy as melting snow. Every bite is a satisfying crunch, & the cheese filling inside is so stretchy & delicious-a must-order!
The atmosphere was really nice. Since it was my first visit, I was a bit confused but the staff were friendly & explained everything well, which I really appreciated. The curry katsu & the japanese katsu were both crispy & delicious & they pair perfectly with the house lemonade. If you're looking for a Japanese style katsu restaurant, I think this place would be my number one. It also seems like the only truly authentic Japanese katsu spot in Montreal.
This is a great spot to visit whenever I'm craving Japanese-style pork cutlets. The outside is perfectly crispy, the meat is thick & juicy, & every bite is really satisfying. They also offer options like cheese katsu & Korean-style pork cutlets with sauce on top, so it's fun to choose based on what you're in the mood for. If you order the Japanese-style katsu, you can even grind your own sesame seeds & mix them into the sauce-just like in Japan. & paired with an Asahi Super Dry, which you can't skip when it comes to Japanese food… isn't that pretty much heaven? ^^
Great food, exactly was expected. I've never been to Japan but the Curry Katsu sauce was better than I imagined. The Takoyakis as an entry are a MUST. Crispy & beautiful presentation. Totally would go back
Katsuya offers a pleasant dining experience with friendly service & generous meal portions. The atmosphere is comfortable, & it's easy to enjoy a meal here without feeling rushed.
The Chicken Katsu with Curry Sauce was very flaky & light, with a satisfying crunch & a big portion. The curry sauce was typical Japanese-style curry. It is solid, though nothing extraordinary.
The Pork & Cheese Katsu with Rosée Sauce was crispy & light as well. The rosée sauce had a salty kick, & the combination with pork & cheese was unique & interesting. Definitely worth trying if you like creative twists.
The salad came with a smoky, light dressing that was surprisingly good. The takoyaki was crunchy, which is different from the usual soft, mushy style. The sweet sauce combined with the crunch felt a bit overwhelming after a while, but it's an interesting variation.
Overall, the katsu is excellent & the generous portions make it a satisfying meal. Highly recommend giving Katsuya a try for delicious katsu with some creative twists.
This is a Korean donkatsu chain restaurant. They offer a wide selection of katsu (pork cutlet) dishes, along with fusion-style combos such as tteokbokki, udon, & cold noodles. Every dish was really good-the coating was very crispy, & the meat was juicy. The rose tteokbokki with katsu was my favorite, & I'll definitely be going back!
