Yum. I am decidedly not a foodie but I absolutely adored Joe Beef on my first visit. I am a steak & potatoes man & have had that at restaurants across Montreal & in other cities, but I must say the 30 oz rib-steak I had here which I devoured was perhaps the best. Better than Gibbys or Moishes, I also loved the accoutrements, the huge piece of meat came with spinach, green salad, horse radish & fries, which were indeed enough for our 3 diners, the other two having split the lobster spaghetti. To top it off the service was perfect & the atmosphere was casual but fun. Now if only I could afford to go here more often, but once in a while does suffice. Again, yum.
Came here with my brother on a long weekend to Montreal. Everything we had was amazing. Excellent service.
Had a great experience with Joe B. Zero complaints. A++
1) The entire waitstaff were all lovely. Service was great! I sat at the oyster bar in a'newer' side of the establishment. Kind of felt like I was in a historical bar with a bunch of old seaside decor. Had to bust out the readers as it's a dark/intimate setting. Homey feel for sure.
2) Each time a course was dropped off, the server explained what they were dropping off in detail. It was a breath of fresh air to have that explanation even though you knew what you ordered. I loved that part!!
Started with the special of the night which was oyster casino . Nice touch - cooked & presented well. Next was the foie gras double. So rich but well worth it. Just don't order any other appetizer, or you'll ruin your main course!
Filet had great flavor with its funghi reduction. I prob would have enjoyed it more had I not stuffed my face. **plated on warm plate to keep the nice mushroom crème sauce to stay nice, warm & silky smooth.
3) The guys behind the oyster bar went out of their way to show me how to open & prepare an oyster! (I ordered 100 oystered to be delivered & said I was trying taking notes)
Third time at Joe Beef over the last few years. Surprisingly the quality has dropped significantly. For a premium price, the food is mostly bland. When the food arrived, the server joked how the fries are the best part & she was right! We ordered the croquettes, scallop, halibut, salad & creme caramels. The croquettes could have used some lemon & a sauce. The halibut was over cooked & under seasoned. The shortbread with the creme caramel was excelled but the actual dessert lacked the creaminess of a creme caramel.
Un incontournable de la scène culinaire Montréalaise moi & ma copine avons été pour notre anniversaire & la soirée était impeccable!
Incredible restaurant. I loved the vibe. Not only is the meat delicious, as the name would indicate, but so is the sea food. It was a great surprise! They have no tasting menu, but will make you discover their menu & best meals of the moment if you ask. We were advised to take a good bottle of red & weren't disappointed at all. I had a great time there & I highly recommend the place.
We sat in front of Talia, the bartender. Great meal & very friendly service. The salad, croquettes, beef, & halibut were excellent. Talia made a fantastic Sazerac as well. Thank you!
My first time here & it was a marvellous experience.
The restaurant is very cozy, we were lucky to be seated across the fireplace. Lights are dim & the ambiance is great.
We ordered the tartare for starter with bread & butter. I really liked how cute the butter was in their tiny packs. Bread was fresh & tartare was just amazing.
For mains we got Steak & Duck Breast. Steak comes with gem potatoes, temperature was perfect & the steak was tender. But my favourite was the duck breast. It comes with foie gras & it was just a spreadable perfection. Duck breast was blessed with red wine jus.
& last but not least we got the chocolate mousse, it was 10/10! I loved the sauce on the side of the dessert so much I wanted to clean the plate with a piece bread.
Overall one of the best meals I've ever had in Canada.
⭐?⭐?⭐?⭐?⭐? An Unforgettable Evening Worth Every Bite
We visited this gem of a restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday, & from the moment we walked in, it felt like we had stepped into a perfectly orchestrated dream. The ambiance struck that rare balance between elegant & inviting - softly lit, warm, & full of quiet, happy energy.
Now, let's talk about the service - hands down, the best I've ever experienced. Every single member of the team seemed to move in perfect harmony, as if they shared one mind with the goal of making our night flawless. Whether it was someone gracefully refilling our water as they passed, or another gently clearing plates with a smile & a kind word, the teamwork was seamless & a joy to watch.
Our main server, Alex, was an absolute star. He took all the pressure off our decision-making & curated a stunning four-course meal that flowed beautifully from one dish to the next - cohesive, balanced, & beyond delicious. The other Alex (yes, two Alexes!) was equally wonderful - attentive, charming, & meticulous, ensuring our table was pristine between courses & our glasses of water never empty.
& the food… oh, the food! Every plate felt like a small celebration in itself. The croquettes were crisp & creamy perfection, the tuna tartare delicate & full of bright flavor, & the lobster spaghetti? A masterpiece - rich, tender, & the kind of dish that makes you close your eyes after the first bite. Every cocktail - including my mocktail - was crafted with care & creativity, each one divine in its own right.
It was the kind of dinner you don't just eat, but feel - wrapped in kindness, thoughtfulness, & genuine hospitality.
Highly, highly recommend this place. Five shining stars & a standing ovation to the entire team. We can't wait to go back & relive the magic.
✨ Standouts: Croquettes, Tuna Tartare, Lobster Spaghetti, & the entire staff's incredible energy.
We were 2 midweek for an early dinner. Reservations still recommended. Trio of oysters starter were good but PEI Oysters were larger & tastier. My main was hanger steak. A little chewy but wonderful flavour & red wine reduction sauce. Other main was filet mignon - very tender with umami-infused sauce. Excellent. Mushroom side dish a great addition. Main server was friendly & knowledgeable-'sous' servers all attentive too. Wine order was a little slow coming but good choices. Cheese course with whole walnuts in the shell was an amusing DIY finale. Highly recommended.
I have seen this restaurant in various food network shows over the years. It was a fantastic night. The service was incredible & will sit in my memory as one of my top eating experiences for a long time. The two of us had the croquettes, duck, hanger steak, side vegetables, & 24 layer cake for dessert. Unforgettable from beginning to end.
Great food! Their specials are always so delicious & original, we had a cabage dish absolutely amazing. The oysters are really good & big. Nice selection of wine & a cozy ambiance.
A cozy spot in Montreal. The food is amazing service was excellent. I wish I had ordered the fois gras I saw it on someone's table.
After a lifetime of wanting to try this restaurant, it did not disappoint. We came in open to trying everything, & our amazing waitress, Thalia, took the wheel. She selected every course to truly represent the restaurant, its vibe, & the depth of the cuisine - & she nailed it. I highly recommend dining here, requesting to sit in her section, & trusting her recommendations. Phenomenal experience. Thank you, Thalia!
Superb experience. Service was impeccable. We felt very special. Food was some of the best I ever had.
This place helped me realise what the hype about French cuisine is all about! The staff were helpful, knowledgeable, & kind with everything from explaining the menu to helping with wine pairings. Incredible experience.
Amazing service - we made a mistake when making our reservation & placed a reservation for the wrong day, totally our fault however they still managed to squeeze us in at the bar.
The service was exceptional, very friendly & attentive. Excellent work translating lions mane mushrooms from french as well, very impressive. We had the hanger steak for 2 which was delicious.
I would highly recommend this restaurant if you're in Montreal.
