The sashimi is impeccable. Really huge pieces & so fresh. I regret not having tried the sake this time around. There are so many sake choices!
Food was ok. Portion is small & nothing was outstanding. For the milk bread, the proportion between the puree & bread was really off. So we had a lot of leftover puree. Sashimi was also just ok.
I forgot about the 2 hours dining policy written on the reservation page & the waitress didn't mention it when we arrive despite that we told her it was our first time here. When we said we wanted desserts, she said she already let us overstayed so she would need to check. Although at the end, she said we can stay another 15 mins, our mood was ruined. If it's an important meeting, I don't suggest to come :(
Replied to owner: as we booked the restaurant a week in advance, & 2 hours eating time is NOT a common practice in Montreal, I believe a restaurant should inform the guests especially when we we said it's our first time visiting. Throughout our dining time, the 2 hours time frame was not mentioned until we asked for desserts. For a $100+ per person restaurant, I don't think the service met the standard nor the food.
This gem of a place blew me away. It is a MUST visit if you are in Montreal. Right when I walked in, the decor hit me with a chill retro vibe along with the music being played. The tapas style eats will teleport you to Japan. The tuna sashimi, the marinated duck, are both a must.
It's a very cute restaurant with tasty food. My issue was that it took 2 hours to get through 4 dishes. If they were hot fired dishes maybe that would be ok, but 2 sashimi courses & a cold salad should not take that long to serve. If you like leisurely dining & aren't super hungry maybe this is a good place for you, but we were not satisfied. Especially after spending over $300 for 4 courses & a bottle of wine. The silver lining was our server. She was wonderful.
This was our first trip to Montreal & this was our favorite restaurant on the trip. We had the tasting menu & the food was great all around. The sashimi with the lemony sauce & the duck breast were my favorites. We also had some gin cocktails that were really good.
The atmosphere is cool & we were able to see some of the cooking & preparation of sashimi from our place at the bar.
Overall we really enjoyed it & would definitely recommend!
The sashimi was a mix of hits & misses, the scallops were especially fresh & delicious, but the salmon was not fresh at all. The Agedashi Tofu was excellent, & the duck dish was also quite good. The environment is fair; a bit old & not particularly Japanese in style, but still acceptable. However, the biggest downside was the price, portions were quite small, making it feel overpriced for what we received.
Fantastic food. Loved everything we ordered. Must get duck. The rice that comes with sashimi was sooooo good. Need reservation. It gets busy.
The food at Fleurs & Cadeaux was awesome :) Would definitely recommend if you are craving some good food in the Montreal, QC area.
The Magret de Carnard Au Miso Blanc (Duck Breast) was awesome. The duck was tender, savoury & delicious. Would definitely recommend if you are craving some good duck.
The F&C Chirashi Sushi was awesome. The variety of sashimi was fresh & delicious. The rice was perfectly cooked & seasoned. Would definitely recommend if are you craving a good variety of sashimi & rice.
The Takaki D'Albacore (Tuna Sashimi) was fresh & delicious.
The Poulet Nanban (Sweet & Sour Fried Chicken) was good. The fried chicken was tender, crispy & flavourful. Would definitely recommend if you are craving some good sweet & sour fried chicken.
The Tantan Udon was okay. The udon was perfectly cooked with great texture. The spicy ground pork was delicious. The sesame based sauce was okay.
The Brownie, Caramel Sale Au Miso Rouge (Brownie with Miso Salted Caramel) was good. The brownie was delicious with chocolatey goodness. The miso salted caramel was an interesting flavour that somehow worked with the brownie.
The Annin Dofu was awesome. This cream based dessert with caramelized apples (or was it pear?) & shikwasa ice cream was light, not too sweet, citrusy, & heavenly. Wish there was more of the shikwasa ice cream which provided that really good citrus flavour. Would definitely recommend the Annin Dofu dessert to wrap up the dinner :)
I would go back for the sashimi, extremely fresh & carefully cut. I found the fried chicken too salty. I would recommend to sit in front of the chef, it was captivating work.
This restaurant is absolutely amazing. The atmosphere is so cozy & what can i say about the food!! My cousins & i had a full platter of sashimis & the fish was super fresh & the perfect cut. We had Albacore tataki, korean fried chicken, Pork Udon, Carrot salad, breaded Tofu in miso broth, Panacotta & a Brownie. Everything was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant. Everything is fresh & the sauces that accompany the fish/ tataki/ chicken are so tasty!
Amazing food, sake & vibes - sat at bar counter as party of 2 & thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience. Fresh sashimi, great spicy tan tan noodles, & the fried chicken nanban was spectacular would absolutely come back!
The sashimi was good. Noodles decent. The cocktails were a 10 out of 10! The chirashi sushi bowl at $42 was decent. There was a bone in the toro though. Very chill atmosphere with great service. It was too cold though! Even the girl besides me stayed with her winter jacket.
Unique dining experience with delicious food & kind employees. Don't miss the onsen tamago & légume ohitashi. Update: also, don't miss the duck & sashimi. It's all so good. Fresh fish, amazing flavors.
We love love love F & C!! Such a gem 💎 Fantastic service, a really cozy/chic vibe, super fresh sashimi & great sake list. I highly recommend. Delicious udon noodles you have to get for the table.
Came here for a date night while we were in Montreal. My partner chose it based on the high google reviews. I liked that the interior was so unique, & we were seated very quickly. Our server came to take our drink & food order in a decent amount of time, & our first two dishes (legume ohitashi & onsen tamago) came out very fast. & then we sat there for a good 30 minutes with no food in front of us & our server not checking in. I started to get confused & annoyed when the table beside us received their uni cream & shrimp chips 5 minutes after they had ordered, while we were still waiting for ours. We had to flag our server down to ask what was happening, & my partner reminded her of the dishes we had ordered. She scrambled to find her words for a bit & then explained that because we had ordered the sashimi platter with the temaki add on, our other dishes would be served after the platter as was their "policy" (this is blatantly untrue as the table beside us had ordered the sashimi platter with the temaki add on as well & their dishes came in the order they placed them). I wouldn't have minded if she had told us she forgot some of the dishes we had ordered instead of lying. I would've given the atmosphere a higher score, but there was a group of drunk people who came in & sat behind us who did not control their volume (yelling extremely loudly at each other) & weren't asked to, despite it interrupting other's conversations & detracting from the experiences of the tables around them. The food was tasty & we had a few stand out dishes (the uni cream shrimp chips & the aged white miso duck were excellent), & the pricing was fair. Overall the experience could've been better, but this is a decent place to get Japanese food in Montreal.
Great service but it didn't make up for our disappointment with the food. We ordered the tasting menu & got a tomato & greens salad which was ok, nothing special. The duck was over cooked & not salty at all. But to make up for the unseasoned duck, the next dish was the cold soba noodles in the saltiest sauce. There wasn't much else in that dish you could enjoy anyways, the soba texture was off & the toppings didn't add anything in terms of flavor or texture. Finally we got the sashimi, which was ok. I've had fresher & better texture sashimi elsewhere. The rice at the bottom of the sashimi bowl was way over seasoned with vinegar & it was also overcooked. It felt like a gimmick to me. You are seated at the bar where you can see the chefs preparing the dishes meticulously & using garnish tweezers which looks fancy but unfortunately, good presentation can't make something taste better. Hope you will improve your menu & adjust the seasoning level on the dishes.
Great dining experience. We were craving fresh fish & got the sashimi platter with rice & nori to roll yourself. The fish was incredible! We also got soft tofu with red miso & wasabi. INCREDIBLE! Could have used with more rice & more nori in proportion with the amount of fish on the platter but i guess it depends on preferences & how hungry you are.
The chirashi bowl was just exceptional!! Love the red wine vinegar touch for the sushi rice & the tartare place just underneath the fresh sashimi cuts!
