The food is pricey but top quality-portions aren't huge, so maybe eat beforehand. Great wine selection & options for non alcoholic drinks as well. I highly recommend the duck. It was probably the best I've ever eaten in Montreal to be honest. All the sushi was extremely fresh. Overall, a fantastic experience for date night! The Ramen looked delicious & I will definitely be going back to try it!! 4 stars only because after $175 we were still hungry …!!!
Cool place, good music, great vibes. Cocktails are great, food is great. Get the miso cured duck. Sushi was high quality. Would come again for sure
This place is such a GEM! We have been here 2x this month & all I can say is that both times we've left so deeply inspired by the dishes! Everything we had was just so thought out & composed that each plate feels like a symphony ❤️ If you order the duck, please order the tataki as well, these two are soulmates. Each one is amazing but together?✨MAGIC✨ A special shout out to out to our server because he made us feel so welcome. He was helpful & so patient with us, truly made the visit memorable Order anything there! We've tried a majority of the dishes & not a single one of them disappointed. You know it's good when you're already planning your next visit over dessert... which was exactly what we were doing while savouring the Miso Caramel Brownie
absolutely loved this place! Food, ambience & staff are amazing. Don't miss the miso duck or tataki albacore or the brownie for dessert!! This could be my new regular place in Montreal!!
Unique dining experience with delicious food & kind employees. Don't miss the onsen tamago & légume ohitashi. Update: also, don't miss the duck & sashimi. It's all so good. Fresh fish, amazing flavors.
This was my third visit to Fleurs & Cadeaux, & once again, it did not disappoint. We celebrated a friend's birthday with a group of five, & everything-from the food to the service & ambiance-was perfect. We shared a variety of dishes, & everything was delicious. The standouts for us were the Chirashi sushi, Nanban fried chicken, & the white miso aged duck, which were all exceptional. A must visit !
This izakaya/speakeasy is easily my new fav place. Didn't have reservation so I joined the waitlist online. Arrived before I got a confirmation because we were in the area but got seated right away. 4-5 dishes order is recommended to share for 2 people. We had the chicken nanban, tuna tataki, duck, & tantan udon. The dishes are all delicious. Udon is prob my least fav as it's very heavy & I prefer it cooked a little bit more but it's something good to fill your stomach in the end as the dishes are not big portion. Overall a very great experience with friendly staff. Looking forward to coming back when we visit Montreal again.
August 2024: 4 stars. Music was more elevator lounge music, not great like last time. Steak dish & agadeshi tofu (very mushroom-ey) dish were good. Udon with minced pork was delicious. Rice bowl was a bit uninspired. brownie was overly buttery & salty. Great presentation for all dishes. Service was excellent as usual though. Yu mi & the sour cocktail were alright. February 2024: 5 stars. Great music, nice atmosphere. Pleasant, attentive service. Same menu as downstairs as far as I noticed, just different vibe (oldies music upstairs, newer stuff downstairs). Duck was delicious. Pickled & grilled vegetable dishes were nicely presented but small portion. Fried chicken was nice & crispy. Really enjoyed my cocktail that had Mezcal in it, as well as the sake recommendation. The dessert was disappointing though. The thin sheet cake was tasteless & had a grainy texture. The haskap cream on top was nice though.
One of my favorite restaurants in Montréal. Very creative menu with surprising & memorable tastes, namely the duck & the fried chicken. Got the tasting menu once & loved it! Especially love the atmosphere (casual, lowkey, chic & cool).
This is a place that's easy to pass by unless you know it's a restaurant. It has an old store front, but is bustling inside with lively atmosphere. There is a "tasting menu", but it really isn't just giving the server a budget (minimum $70 per person) & letting them choose dishes for you. If you're not familiar with Japanese food, this might be the way to go, otherwise it's pretty easy to figure out what you might want to eat. Most of the dishes are quite small, & can be shared by two people. We ordered 9 for 2 adults & 2 kids under 10 & it was just enough. The food was all well-prepared & presented & tasty. My favourite dish was the duck. It was tender & had a nice char. It's also nice to see fresh wasabi at a restaurant instead of horseradish. The servers were very friendly & described each dish, providing recommendations when necessary. If you're expecting to be full, come prepared to spend, but if you want a fun spot with good food & drinks, check this place out. Also, there is a speakeasy-style bar (sans Soleil) attached if you want to continue the evening without having to go far.
I almost don't want to post this review because I don't want too many folks knowing how truly incredible this gem is. TL;DR: Order sake or Champagne & ask for help if you need it. Sea Urchin Mousse, Miso-Aged Duck, Udon Noodles, save room for dessert. Nightcaps at the bar downstairs if it's not too busy. Two of us, no reservation, Monday night. Seated quickly at the bar & then had to take a good 10 minutes to study the beverage menu. The wines are thoughtfully curated with lots of natural, biodynamic & organic selections. Sake & soju selection is thorough & includes a primer of the styles you might not be familiar with. We selected a bottle of Champagne that would carry us through the flavors of dinner & settled on the mousse à l'oursin, légume ohitashi, canard veilli, & the tantan udon. The sea urchin mousse with shrimp chips arrived first & were perfectly light & crispy with much more subtlety of flavor than I usually expect from uni. The vegetables were Swiss chard & cherry tomatoes in a savory broth, cut into perfectly bite sized pieces. Again, strong flavors perfectly tamed into working brilliantly with each other. When the duck arrived I stared at it for a good 30 seconds before I said anything & it's not an exaggeration when I say the taste is nothing short of revelatory. The charred fat cap melted in the same way the gorgeously thin slices of breast did for a bite that was a legitimate journey through fat, the savory miso, & the smallest bitterness of char. I want duck to be this perfect all of the time. It was halfway through the duck when I realized we still ordered noodles & they arrived drizzled with chili crisp. By far the richest of what we ordered, the small bits of nori over top as well as the remnants of our earlier dishes cut the weight of the sauce. Thankfully there were only two options for dessert & we ordered the brownie with a red miso caramel. Beautifully executed it was the perfect sweet bite to finish before we headed downstairs for a nightcap at the very sexy Sans Soleil. I was pretty high on vibes & champagne so details are light at this point but my cocktail was delicious & the orange wine my date had was tasty. All in all one of my top 5 meals ever & I can't wait to come back. No notes.
Came here for a date night while we were in Montreal. My partner chose it based on the high google reviews. I liked that the interior was so unique, & we were seated very quickly. Our server came to take our drink & food order in a decent amount of time, & our first two dishes (legume ohitashi & onsen tamago) came out very fast. & then we sat there for a good 30 minutes with no food in front of us & our server not checking in. I started to get confused & annoyed when the table beside us received their uni cream & shrimp chips 5 minutes after they had ordered, while we were still waiting for ours. We had to flag our server down to ask what was happening, & my partner reminded her of the dishes we had ordered. She scrambled to find her words for a bit & then explained that because we had ordered the sashimi platter with the temaki add on, our other dishes would be served after the platter as was their "policy" (this is blatantly untrue as the table beside us had ordered the sashimi platter with the temaki add on as well & their dishes came in the order they placed them). I wouldn't have minded if she had told us she forgot some of the dishes we had ordered instead of lying. I would've given the atmosphere a higher score, but there was a group of drunk people who came in & sat behind us who did not control their volume (yelling extremely loudly at each other) & weren't asked to, despite it interrupting other's conversations & detracting from the experiences of the tables around them. The food was tasty & we had a few stand out dishes (the uni cream shrimp chips & the aged white miso duck were excellent), & the pricing was fair. Overall the experience could've been better, but this is a decent place to get Japanese food in Montreal.
Great service but it didn't make up for our disappointment with the food. We ordered the tasting menu & got a tomato & greens salad which was ok, nothing special. The duck was over cooked & not salty at all. But to make up for the unseasoned duck, the next dish was the cold soba noodles in the saltiest sauce. There wasn't much else in that dish you could enjoy anyways, the soba texture was off & the toppings didn't add anything in terms of flavor or texture. Finally we got the sashimi, which was ok. I've had fresher & better texture sashimi elsewhere. The rice at the bottom of the sashimi bowl was way over seasoned with vinegar & it was also overcooked. It felt like a gimmick to me. You are seated at the bar where you can see the chefs preparing the dishes meticulously & using garnish tweezers which looks fancy but unfortunately, good presentation can't make something taste better. Hope you will improve your menu & adjust the seasoning level on the dishes.
Wonderful weeknight experience!! Great service, music & atmosphere. We came as two for a weeknight dinner & we loved it. We were recommended the duck, the chirashi sushi, the albacore tuna tataki & the grilled vegetable root salad & they were all absolutely fantastic. Our standout goes out to the duck which was really incredible. Big thank you to all the team & definitely coming back!!
Reallly unique flavours. Super moist & juicy duck. Would also recommend the uni cream chips
I've been eager to try Fleurs & Cadeaux for some time, & it definitely lived up to my expectations. We began with the onsen egg, followed by the Nanban chicken with squid ink sauce, the grilled miso aged duck & the chirashi bowl. We finished with the matcha crème caramel. Every dish was delicious, with the chicken being our favorite (best fried chicken I had in my life!!).
Love this place. The cocktails are always very delicious (inspired Japanese flavors). & there aged duck is the number one on my list... I will always come back for this plate. Very nice place to date. I highly recommended to sit in front the grill. You could see how they cook all the kushiyaki.
My friends & I managed to reserve a table for five people to celebrate one of their birthday! Very accessible from the metro, short walk which was perfect because it was windy that day! The staff were helpful & polite, not always easy to flag down but very helpful. The food was for the most part incredible! I only ordered the vegetarian dishes, a can of hibiscus juice made in Montreal, & a slice of Yuzu lemon pie:) It was about 54$ total which is pricey considering the portions. I was however very full (i dont eat much anyway). My other four friends all ordered several dishes & shared them, overall about 45-65$ ranging as some did get desserts & drinks. It is recommended to buy several plates & to share & they did like it! Though the portions are very small to share. The food is however amazing, the vegetarian foods i ordered were perfect (soup is a little salty). The tofu dish with rice was truly splendid & very filling, i would recommend that. My friends liked the duck & overall liked the dishes & did not have much else to add! Nice atmosphere & decor, welcoming & you can take some nice pictures!
Went twice & always had such a feast ! Found my favorite duck & udon :) Shirashii bowl is on point A perfect diner place
