The best bagel I've had in my life! There was a short line but it moved fairly quickly. Best way to enjoy is to pick them up & head to a nearby park to savour it! The sesame bagel & garlic bagel were the highlight. So fresh & worth the visit! Will definitely be back when I visit Montreal again!

I'm usually more of an all-dressed bagel enthusiast, but the sesame bagel really has the upper edge here. The all-dressed bagel is fairly strong in garlic & cumin, so I wouldn't suggest having it with a lighter topping like I did (salmon & cream cheese), but leave that to the sesame bagel instead.
I made the mistake of coming here straight after a run (with only my Revolut on my phone) - they don't accept Mastercard so I had to come back a second time.
Definitely worth trying while in Montreal!

The place is a bakery specialized in bagels. Compared with the ones in New York, these are a bit thinner than that & the hole is larger. We have the one with garlic & classic with sesame. It was nice, nothing wrong on that, proce around $2 each. It was good.

However, they accept only cash or just Canadian cards. No sign of this at the entrance.

The lady who served us today was quite unpleasant: no smile, no customer service, didn't say thank you, seems like that we were disturbing her. I don't know, maybe she had a bad day, but from an iconic place that is marked a'must visit' in Montreal, i'm expecting something.

After hearing countless glowing recommendations-hundreds, perhaps thousands-I finally made my way to one of Montreal's most beloved bagel institutions, tucked away in a modest, no-frills corner of the city. From the moment you approach, the warm, sweet scent of freshly baked dough draws you in like a beacon. This isn't your average bakery-it's a tiny, bustling hub of bagel-making magic, with trays of golden rings stacked high & ovens firing in full rhythm.

We picked up a variety of bagels: everything, garlic, onion, & the intriguingly named'Bozo'-each one a unique expression of this iconic Montreal staple. There's no indoor seating, so we took our warm paper bag, along with tubs of cream cheese & jam, & enjoyed it from the comfort of our car parked just outside. Honestly? It only added to the charm.

Now, let's talk about those bagels. They were soft, chewy, & still warm to the touch-the texture right where you want it: dense without being heavy, with just the right bite. The garlic bagel quickly emerged as my personal favorite, unapologetically bold & aromatic. Yes, it left me with a garlic-forward breath, but let me be clear-it was absolutely worth it. The everything bagel offered a perfectly balanced medley of seeds & seasoning, while the onion had a subtle sweetness & deep flavor that grew with each bite. The Bozo was a bit of a wildcard-mysterious & slightly sweet, possibly cinnamon-spiced-surprisingly delightful.

There's something wonderfully nostalgic about standing in line with locals & tourists alike, all eagerly waiting for that fresh dozen, watching the bakers work in full view. It's not polished or fancy, but that's exactly the point. This place doesn't need bells & whistles. It's pure, authentic, bagel perfection.

Final word: If you're in Montreal-whether it's your first visit or your fiftieth-do not leave without making a stop here. Yes, there's a line. No, there's no seating. But take it from me: one bite, & you'll understand why people keep coming back for more. It's the kind of experience that reminds you how simple food, made with care & tradition, can be absolutely unforgettable.

Definitely the best bagels I have tried, so fresh & warm, straight form the oven. I would recommend sesame one. I had as well a garlic bagel, but it was a bit too much garlic. Bring cash, they accept debit only from 10$

I stopped in as my travel companion wanted to bring bagels home from our visit to Montreal. It was busy on a beautiful Sunday morning, & there was a small lineup going up the ramp to the front door. A five (or so) minute wait later, we got to the front of the line to place our orders. I chose a dozen all-dressed (everything) & a dozen garlic. They were quickly bagged up & we were on our way. The garlic is very strong (their description says pungent, & they're not wrong) on the garlic bagels & it will linger with you for hours. If you love garlic, these are for you. Personally, next time I would go with the onion bagels instead. I love sesame, my family does not like the overwhelming amount of sesame seeds on the sesame bagels. Onion would be my compromise as there's a mixture of onion & sesame. The all-dressed bagels are well balanced, having a mix of sesame seeds, poppy seeds, caraway seeds, onion, garlic & a bit of salt. The best of, ahem, everything.... These were a home run in my house. The bagels have a dense texture & a satisfying chew to them, they're unique to the area & definitely worth a try, especially if you've only ever experienced more'bready', bun-like bagels available across the country.

Quick & easy! The garlic bagel had a nice crunch, it was flavourful & very tasty. But it's a bagel, what more can i say? Unfortunately it did not make me cream. The only thing creaming here was the cream cheese they provided :) I would definitely go again & try the other bagels!

We had sesame garlic bagel & whole wheat bagel with cream cheese It was very delicious It's amazing to see how they do the dough & the way they cook it Also it's really cool to smell the bagel being baked & have to taste some pieces to decide which one to get This place is a victim of its success hence why is always crowded so come early to wait on the line !

Onion & garlic were so burnt that it tasted bitter. Also, I couldn't taste anything in the bagel itself. I was a little disappointed because the place I expected was different from what I thought.

I'm basing myself on the only 2 bagels we tried. The everything bagel & the garlic one. Honestly they were slightly hard & stale. I have the feeling they're not the ones they sell the most so not the freshest. The everything bagel tasted mainly of fennel which I hate & the other tasted like bitter burned garlic. Im sure the sesame bagel is amazing but for now St-Viateur is still my fave.
