Overhyped with some pretty bad customer service. They don't take credit card, won't take CAD $20 bills & were very pushy. Said they had everything & it was all fresh but then when we tried to order different flavors we're told they didn't have any. Why even bother lying? The sesame bagel was way too sweet - think Chinese sesame bun sweet.
At least there was no line at 7:30am.
Now I clearly understand why everyone recommends this place when it comes to bagels in Montréal. As soon as you walk in, you're greeted by the smell of fresh bagels. I tried the sesame & all-dressed bagels, & both were incredible. The outside is slightly crispy, while the inside is soft with a lightly sweet flavour. Eating them fresh out of the oven is a completely different experience. The variety is really impressive from classic sesame, poppy seed, garlic, &'everything' bagels to sweet options, there are plenty of choices.
I've been coming to Fairmount since I moved to the Plateau about twelve years ago, & it never gets old. Stopped in a few days ago on a Sunday morning & the wood-fired oven was going full tilt, filling the whole sidewalk with that smell before I even pushed open the door. Grabbed a dozen sesame bagels fresh off the line & they were still warm by the time I walked home. There's nowhere else in the city that comes close, & I say that as someone who has tried them all.
Don't go here for just a one off bagel. Unless it's sesame seed. There's a cafe across the street that makes sandwiches with the bagels. So good.
Best bagels in town! You have to try these! This place is open 24/7 36t days a year.
You ll find many flavours, my favourite is sesame! They arw always fresh!!!
Bagels are must try. Their sesame bagel is the most popular & definitely lived up to the hype. We picked up the Olive with Sundried Tomato spread & the Aubergine caviar spread & I am glad we bought them they are soooooo good.
We got the bozo (sesame/poppy larger style bagel). The bagel is sweeter than expected as I read they dip the bagels in honey water before baking in their 100yr old oven. We also got a regular size (mini-ish) chocolate chip bagel. They had lots of varieties, the bagels were fresh, chewy. They offer many tubs of cream cheese & lox but you add this yourself. Worth a try if you are in the area but I wouldn't go out of my way for them.
Cute well known shop serving great bagels. Got a sesame bagel with the shmear on top. Bagel had a nice chew & a hint of sweetness.
⭐ 5/5 - A Classic Montreal Experience!
Went to Fairmount Bagel & loved every bit of the experience! There was a line, which is always a good sign 😄. I went for the standard - half a dozen sesame bagels - & it was perfect for my first visit.
The staff is super nice & friendly, & I ate two bagels while walking - they were the warmth I needed on the spot. Next time, I'll go a little crazy with my order, but this was exactly what I wanted for a first taste. Highly recommend!
I didn't know bagels tasted this good without cream cheese. I tried the sesame bagel which was fresh & warm.
The cheese bagel was sooooo good that I instantly went back & grabbed half a dozen of sesame bagels.
There was a long line up when I was there during lunch time on a Sunday but it was moving at a pretty decent pace. There are only a few options to choose from. The smoked salmon bagel had a generous amount of cream cheese & the bagel had a chewy texture. The sesame bagel with cream cheese was abit too salty. Overall it was nice but nothing memorable or fantastic. They only accept cash or debit.
The greatest bagels of all time! Started with the sesame bagel with cream cheese. Something so simple done exceptionally well!
My go-to place for Montreal-style bagels. Highly recommend the sesame bagels which are always the freshest. Note that you either need cash or if your purchase is over $10 then you can use a Canadian debit card (no credit cards, no international cards)
The best bagel I've had in my life! There was a short line but it moved fairly quickly. Best way to enjoy is to pick them up & head to a nearby park to savour it! The sesame bagel & garlic bagel were the highlight. So fresh & worth the visit! Will definitely be back when I visit Montreal again!
Le bagel au sesame était ok mais nous avons pris en plus un bagel sucré & voilà la taille. Est ce normal ou bien c'est spécialement pour les touristes ? Sans intérêt & très décevant…
I'm usually more of an all-dressed bagel enthusiast, but the sesame bagel really has the upper edge here. The all-dressed bagel is fairly strong in garlic & cumin, so I wouldn't suggest having it with a lighter topping like I did (salmon & cream cheese), but leave that to the sesame bagel instead.
I made the mistake of coming here straight after a run (with only my Revolut on my phone) - they don't accept Mastercard so I had to come back a second time.
Definitely worth trying while in Montreal!
