An iconic Montreal eatery, & deservedly so. Among the best places in the city to get a smoked meat sandwich & other deli fare, as well as a whole lot more. As a former Montrealer who goes on endlessly about how much better the smoked meat is in this city, it's always a pleasure to visit a restaurant that is guaranteed to renew my faith & help me prove my case to someone who's only ever known the stuff they serve elsewhere. Dunn's did this for me last weekend. Twice! We visited on Saturday for lunch, had a great experience, then we went back for more just before midnight. In a city full of great dining options, we felt it was worth two visits in one day. The lunchtime server was fast & attentive, & the nighttime server was slower & a bit elusive, but the difference seemed to come down to experience. They were both friendly, bilingual, & made us feel welcome. It was just as busy at noon as it was at midnight. For lunch, I had the smoked meat sandwich (medium cut). Simple, but phenomenal. Stacked. Tender. Juicy. Flavourful. It practically melts in your mouth. Eating it literally made me close my eyes, savour the moment & smile. Even three days later, my mouth waters at the thought of it. People will always have opinions on which restaurant has the best smoked meat in Montreal. Even while sitting in Dunn's, I overheard some guys having that discussion & bringing up the other big names in the local smoked meat business. My opinion is that when a place is ranked among the best smoked meat joints in the city, you can't go wrong. You're going to get a delicious sandwich. Dunn's is one of the best & they proved it to me. Again. This place is almost exactly the same as it was when I ate here back in the 80s & 90s. No longer open 24/7, but still open until 5 a.m. Aside from the hours of operation & maybe a few additions to the menu, it seems little has changed over the decades. For that, I am glad. The ambiance is cozy. Welcoming. Warm. Smells great. Sounds good. Feels like what a downtown Montreal deli/restaurant should feel like. The kind of place where you're happy to go no matter who you are, what you do, what time of day it is, or what day of the week it is. The place is timeless & for everyone. I saw people of all ages & backgrounds, & heard that charming blend of English & French that is so very Montréal. Everyone appeared content. There were good vibes, even for those wearing Canadiens jerseys & Capitals jerseys in the same booth. For the late night snack, it was an all-dressed pizza. Again, simple & just the basics, but done right! & delicious. It reminded me of why Montreal pizza is better, too, right along with its bagels & poutine. Incidentally, we had poutine, too, & it was a winner. Classic. The gravy was spot on. The curds melted perfectly, the cheese stretched & squeaked, & the tasty fries held it all together just right. If you know, you know. Smoked meat. Check. All Dressed pizza. Check. Poutine. Check. This is where to eat in Montreal when you want to keep it simple but great.

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Dunn's in Montreal, & it was a fantastic experience! The smoked meat sandwich was perfectly seasoned & piled high, just as I had hoped. The service was quick & friendly, making me feel right at home. The cozy atmosphere added to the charm, & I appreciated the attention to detail in both the food & the overall experience. If you're in Montreal & craving an authentic smoked meat sandwich, Dunn's is the place to go. Highly recommend!
Dunn's is a fantastic & legendary place to get your Montreal Smoked Meat sandwiches. The place is old & comfortable. The service here is great. We came in for lunch as the restaurant was opening & within 10 minutes it was completely full. Its so great to see. The food was great. The sandwiches were great & so was the poutine.. heavy.. but good. The item which I enjoyed the most was definitely the Latkes. Just fantastic. Wonderful place.
Always love coming to Dunn's. Poutine never disappoints & I love getting the latkes. Service is always great. Our waitress (forgot her name unfortunately) was very pleasant & always checked to make sure we were good. Atmosphere is always enjoyable. Not too busy & the overall restaurant just feels very nostalgic. Always a must visit whenever i'm in Montreal.
The mister had poutine (excellent) I had a wonderful salad & matzo ball soup. Also had a special bloody Mary. Everything was great, highly recommend Dunns!

En date du 16 Novembre moi & mon épouse avons été mangé chez Dunnn s j'ai commende un petit combo médium Gras, j'ai reçu un sandwich de viande fumée presque maigre & la viande très dur, mon épouse a commende une assiette de viande fumée, reçu viande fumée tranché très épais & viande dure , nous avons parlé a la serveuse qui nous a confirmé qu'aujourd'hui cela était la seule viande don't le resto avais,WOW j'étais un client régulier, maintenant je me pose la question Me. le propriétaire régler le problème, vous allez perdre des clients Dunn's a une bonne renommée Le resto Dunn's de Green field park
Dunn's Famous poutine was delicious! Can taste their smoked meat, which was very good. The fries were a bit crispy even down to the bottom of the bowl. Curds were mostly melted so no squeaking, but I prefer melted. Chill place with attentive servers.
I was in Montreal for work last winter & I found myself pulling a late night & needing a nourishing dinner after 10pm. Upon seeing that Dunn's was still open, I decided to take advantage of the opportunity to try a different smoked meat joint, & I was very much satisfied! I got the smoked meat sandwich combo with fries & coleslaw & it was delicious. Savory, filling, & reasonably priced. While I'd say my favorite smoked meat sandwich in Montreal is still Schwartz's, I would gladly return to Dunn's too.

I hate to leave anything less than a stellar review for a legacy institution like Dunn's...but it was okay. Don't think I'd recommend the smoked meet egg rolls which were more like pizza pockets. The poutine was pretty good but think for the next try I'd keep it traditional. Quite a few interesting poutine varieties. I'd certainly give it another try with different choices for the next visit.
We stumbled upon this landmark restaurant just walking around lost from all the construction in the city. The restaurant was busy, but we didn't wait to be seated at the bar. The sandwiches are gigantic piled high with smoked meat. Even the kids meals are giant portions! The servers were great & attentive, & the price is reasonable given the amount of food served. If you didn't make it to Swartz's, try Dunn's instead. In the heart of downtown & great ambiance!
We had a fantastic lunch here at Dunn's! We ordered the large combo & upgraded the side to onion rings which were really yummy! The smoked meat is divine, so were all the other dishes we ordered (mozzarella sticks & chicken salad). Highly recommend coming here!

This place has it all. You can just feel the Vibe before you walk in the door. While the food & service are simply fantastic. Folks around me were raving about the pizza here. Many were ordering it. I of course ordered the smoked meat sandwich. Next time I'll try the pizza. My Smoked Meat sandwich was absolutely delicious. & the place itself was just oozing with atmosphere. Not a big place but definitely a must go & try if you have not already. Thank you so much. My first visit to Montreal & Dunns will not be my last.

First stop on our recent trip to Montreal. Smoked meat sandwich was spot on & dunns famous poutine lives up to the hype. My poutine-lovin' husband was very happy. Also great music & chill vibe. Friendly servers.
J'ai pas beaucoup aimer mon expérience au dunn's famous l'ambiance n'était pas au rendez vous & les serveur était très silencieux pas beaucoup bavard j'aurais aimer qu'il prenne un peut plus le temps pour me proposer un plat mais ce n'ai pas si grave je comprend tout ta fait qu'il on d'autre client à s'occuper. Mes la nourriture était bonne un bon smoke meat avec beaucoup de viande
I recently dined at Dunn's Famous & had a fantastic experience. Our server was exceptional, providing attentive & friendly service throughout our meal. I was pleasantly surprised by the pizza, which was quite good considering this is primarily a smoked meat restaurant. However, the highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the smoked meat sandwich. It was incredibly delicious, with tender, flavorful meat that left me wanting more. Overall, Dunn's Famous exceeded my expectations, & I can't wait to return!
