Dunn's Famous is known for smoked meat sandwiches. On rue Metcalfe just off rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest, this restaurant is open late & offers relatively large portions. Good for takeout. This is ideal for people who come to Montréal for partying, but ordinary people can still enjoy high quality food. C'est delicieux!
This was my third visit to Dunn's in as many visits to Montreal over the years & they NEVER fail to impress me!!! & this time, I came with a large group (12 of us) & they didn't only accommodate us, but the waiter was fantastic, the food was amazing, & the atmosphere was perfect! WE. LOVE. DUNN'S!!!! Thank you again!!!!

There is a waiter at this location that truly makes the service wonderful, his name is Steve, find Steve! Amazing with kids, knows his menu inside & out, knows his town, attractions & is truly the first resemblance I've seen to top notch customer service in years!
Food, at a smoke house I went with the Reuben, it's loaded with smoked meats on rye bread with the fixings, simple but exactly what you expected & fills my bottomless pit just as expected.
I partnered the Reuben with the Dunns poutine & a beer.
Dessert,
The in house strawberry cheese cake was rich, but nice for the sweet tooth as I don't always eat much sweets. Finished the whole piece with the wife & wasn't left feeling over done.
Steve if you read this, you're solid, keep being you buddy.

Needed to grab a late night dinner after catching the Habs game & was happy to see Dunn's is open super late. I got the Super Combo Smoked Meat for takeout & it was a massive portion size for only about $30 after tax.
The food tasted great. I'd say this was probably my second favourite smoked meat meal during my stay in Montreal. The meat was a little too lean for my liking, would have probably preferred it to be a little bit more fatty (kind of felt more like a pastrami sandwich). But the portion size was huge, flavours were great, & value for money pretty good. The coleslaw in particular was delicious. Will definitely come back the next time I'm in Montreal!
Unfortunately we weren't able to try Dunn's. Despite the restaurant being over 50% empty & having THREE available high chairs for children they didn't want to seat our child at any of the available tables that could accommodate a high chairs. We ended up going to Shwartz instead.
Belle découverte pour un smoked meat dans un décor vraiment soigné. L'esthétique du lieu est top : les assiettes, les tables & les images d'archives sur les murs donnent beaucoup de charme à l'endroit.
La portion à 27 $ est très généreuse. La viande est bien rosée, bien poivrée & coupée en belles tranches. Par contre, je l'ai trouvée un peu plus sèche que celle de Schwartz's, que je préfère personnellement.
La salade de chou est bonne, mais assez sucrée. Les cornichons sont bien croustillants, ce qui accompagne très bien le sandwich. Petit bémol : le pain était peu attrayant. Sec & non intéressant à manger. Mes amis ont aussi trouvé que ça manquait de moutarde.
Dans l'ensemble, c'est une belle expérience avec une présentation très soignée & des portions satisfaisantes.

This place is awesome & has a casual, home-style taste that I feel some of the more famous places are missing. Sometimes, food can be TOO polished & Dunn's brings it right back down to earth. It's not pretentious or trying to be something it's not, it tastes like it was made by someone who loves you. The meat was great but don't sleep on the fries, holy heck they were top tier. A million bonus points for the quick service. As a visitor who's here for work & only has 30 minutes, I was well fed within that time. Thank you for the delicious food, making solo dining not awkward, & being so close to the office, this is an easy'will be back'!
When in Montreal having smoked meat is a check in the box & Dunns makes it an experience. We were quickly seated. Orders taken & food delivery fast! Our server, Jenny, was awesome. Checked on us & made sure we had all the condiments to go with spectacular sandwich & delish fries. Ate every bit of food on the dish. Chatted with a regular patron beside us making it a very friendly atmosphere.
I cannot begin to tell you how good my sandwich, coleslaw, & cheesecake were. I had Dunn's for the first time only 5 days ago. & I have thought about it all of those 5 days since. For a number of reasons, I wish I lived in the area; Dunn's is one of them. It's pricey, but the taste alone makes it worth it. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is the fries were nothing special.
Went here for a late night meal. I was surprised to see they are open until 5am. I ordered Dunn's Burger & Italian Poutine, as well as a Sundae for dessert. I have to say... this was easily one of my best late night meals in a long time! Very pleased with the food & the atmosphere. I will be back.

TOURIST TRAP WITH BAD FOOD. I used to go quite often at Dunn's late 90s early 2000s. Everyone was welcomed like a family member & the food was excellent. NOT ANYMORE. Stay away from this place. The waiter was barely polite & you're obviously just a dollar sign to him. The bread was ultra thin, soggy right from the start, & tasted nothing. The cook added just a tiny spot of mustard in the middle of the bread & that shows how little they care. The meat (medium) tasted nothing. The coleslaw was room temperature & served in an half-empty tiny bowl buried under the fries (they just threw everything in the basket). The tiny fries were barely hot & limp & were tiny so it cooks faster so they save money. Dunn's used to be a great place & proudly serving good food. Not anymore & it's now even worse than your local fast food joint. I've spent $35 for nothing & never going back. Stick to Schwartz instead because they have pride THERE.
Went for lunch the other day, specifically to get smoked meat sandwiches. We wanted to see how Dunn's stacks up against some of the other Montreal smoked meat heavyweights.
I got the'medium' fat & it was delicious. The meat was super tender, juicy, & had great flavor. We were at another place recently, starts with an'S' & in my opinion, this sandwich at Dunn's is slightly better.
Service was great, & our food arrived quickly. The fact that you can get a beer here is a big plus, too!
Bathrooms are freezing cold, as is the water from the sink - like ice! Parking is not easy in the area but you might get lucky on the street.
This or Schwartz's? Followed the recommendation of a native of Montreal & tried Dunns. The smoked meat is delicious, just the right amount of tender, fat, & seasoning. The bread can't handle the meat but who cares! Lots of mustard, coleslaw & a dill pickle makes this an unforgettable lunch. & of course the poutine was Devine! Strongly recommend. No nonsense service & a staple of Montreal's food culture.
My friend & I went out looking for a place that makes grilled cheese sandwiches, as I'd been craving them for months. However, when we got to Dunn's, we realized we'd gotten mixed up with another place from the photos online. By then we were already seated, so I didn't expect much, but I asked anyway if they could make it. Without missing a beat, they said'sure!!' & made it for me. I was so happy I almost cried. The staff's flexibility, friendliness, & easygoing attitude immediately set the tone for our visit. The restaurant's vibe is a perfect mix of 50s diner meets western sports bar, & we were there for it. The food was excellent, the service impeccable, & my friend & I thought that even though we've known this spot was there for years, it finally feels like we've truly discovered it. & with that, needless to say, we already know exactly where we'll be watching the Superbowl ;)

Montreal has been world renowned for it's fine smoked meat since the 1920's, when the first Dunn's opened. 🥪🍖
This branch has been opened since 2000 & couldn't be more downtown if it tried. Perfect place for comfort food before or after a Habs game, or after a night bar hopping on Crescent St.🍻
Last time we went I tried their smoked meat poutine & almost fainted is was so good. Great fries from real potatoes & Dunn's famous smoked meat served with delicious bbq sauce & curds.
You gotta be hungry though... the servings are copious.

I visited Montreal this past weekend & our group ate at Dunn's after our Saturday night game. The food was delicious, quickly served (hot). Our host Steve was amazing. He definitely made sure we were taken care of ...fantastic hospitalty.
Dunn's is a great standard in Montreal. The smoked meat sandwich's are awesome. I often wonder why people buy anything else when they come, but then again they do have a broad menu. But do get the smoked meat sandwich & a Dunns cherry cola - it's really the standard. Bonus points - if you order anything else, it is a slower service.
Staff were friendly & very prompt with welcoming you, taking your order, attentiveness. We weren't overly hungry but wanted to try Dunn's. We split the super sized Montreal smoked meat sandwich & split the routine. It was enough for both of us & it's was delicious. I can say that this was the best coleslaw (according to my taste)I've had in Montreal & I had coleslaw at 4 different places.
I ordered the Reuben & a poutine, both were perfectly smoky & delicious! The staff were friendly & respectful, & the service was great. Highly recommend DUNN'S for anyone craving quality smoked meat.
