Review Summary

Dobe & Andy is widely recognized as a staple for authentic Cantonese barbecue in Montreal, with many patrons praising the flavorful char siu, crispy roast pork, and succulent roast duck. While long-time fans often celebrate the restaurant for its nostalgic atmosphere and consistent quality, recent reviews indicate a divide in experiences regarding service efficiency and food consistency. Supporters frequently highlight the generous portions and the signature scallion sauce, while others have expressed concerns over rising prices, variable meat temperatures, and occasional service lapses. Despite mixed opinions on recent changes, many visitors continue to frequent the establishment for its classic Hong Kong style dishes and welcoming staff, cementing its reputation as a significant culinary destination in Chinatown.

I'm disappointed to post this review as I'd like to support this restaurant & gave it several opportunities to find a customer for life. First off, I would say I visited half a dozen times previously with mixed results including closed without notice, & out of bbq meat by 6pm. My most recent visit will likely be my last try. I rsvp'd (through Instagram & confirmed with the person running their Instagram) for a special dinner offered for Chinese new year. The menu sounded delicious & I invited friends & family to come along. When we arrive, we're informed that they are sold out of all the dishes that were part of the special menu & were not even aware of our reservation. The hostess was very apologetic & offered a slight discount on our meal. We should've walked out because the food that followed was not worth the hassle. More brown gravy than food, more rice than any other component, each dish was a disappointment. Worst example: We ordered eggplant & beef, a pretty traditional Chinese dish. We got 2 pieces of eggplant to share across 6 people, & probably a handful of pieces of beef. Add 2 cups of plain brown gravy & a bowl of rice for $20. I rarely leave bad reviews. But I wouldn't want others to be blindsided like we were.

C'était vraiment excellent. Le porc & le canard étaient savoureux. Le thé au lait chaud aussi. Une belle découverte. Même les enfants ont adoré.

We were downtown Montréal & my family wanted Chinese food. I really did not want food that I could eat at home But, I am so happy we went to Dobe & Andy Chinese restaurant. The food was amazing & our waitress ( Zoe) was incredible & very knowledgeable about the menu. Her recommendations were on point. The barbecue meats are so good. If you are in Montréal, don't miss this restaurant. Thank you, ~ Zoe
