Review Summary

Reviews present Dobe & Andy as a long standing Montreal Chinatown favorite for Chinese BBQ with standout roast pork and char siu and a Hong Kong vibe, offering generous portions and generally good value. The duck is praised by some for flavor but others find it dry or not as crunchy, and a few dishes arrive lukewarm or with inconsistent quality. The Guilin noodles, wonton soup, bok choy with scallion sauce, and milk tea are often highlighted, while service can be fast and friendly or slow and disorganized on busy nights with missed items. Overall the restaurant is seen as authentic and comforting with strong flavors and nostalgic atmosphere, though some reviews note changes in menu and quality that affect consistency.

The best Cantonese restaurant I've ever had.
Tbh everything I had was perfect. Especially I loved their roast pork. I will definitely go back to try their different dishes!

Decent noodle with good portion. I was looking for a place with good noodle & bbq pork&duck & this place did not disappoint me. Will go back again!

Ordered BBQ Pork through Doordash, honestly, it. was. incredible. I bought 1lb of BBQ pork & a side of steamed rice & they paired very well together, I ended up saving half of the BBQ pork for another meal because it's a good portion. (I mean it is a pound). Very worth it.

Cute spot with nice staff, but have noticed a sharp decrease in the food quality the past couple months. Ordered soy chow mein that was just soy sauce, noodles, bean sprouts, no onion, half the noodles were white & was overal bland. My favourite dish, Singapore noodles often come with no seasoning, no curry powder, just wet over cooked rice noodles with veg, pork & overcooked shrimp. Shame cause the staff & drinks are so great. The meats are good but are often more fat than meat

For a restaurant that claims to be authentic I'm pretty disappointed. Roasted pork shouldn't look remotely like this. Nobody sells roasted pork like this in HK. The skin & the pork are all separated. Not to mention the skins were not crispy at all, if any. The char siu is too "lean", this sort of char siu is generally used for char siu spaghetti soup (叉燒湯意) in HK, but not in rice meals. The ginger & scallion sauce is fine though.

As a traveler from Hong Kong, I can tell that the atmosphere feels like the old times in Hong Kong. However, the food I have ordered was not that great. Firstly, BBQ Pork & Roasted Pork are supposed to have different tastes, but the restaurant seems to have similar marination. Secondly, BBQ Pork & Roasted Pork are supposed to have certain percentage of grease to have better "grilled" tastes, but the meat here were too thin & so not tendered. Thirdly, BBQ Pork & Roasted Pork in Hong Kong are affordable food for the general public, which is manifested in the great portion & great price. The food here are not that expensive, but the portion of meat seems to be too not generous. Fourthly, BBQ Pork & Roasted Pork are supposed to have some kind of black & crispy texture at the edge (膿邊 in Chinese), but the meat here certainly ignore that important part. The iced milk tea is good that the tea base is Hongkongese. The use of milk makes it more compatible with the Hong Kong style. The size of the milk tea is big, which is quite similar to Hong Kong. Overall, I would say that in Canada, especially in Montreal, you cannot expect too much in Chinese food. But it's generally ok compared with other Chinese food in Northern America.

The place has been around since the 80s & I get why. The pork BBQ was my favorite, over the egg fried rice. No frills, hole in the wall, full of character. I thought the duck was a lot of bones & not a lot of meat, that would be the only thing I wouldn't order next time. Quick walk from the metro, fun to take in China Town too

One of my fave Chinese food spots in Montreal. Love the roasted pork, chow mein, & fried rice.

Great place to go in Chinatown. The food is great (although my roast duck did have a lot of bones). The wonton soup is a must have. It's large enough for 2-3 people to share & comes with 4 wontons. It has a great onion flavor. My favorite of the meats is the roast pork - which is really pork belly with crispy skin. Even in soup the skin stays crispy. The char sui is also very good. They also have a very refreshing Hong Kong Lemon Iced Tea. The restaurant itself is tucked away & there is often a line. The line can be long, but it moves fast. Once seated, the service is very rushed & uneven. They usually only have two servers for the whole restaurant who also clean & prepare some parts of orders. I ordered the roast pork one time but the server messed up the order & brought char sui - lesson learned, triple check your order with them. You also might need to flag down your server. If you get there too late they usually run out of the more popular items & what they have when you sit down might not be what they have when you order. Because of the short staff, the tables & chairs are not always cleaned properly.

Food was a 3/5 for us, the meats (bbq pork & duck) were both just too salty which perhaps we are the outliers who find that many restaurants in Montreal serve extremely salty meat. Loved the laid back ambience & staff tho. Would return for a nice cold ice tea out of the hot sun.

Really delicious BBQ pork & duck. BBQ pork was fatty & juicy, the duck was very flavourful. The large vegetables was smaller than expected but still quite tasty, a good amount of garlic used. I wish we had more time to dine in for the spiked Ribena drink. Cool retro vibes in the restaurant, like I was transported to the 90s.

Came here for lunch the other day & the portions are quite large & good value for money. The bbq pork was pretty good, but my noodles were a bit too crispy for chow mein. Service was quick & friendly.

Tried all the meats here & was pretty disappointed. Everything was served barely warm so that was off-putting to start. Pork shoulder was pretty tasty, duck & other pork were bland & below average. Service was very good & polite though

Great value here, especially if you get their 2 or 3 meat combo. Pork dishes are on the fattier side but they are indisputably tasty. Their roast duck can't be boneless but the staff was nice enough to make sure I had a "meatier" portion. They had chili oil if you want a bit of spice too. Overall great spot in Chinatown!
