Chef Simar visited us at the table over dinner before taking our order, & even checked on us after preparing our meal. The garlic naan was to die for; every curry & dish we had was painstakingly made lactose-free for us, & we couldn't be more pleased. The Patialo Sunrise was delectable; the Ambala Whiskey Sour delicious. Please come support this excellent business!
I've been a long-time fan of this place, but hadn't been back since the father & original owner passed & his son took over. I'm so glad I returned.
We were greeted by the son/chef himself, who was warm, attentive, & clearly committed to carrying on his father's legacy with care & passion. He took the time to ask us a few questions to'get to know us,' then chose our dishes himself, which made the whole experience feel personal & thoughtful.
I love when there's a real family story behind a restaurant, & you can feel it here.
The appetizer was outstanding - a chicken kebab dish served in an oven-style presentation, full of flavor & beautifully done. Our mains & dessert were equally delicious. Best naan I have had in a while.
My friend & I both loved the experience. We ate very well & found the pricing fair for the quality & care. Service was warm & attentive.
Will definitely be back.
love love LOVEEEEE.
first of all, the vibes, so aesthetic, so cozy, very charming & subtly refined. real candles, dimmed lights, & authentic silverware.
secondly, the price point, very reasonable considering that you end up sharing a variety of dishes with a friend or a group of people. thirdly & most importantly, the food (& drinks): beyond speechless… we started off with the mango lasi & chicken skewers which took us by surprise because the flavours were out of this world, then we ordered the shahi paneer + lamb masala (with coconut milk reduction$ with rice & naan: such an appropriate & daring level of spices where the flavours just simply melt in your tongue like a symphony.
highly recommend. 100/10. such a hidden gem!
Amazing food from amazing people. After living in Montreal for 10 years, this is the best Indian food (& one of the best restaurants) I've tried in the city. Michelin star service & food for a fraction of the price.
Spices in the curries are mixed in a layered & thoughtful fashion. Naan is to die for. Let yourself be guided by the chef - who talked to every table individually & checked in multiple times during the evening.
I can see myself going back every month to this magical place!
Délicieux repas, serveur attentif &, en prime, un repas entièrement sans gluten car le restaurant propose des naans sans gluten, au besoin!
This place has just been added to my top favourite restaurants in Montréal! The food was simply excellent, especially the malai kofta & the naan, as were the drinks & the very friendly & attentive service. Thanks so much for having us for my birthday dinner, it was a great evening & I can't wait to come back!
Ordered the Non veg thali for $30 today. Whole ordered costed me $50 including tax & all. Very disappointed with what I received. Only one curry with two little pieces of chicken & chickpea curry & two spoons of rice & a naan. For the price & hype about this place. It's not worth it at all in my experience. Very disappointed as I waited to come to Mtl to visit this place.
My friends & I love to try a new restaurant each month, & we chose Darbar as our pick for October. Let me tell you it didn't disappoint.
Not only did each dish surpass our expectations, it was so nice to hear the back stories of each dish from Chef Simar himself. & the ambiance was absolutely delicious! & the cutie photo of his parents on the take-out box, so wholesome.
