The best cakes & pastries in Montreal period. Le fraisier in the summer is my favorite. There is zéro compromise here. This is on the same level as the best of the Best in France. The quality remains consistent year after year. The amandines are the best I had anywhere in the world.
Tried their mille-feuille - it was really good! They have so many pastry options & everything looks delicious. You can also find lots of French products like Dammann teas, Isigny butter, & honey… Prices are definitely on the high side, but it's such a cute new spot worth visiting!
We'd been wanting to visit Chez Potier for quite some time, & we finally had the chance to stop by - it was absolutely worth it. The moment you walk in, you can tell this is a place that takes pride in what it offers. The display counters are beautifully arranged, showcasing an impressive selection of high-end pastries & baked goods that look as good as they taste.
The bakery section, in particular, is wonderful. Everything feels refined & crafted with care, from the presentation to the textures. The lemon tart stood out as truly exceptional - perfectly balanced between sweetness & tartness, with a delicate crust that melts in your mouth.
The staff were friendly & professional, adding to the pleasant atmosphere. The space itself is clean, elegant, & inviting - you can easily see why it's so well-regarded.
Overall, Chez Potier offers a refined yet welcoming experience, perfect for anyone who appreciates quality pastries & attention to detail. We'll definitely be back.
I recommend the latte & the hot chocolate. They were fabulous. We also tried the almond raspberry croissant. It was not bad but it was on the sweet side due to the raspberry jam filling.
The shop has plenty of European products. I was so tempted to buy them but didn't want to carry too much while I was exploring the city. It's worth checking it out if you are looking for some European products or gifts.
There were not many seating at the shop since it's not an actual cafe. I recommend take-out vs dine in.
Fancy place. Loved the cakes, great presentation & delicious 😋 great service 😀
Pecan Choco & Tarte citron were both pretty good. will be back to try mille feuille the next time
I search the world for the best of the best of viennoiserie & pastries (as a hobby & passion - not professionally). Chez Potier is the best viennoiserie in North America I've tried, followed closely by The Allis in West Loop, Chicago. Except they have everything you could want & their espresso is so rich, chocolatey, with notes of hazelnut & chestnut.
They also have a store for epicurean delights. 10/10 would recommend if you care about food & you're feeling something sweet.
Edit: someone insisted Duc du Lorraine was better Viennoiserie & the best in the city. So I checked it out. It's okay, definitely not better than Chez Potier, & their espresso is not as good either, it's louder, worse service. 10/10 would recommend Chez Potie
I've been buying from this pastry shop for over a year & I must agree with the other reviews to say that while the pastries & cakes are really good probably the best I've had in Montreal, the service is terrible. There's one young woman who is very warm & welcoming her service is great everyone else is extremely cold & they do stare at you weirdly when you come in in a weird judgemental way. It's just really weird & dry customer service that is not welcoming at all. I assume most of them are co-owners of the place because the staff doesn't change
