The dishes are ok.
If you are used to Japanese food, stick to the udon & don't have omu rice or other dishes (lack of flavor, rice cooking is not the best)
Dango are served fridge temperature & the Sakura mochi rice is super hard.
The staff is nice but has little to no real knowledge about Japanese food despite the fact that this cafe claims to be a Japanese cafe (on several occasions, they did not understand when I asked for something like a hanami dango, correcting me'the 3 color)
The food portion is relatively small for the price, especially the udon was pretty small. The drinks are more reasonable, I would recommend the drinks more than the food. The rice had a lot of rice on the bottom but little topping.
On the plus side, there was plenty of seating available on a Saturday afternoon, & the staff were friendly & welcoming.
SO YUM! I got smoked salmon onigri + beef udon + curry udon + mango matcha
Delicious, hearty beef udon soup & kind, genuine service!
Diner vibe was nice but could be a cozier.
I wish more meat was given for the price, especially the gy?don, I felt it was skimpy.
Gorgeous, delicious, I had to get a second of the Tiramisu Matcha. Best matcha i've ever had. Thank you 🩷🩷✨
food safety feedback: My purchase today developed patches of white, cotton-like mold while stored properly & within the stated shelf life. I've attached photos for reference.
This is concerning, & I hope management can address the product's freshness or storage procedures.
Ordered the mushroom udon & strawberry green lychee tea. Wasn't a huge fan of both, the udon lacked that rich mushroom flavour & the tea + syrup weren't that potent/fresh
I wanted to love it but I didn't. Long wait, okay food, not a very inviting venue.
So I got a super cursed matcha latte from them this morning. The matcha itself was good, tastes the same as Starbucks'. But the lid couldn't close properly because the edge of the cup was for some reason indented all around, & I didn't realize this until I took a sip & it spilled on me. I tried to drink it without the lid & obviously knock over the cup. I also don't like how there's almost no option to not tip. Overall wouldn't buy from them again.
We decided to visit what is proudly advertised as Montreal's first Udon café-a title that immediately raises expectations &, unfortunately, also the stakes. The space itself is undeniably cute, the menu sounded promising, & the inclusion of onigiri excited us too.
We started with the miso mushroom cream udon, a dish whose name suggests depth, umami, & earthy warmth. What arrived, however, was more of a dairy-forward soliloquy. The miso was nowhere to be found, the mushrooms had apparently taken the day off, & the broth tasted exclusively like cream. To be fair, the mushrooms themselves-when encountered-were quite good, which somehow made their overall absence more tragic.
The beef udon fared better. The beef was well-cooked & nicely seasoned. The broth, however, pulled a classic bait-&-switch: it smelled rich & inviting, only to taste far more subdued than expected. Aromatically impressive, flavor-wise a bit shy.
The unagi onigiri was decent by Montreal standards, & honestly one of the safer bets on the table. If you go, I'd gently nudge you in that direction.
We noticed an impressive lineup of desserts, though we didn't partake. The café was busy, which is always a good sign, but unfortunately not a great justification for service that felt a little rushed & impatient-less'welcome in' & more'what'll it be.'
Overall, it isn't a culinary catastrophe, but it's also not a destination. If you're downtown, cold, & craving something warm, it's perfectly serviceable. Just don't go out of your way for it.
My friend & I went to Cafe Noya for the first time today & loved it! We tried the unagi onigiri, spicy tuna onigiri, & pork gyoza, all of which tasted amazing (although I thought the unagi onigiri didn't have enough filling)
I wasn't the biggest fan of the salted vanilla matcha, so I'll try something else next time :)
The space itself is well decorated & great for studying, especially considering how close it is to McGill & Concordia. The staff were very sweet & friendly! I thought the order took a little too much time to arrive when the cafe was full, but I understand they only recently opened.
Will 100% be back!!
Good food but long wait to get it! Young cooks more interested in joking around than working!
Food is extremely good & good location, that is why i go. However it has been not only one time but 3 time there is something wrong with my order experience. I believe either the staff are unexperienced or there is not enough staff. Indeed, the first time i went they gave me a cold drink when I clearly mentioned hot. The Second time, i ordered the same drink cuz it taste good but it was wayy to sweet. Good thing is i believe the employee knew she made a mistake & saw my face so she made me a new one. Third time i asked before ordering how long it would take as they were busy, employee told me 10-15minute. I waited 30 minute & asked the employee just to realize the food was ready & hidden behind the counter but they just didn't make my machine beep to go take it.
Restaurant très mignon, mais le curry goûtait bizarre & le poulet aussi.
ordered omurice & it unfortunately just made me miss japan. none of that gooey center, more like a badly cooked omelette on plain rice & watered down gravy.
yuzu matcha had too much yuzu, to the point that the matcha was barely palatable. the yuzu was nice, but it overwhelmed the drink.
otherwise, the atmosphere is very nice. the music is nice & calming, but too loud for my taste.
I don't usually leave reviews, but I was genuinely disappointed by my experience here. The drink I received was incorrect-I requested soy milk, but it appeared to be made with oat milk & was extremely sweet. I wasn't asking for a full remake, only for the drink to be adjusted to be less sweet, as sugar causes me stomach discomfort.
Unfortunately, the staff member at the counter was unhelpful & cold, even after I politely & calmly explained the situation. I rarely ever ask for changes or complain, so the refusal to make a simple adjustment to my matcha was especially upsetting. I was surprised by the lack of flexibility, particularly since my request was reasonable.
Overall, the interaction left a very poor impression, & I don't plan to return or recommend this location. (I will say the place is cute🥰)
I LOVE Café Noya. The food here is so satisfying: hearty, tasty & yet not too fatty. Perfect balance as Japanese food always achieves.
The chicken katsu onigiri is seriously addicting (I could eat A LOT of those). You also can't go wrong with the creamy miso udon. Honestly, everything they have tastes fantastic.
I ordered the chicken teriyaki with rice on uber eats. The food was bland, no teriyaki sauce to be found. The chicken wasn't fresh, the rice felt like it just came out of the microwave. Overall, this tasted like a 3 day old left over meal that was barely edible. I can't speak about the service or atmosphere but the quality of the food is terrible.
