Afficher toutpasta(41) italian(25) mushroom(18) recommend(18) sauce(16) vibe(14) wine(13) fresh(11) highly recommend(9) dessert(9) focaccia(9) bar(8)You should check this place out, ASAP. The dining experience I had there tonight was the best I can remember in a very long time. Mind you, I went solo. It was a lovely, extremely busy evening in St-Henri. I was curious about Figata, but pessimistic about getting in. The welcomer at the door told me it would be tight, but she would see what she could do. She spoke to the maitre'd & the kitchen, & after much discussion, I was given the option of a solo spot, but I had to be out in 50 minutes, to acommodate an existing reservation. I accepted the offer. & I'm so glad I did. I was seated at the bar. I was served quickly. I ordered a Moretti, & the fish crudo of the day, tuna carpaccio. I asked the bartender to choose a wine to pair with the tuna. Just before the food arrived, I was offered a sample of a white wine from Sicily. The barkeep explained that it would be somewhat bold, but not to overpower the fish. Wine pairing 101. Easy to say, but not to do. It was great. A perfect pairing. The wine had a significant, but subtle body, on-target acidity, & a hint of Riesling-style minerality. I asked the bartender what the varietal was. She wasn't sure, then proceeded to consult with no less than four of her very busy colleagues before returning with the answer that it was an Inzolia, also known as Ansonica. You should try some. The fish was amazing. Fresh, with a sweet sauce & some small hot peppers & capers. It was a refreshing protein dish, hence the crisp white wine being a perfect match. I would bet that everything on their menu is of similar high quality. But what stood out for me the most was the customer service. Making a serious effort, without hesitation, to find an improbable spot, & to answer my question about the wine made me feel the best looked after. & isn't that the whole point of going to a restaurant?
Went to eat with my partner & sat by the bar. The drinks were good, the vibe is friendly. The service was okay. The food is nothing special, definitely not a carbone dupe like what TikTok is advertising. However, I could hear someone shouting to the staff in the kitchen from where I was sitting, which was very unsettling.
For a 3-week wait for a reservation (& it was a Wednesday) I had hoped for a bit more fanfare. This a neighbourhood resto, with casual dining. Fair prices, but limited menu. If you don't like pasta, there was 1 meat & 1 fish on the menu (& quite expensive IMO). I think once the hype dies down, we would go back. I wouldn't wait 3 weeks for the same menu.
There is a nice buzz - not a place for intimate dining...quite noisy. Staff was pleasant & service was good but slow...for pasta that concerns me. (Reservation clearly mentions 2 hours. It took 30 minutes for our first service.)
This resto is co-owned by the same owner when it was a bar...& it still feels like a bar - the bar area is quite prominent in the space, leaving little room for tables. Has potential...I wish them only the best - I like seeing the hood busy.
Warm & friendly & the food was fantastic. Drinks from the bartenders were top notch, especially the Italian Grey hound. The meatballs were out of this world. Going back soon !
Charcuterie board was good, could have used a less basic cheese though. The artichokes were a pleasantly unique touch but not sure why they were piled on the sun-dried tomatoes. The sun-dried tomatoes were delicious. The cured meat was nice. Olives were good quality. Maybe serve it on a board?
The focaccia wasn't really like any other focaccia I get at other places. It's passable with the above platter but otherwise I wouldn't get it.
The Zozzona was disappointing, you couldn't taste & barely could see the sausage. There was nothing to balance out the strong cheeses.
I enjoyed the funghi e tartufo, very solid mushroom pasta dish.
Tiramisu wasn't cut properly & was mostly mascarpone. Didn't really have enough flavour to it.
Overall I think more effort could be put into presentation.
My Negroni Terra was good, very similar to a typical Negroni.
Cute decor. Nice 80s music. Excellent service. Was very helpful with the wine. Called me when my friend forgot her bag, which was very appreciated.
We were seated at the bar, & while I don't usually love that, there was ample room & it was good bar stools. The bartenders were super friendly & provided excellent service.
Now, most importantly, the food somehow lived up to the hype. 10/10 experience
Fries - mid. Felt even under-salted. Crispy; I liked the shape, but the bowl came barely filled because the sauce cups took up so much room. There were a lot of scraps (half curlies, even 1/3rd curlies). -5
Meat sauce - boring, like just simple meat sauce.
Béchamel - good, okay sauce felt kind of like a mushroom saice.
The concept seems fun, but the flavours felt a little flat.
Caesar - good, very anchovy-forward!! -7.7
Perfect amount of parmesan - I liked it. If you don't like anchovies, you might not enjoy it (there were also some stray anchovies in the bowl). Some pieces were so saucy, I enjoyed that. Lettuce was fresh & good, but no croutons (she said she'd give us non-bacon ones, but we didn't get them) - still enjoyed it. Definitely an acquired taste.
Mushroom - noodle al dente a bit; I liked the noodle shape. It was good. While I love mushrooms, it felt almost like too many. Good, but Amerigo mushroom pasta is even better (though this was the best of the bunch). 7
Tomato - interesting spice. There was something a little weird in the sauce, like an unrecognizable, earthy flavour. I liked the shape, but it was solid average - nothing outstanding, literally just a tomato sauce with cheese. -5
Vodka - disappointing . Spice overpowering; doesn't taste like vodka sauce at all. Besides spice, it has no flavour whatsoever. Homemade is honestly better. -4
Service - good. They filled our water often. Our waitress was nice. Good romantic ambiance, dark, so if you're someone who pulls out a flashlight in dark restaurants, beware your flashlight will be out. Cute vibe - it's Italian, homey( with the tablecloths), but with a more fancy vibe.
All in all, everyone I went with, myself included, rated it between 5-6. for the total restaurant experience food wise.
It's a try-once-&-go-back-to-your-comfort-spot kind of place. Definitely overrated, & I wouldn't go back, just a place you try because everyone is posting on TikTok.
Cute spot, but in a neighbourhood that already has a lot of great Italian restaurants we were expecting it to stand out. It really didn't. Mediocre at best; would sooner go back to Elenia, Gia, or Barbara.
What a great new spot in St Henri! Service was kind & attentive, sat at the bar (barstools actually comfortable so if you are a meal-at-the- bar lover, this is a great spot), charming & not too big. I had a delicious mocktail, my friend a regular cocktail, both great! We split the octopus, served with beans & it was perfectly cooked. We each chose the scallop risotto & highly recommend! Will definitely be back
