The batter wasn't too sweet, just perfect & had a nice texture to it. It was a bit cramped though definitely a quick grab & bite. I would come back.
I was blown away with the fish & chips! I had the haddock & chips with maple syrup batter. The flavor/seasoning was amazing! The server was friendly & the service was great. I visited on my last night in Montreal, but I would definitely visit again if I'm ever in town.
I visited with a friend on our Canadian adventure recently & we found that the shrimp was delicious. He had the poutine, whilst I had the fries & tandoori shrimp (although, we didn't notice any sort of spice) Overall, friendly staff, good portions & I wish I'd tried the battered fish!
The food is excellent. We went there around 2pm. A very clean restaurant. We both had the Cod (Burgundy Lion batter) & fries, the Cod was so good, a big portion of 2 big pieces, very nicely seasoned & fried, tasted so good & was very fresh, & very hot to the last bite. The best Cod I have ever had. The fries portion was big, I could eat only half of it, so tasty. I had Lacroix cider with my food. We did not have dessert since we were very full. Service was very good, polite & pleasant staff, also a fast service. The food is cooked fresh upon ordering. Restaurant is not big but many small tables with 2 chairs, also bar stools around the cooking counter. We discovered the restaurant by coincidence & we are so happy, we did. We will definitely return.
Very atmospheric fish & chips place. The staff are friendly & the maple syrup battered haddock was excellent!
Just take the Brit bit out of it please...it just doesn't taste British at all. I am a Londoner of 20 years & have tasted it all over the UK. For starters, chips are just plain wrong...guess different sort of potato shall be used, it's always Maris Piper Potatoes that are used in the UK. The batter is vaguely reminiscent of the one in the UK but not quite. Nice try though.
Good fish & chips, the batter is not too thick or greasy, it's thin light crispy fried fish.
Loved my fish & chips. The fish was perfectly cooked & moist, the batter was good & the tartare made it delicious, I only wish it had come with more sauce. The pieces are a fish are good but then you have a whole piece inside.
Gluten Free fish & chips! Delicious! (It isn't listed on the menu so you have to ask. You can have the gluten-free batter with your choice of three different fishes. We got the salmon & it was fantastic.)
Ordered Haddock Maple Syrup batter. Did not taste the maple syrup at all! & they changed the fries, used to be homefries thicker & sweet. Frozen fries are unappealing! No longer same since new ownership.
Visiting from the UK, we had the cod in burgundy ale batter & it was delicious.
I ordered the haddock maple syrup batter fish & it was soooooooo good, It's an amazing place to go eat when you are on a date or just with family. I will definitely come back.
Great place in Montréal to get fish & chips. Fish is fresh, & the batter is crispy. Fries are perfectly made. The servers are friendly. The dining room is a bit cramped.
One of the things I always try to do is visit a chippy everywhere I go! I've had them almost everywhere I've been. The best ones tend to besmall but with a large fryer. Brit & Chips was no exception. Tables & seats inside are limited, as space is dedicated to producing delicious meals! We almost passed on the place due to lack of seating. Fortunately, one of the wait staff, Daní informed us that they had plenty of outdoor seating. I was dubious at first as the canopy on the outdoor seating area looked like it was designed for sun, not rain! As we'd brought umbrellas, problem solved! We'd dine seni al fresco under a combination of sun shade & umbrellas. The menu is not fancy, fish in various forms, freshly prepared & served hot. My wife & her niece were reticent about trying the maple syrup battered haddock but her boyfriend, being the adventurous type, ordered it with chips. Daní correctly informed us that while one could tell maple syrup was an ingredient, it wasn't sweet like eating pancakes. The rest of us ordered the cod, in burgundy ale batter. To get us started we had a couple of amazing Québec produced bitter beers & a couple of glasses of house wine. My wife commented that the wine was excellent. The food arrived promptly & the presentation was exactly what one would expect from a British style chippy. 2 pieces of crisp golden brown battered fish with a generous helping of crisp chips! The flavour was amazing for both fish & chips. My niece's boyfriend noted that as Danaí had predicted, the maple syrup in the batter helped enhance the flavour of the fish & definitely did not overpower it. Pricing was what one would expect for a quality fish & chip meal, with wine & domestic beer. All in all, a great meal served by the friendly & attentive Danaí in a convivial atmosphere. Definitely a must visit for a chippy aficionado (pun intended)!
Added this on my list of poutine to try while visiting Montreal, because I love fish/chips, reviews were good & fairly close to the hotel. I had the halibut with a poutine & it was so good. My order was quick (maybe 5 minutes) & came out hot & fresh. Fish wasn't oily, just enough batter & meat on fish was perfect. Fries were the perfect fresh cut & well cooked. Couldn't finish it one sitting. Had the rest 4 hours later & it was still good! Service was also good. Will be back!
We tried this place because of all the good reviews. I'm not sure whether the restaurant was having a bad night but the chips were awful- soggy & overcooked. The fish was smothered in batter which was not very nice. I had the salmon & my partner had the cod with a side of mushy peas. It was a very disappointing dining experience.
Our first night in Montreal was Good Friday & my friend that I was traveling with said that his family always did fish & chips & really wanted to do that for dinner. Upon research, Brit & Chips was the restaurant that kept coming up. We knew since it was Good Friday there might be a wait but we didn't mind. When we got there they said it was 45 mins but we got in a lot quicker than that. We both got the maple battered haddock & it was absolutely delicious. It was just the right fish to batter ratio & it wasn't greasy at all. Wasn't super pricey & we got a lot of food. Will make this a stop again next time I come to Montreal!
Very nice fish & chip spot, lots of different type of fish & batter. The tartare sauce is also great! The prices are affordable, i've been many times & I recommend
Its the only fish & chip restaurant Ive been to that has maple syrup battered haddock!!!
I haven't had great fish & chips that was even close to as good as I had here today in many years . Two big pieces of cod in an excellent batter with a ton of great fries that I was not able to finish to my great regret. I will definitely be back again!
