Bouillon Albert was born out of a passion for convivial cuisine and a desire to recreate the warm atmosphere of Parisian bouillons. We draw inspiration from the simplicity and authenticity of French dining, while adding a modern, local touch, reflecting the diversity of the Plateau Mont-Royal.
Reviews of Bouillon Albert describe a lively, warm French bistro experience with prices that feel very reasonable for Montreal and a menu that delivers classic Parisian bouillon fare. Many praise the friendly, attentive service and the inviting atmosphere, with bar seating and a buzzy but comfortable dining room. Dishes that come up as favorites include escargots, bone marrow, onion soup, onglet frites, ravioli, and canard confit, with desserts like rice pudding and millefeuille often highlighted. The kitchen is praised for solid technique and flavors that evoke Parisian brasserie fare, and the overall value is repeatedly described as excellent for the quality. Some reviews note inconsistencies in service, portions that seem small for the price, occasional dishes that are too salty, and noise levels or seating near the door. Overall Bouillon Albert is seen as a charming, reliable spot for French comfort food in Montreal, likely to attract visitors who value approachable prices, good service, and a lively ambiance.
Beau restaurant!
One of my favourite discoveries on my annual August Montreal trip. It was so good that it was the only restaurant I tried to go three times in a month but alas they were closed on Labour Day for a much deserved rest. I guess I'll have to keep dreaming about the escargot & skate wing & rice pudding until my next visit!

We were there to celebrate a birthday. Our server was great! The food was so delicious. I loved the roasted bone marrow, escargot, leeks with hazelnut vinaigrette, & steak frites. My family enjoyed the ravioli, duck confit, trout. The desserts were excellent too. The rice pudding tasted phenomenal. The profiteroles & mille feuille were so yummy too. The ambience was so nice. I would love to come here again.
Food was excellent - thoughtful, flavourful, very well done. The only surprise was the by-the-glass wine choices. When I asked the server for something fresh & crisp, I was offered a Viognier, then a Viognier/Chardonnay blend. Given the strength of the full list, it felt like an odd & very pedestrian direction compared to what I'd expect in Montreal where leaner, more mineral-driven whites are common. It also left me wondering if assumptions were being made about my preferences.

Bouillon Albert is a small wood & amber-clad space with intimate seating that offers a variety of small & larger plates of French bistro flavors done well & at affordable prices.
The Russian-style egg was simple yet well executed. The roasted bone marrow was rich, indulgent, & a great value for the price. The skate wing was moist & flaky, & paired with a zingy & aromatic brown butter sauce with lemon & capers.
The highlight of the meal was the dessert of rice pudding, creamy & deeply decadent with candied pecans that added a wonderful textural contrast. Every mouthful left me wanting more.
Overall, I was satisfied with my experience at Bouillon Albert & I am interested to come back to try what else they have to offer.
This new French restaurant offers a charming ambiance with dim lighting & an intimate atmosphere even with the hustle & bustle. The service was friendly, prompt, & attentive. The food exceeded my expectations, especially given the more affordable price point. The duck was my favourite dish, cooked to perfection & tenderly coming off the bone. The ravioli came close, with its perfect texture & flavour. The entrees were also delicious & so was the wine. The meal ended on a great note with the pecan rice pudding dessert, which was so rich & addictive. I would however skip on steak frites, which I thought were just ok. Otherwise, totally recommend giving this spot a try!
I happened upon the Albert, the windows were open to the street, the lighting / atmosphere seemed quite inviting, & there was a good crowd. I was able to get a seat at the bar. The noise level inside was quite soft, unlike so many restaurants today. The menu was full of compelling Bistro items. My meal was enjoyable in every way: perfectly imagined & prepared, each dish the perfect temperature, & the pacing between courses was also perfect, not rushed. I had enjoyable vin blanc with my meal, but the'signature' cocktails they were making also looked good. Service was wonderfully friendly & professional. I hope to get back here during my current visit.

classic bistro, comfortable, lively & casual, good atmosphere overall. staff were super welcoming, & the food was quick. great location if you're looking to try some hearty french food.
we enjoyed all of the items we ordered, with the oeuf mayonnaise being the most average. the most stellar being the escargot & duck confit, extremely well cooked & flavourful.
they do not have AC in the summer so just be mindful of how sweaty you will be, we managed fine.
The service was really nice & the spot makes for a cute date spot. It was really noisy with the windows open though.
The prices are fair but portions kind of small.
The food is okay, nothing really blew me away. Ordered the tartare, ravioli & profiteroles after seeing the great reviews about them. While they weren't bad, they just didn't leave much of an impression on me. The profiteroles especially were pretty dry like they were old.
While I appreciate having a more affordable restaurant in the area, I think I'd rather go down to l'Express & have something more substantial.
The night before, we were celebrating our anniversary, & the manager at another restaurant recommended this place. We were looking for something local, French, & with a good vibe - this totally delivered.
We showed up at 5:30 PM on a Monday, thinking it'd be quiet. Nope. The place was already buzzing, & by 7 PM it was packed. Luckily, they managed to seat us - & we're so glad they did.
Let's talk food: absolutely delicious. Classic French bistro with a little something extra. We had the escargot, Russian eggs, & bone marrow to start - all outstanding. For mains, we went with the duck confit, steak frites, & ravioli. We also order the mash potatoes (really amazing) green beans, & mushrooms. Every bite was fantastic. We were pretty full, but we decided to share a rice pudding on their recommendation. It was awesome!
Don't hesitate - just make a reservation. This place is clearly a local favorite.
We enjoyed the food & drinks but we were sweating like pigs. Downing water where the poor server kept refilling & the ice melted faster than we can drink it. I got a few mosquito bites so the mosquitos were dining on me whike i was enjoying my share of food lol. No air conditioning is my only complaint!!
