Bouillon Albert was born out of a passion for convivial cuisine and a desire to recreate the warm atmosphere of Parisian bouillons. We draw inspiration from the simplicity and authenticity of French dining, while adding a modern, local touch, reflecting the diversity of the Plateau Mont-Royal.
Bouillon Albert delivers classic French bistro fare at very reasonable prices, with a warm, convivial atmosphere that many guests call authentic and comforting. Dishes like bone marrow, escargots, beef tartare, onglet with green sauce, ravioli, canard confit, and millefeuille or rice pudding and profiteroles frequently appear as highlights, and the wine list and cocktails are noted as good value. Service is described as friendly and attentive on many visits, though some experiences mention slow or uneven service, wait times, and a few missteps such as forgotten appetizers or seating near doors that let in cold air. The vibe ranges from bar seating to intimate tables, and overall guests feel the restaurant offers a genuine Parisian bouillon experience with generous portions and strong flavors, many planning to return to try more dishes.
Had a beautiful time, went for my birthday but said it was my friend's birthday to avoid the awkwardness. The gentleman at bar brought us a dessert & sang which was really kind. The food was fantastic, especially the os a moelle & steak fries. The mayonnaise was a bit too acidic though but rest was impeccable 🙌🏾
We visited in September, 2025. We had a reservation & they had us waiting 20 minutes. Then they forgot about us & left 4 of us to share 2 cups of water for half an hour. Also they don't believe in ketchup?
But the FOOD?? The food was delicious. I've never wiped my plate so clean. The bone marrow? Elegant. The steak? Rarer than I asked but delicious. The soup??? Divine. The fish??? Damn near licking the plate at the end.
& the rice pudding??? A must have. We wanted to go back the next day & ask for pudding to-go but had to catch a train.
Snagged in by the French onion soup. Very much enjoyed the trout & green beans. Pleasant service, accommodating in English. The bar is well-thought out - snuggle spots for couples, comfortable for solo diners. My barneighbour's escargot smelled heavenly & the steak looked perfect.
Very good French food. The onion soup was lovely, & so were the escargot. A friend got steak frites & it was not good. It was burnt & the meat was tough, even though he asked for medium done.
Great service, super friendly staff.

We lucked out had a great table. Host was very welcoming. Starters were os à moelle ,tatare , escargots & lobster bisque. Main hanger steaks & fries one was perfect rare
one was medium well instead of medium , the skate with fries was outstanding.
& blanquette de veau also . Great profiteroles .
Everything was on point good bistro fare although some dishes slightly over salty.
Price was reasonable ambiance lighting & acoustics were surprisingly good for a packed room. Our wines were perfect recommended White mousseux & a cabernet. We will definitely return .
Authentic French food & lived up to its expectations! Service was very kind & friendly. I personally have never been to Paris France before but I have seen these things online overseas, i feel like this restaurant will help you feeling not-left-out if you crave what is on the menu. I had a glass of rosé which wasn't the best glass of wine ever, but nonetheless good.
The beef tartare was on point, very well presented & yummy in flavour. I also recommend the escargot & if you want extra bread & butter, it's no extra cost. The servers will gladly assist you with a second round or so.
The hanger steak frites also hit the nail on the head, cooked to medium. Was well on point. The green sauce for the steak reminded me of the viral video of the Parisian resto where they had the AYCE steak&frites in paris & replicated the same, looking the same. Thanks for making this in Montreal, Bouillon Albert!
The rice pudding for dessert was very very hearty & a bit heavy but was worth a try. My dinner was delicious. I've been to Chez Alexandre in Downtown MTL & I personally find BOUILLON ALBERT to be more affordable & better in quality food

We were there to celebrate a birthday. Our server was great! The food was so delicious. I loved the roasted bone marrow, escargot, leeks with hazelnut vinaigrette, & steak frites. My family enjoyed the ravioli, duck confit, trout. The desserts were excellent too. The rice pudding tasted phenomenal. The profiteroles & mille feuille were so yummy too. The ambience was so nice. I would love to come here again.
This new French restaurant offers a charming ambiance with dim lighting & an intimate atmosphere even with the hustle & bustle. The service was friendly, prompt, & attentive. The food exceeded my expectations, especially given the more affordable price point. The duck was my favourite dish, cooked to perfection & tenderly coming off the bone. The ravioli came close, with its perfect texture & flavour. The entrees were also delicious & so was the wine. The meal ended on a great note with the pecan rice pudding dessert, which was so rich & addictive. I would however skip on steak frites, which I thought were just ok. Otherwise, totally recommend giving this spot a try!
The night before, we were celebrating our anniversary, & the manager at another restaurant recommended this place. We were looking for something local, French, & with a good vibe - this totally delivered.
We showed up at 5:30 PM on a Monday, thinking it'd be quiet. Nope. The place was already buzzing, & by 7 PM it was packed. Luckily, they managed to seat us - & we're so glad they did.
Let's talk food: absolutely delicious. Classic French bistro with a little something extra. We had the escargot, Russian eggs, & bone marrow to start - all outstanding. For mains, we went with the duck confit, steak frites, & ravioli. We also order the mash potatoes (really amazing) green beans, & mushrooms. Every bite was fantastic. We were pretty full, but we decided to share a rice pudding on their recommendation. It was awesome!
Don't hesitate - just make a reservation. This place is clearly a local favorite.

I discovered Bouillon Albert a little over two weeks ago, & I've already been twice, which isn't something I usually do. The restaurant is new, but it's run by the same owners who previously operated the tartare steak spot that used to be there. That said, the experience now is completely different! & much improved! The service, in particular, has taken a huge step forward. It's attentive without being overbearing, & the staff seem genuinely proud of what they're offering.
The menu is a little short, yes ... but it's focused. It stays true to the spirit of a traditional bouillon: classic French comfort food, simply prepared, reasonably priced, & made to feel approachable rather than pretentious. Everything I've tasted so far was well cooked, well balanced, & presented with care. You can tell the kitchen is aiming for quality & quantity, & it shows.
What really caught me off guard was the pricing. It's shockingly affordable ! In the best possible way! In today's dining landscape, it's rare to find a place that offers this level of execution at such reasonable prices. That's exactly what a bouillon should be.
Now for the highlights. The rillettes de tours is a standout, light, delicate, & beautifully seasoned. The millefeuille à la verveine honestly blew me away! crisp, airy layers with just the right amount of herbal sweetness. & I know it sounds simple, but the mashed potatoes deserve a mention too, smooth, buttery, & perfectly seasoned. When even the mash is memorable, you know you're in good hands.
I'm really glad this place opened up. It's unpretentious, thoughtful, & delivers far more than the price point would suggest. I'll definitely be going back - probably sooner rather than later.
Went here for a birthday dinner. Food was okay, but the service & atmosphere were excellent. Had the tartare, escargot & bone marrow to start. Wasn't blown away by any of it, but still decent. Had the cod with potatoes & steak frites for the mains, again, good without being great. Had the profiteroles & flan for dessert, which were again decent. Fairly priced which is a huge plus for this resto.
Last night, three friends & I stumbled upon this *gem* of a restaurant in Montreal, & wow-our taste buds are still throwing a party! We kicked things off with beef tartare (so good we almost fought over the last bite), escargot (still in the shell, fancy *&* delicious), & a cheese platter that had us questioning all our life choices up to that point.
Then came the *pièce de résistance*-steak frites. Perfectly cooked, juicy, & paired with sauces that made us want to lick the plates (we didn't… *or did we?*). The service was top-notch, the vibes were immaculate, & we left plotting our next visit before we even hit the sidewalk.
10/10 would recommend-bring your appetite & prepare to be wowed!
