The best & most authentic Japanese food in Montreal by far.
I typically order multiple appetizers when I come here, as there is a wonderful variety. I recommend:
- agedashi tofu (the standout menu item, better than any I was able to find in Japan)
- spicy eggplant
- korokke
- grilled fish (especially if the yellowtail cheek is available)
The katsudon is also very good, in large part due to the broth. The broth used here is consistently amazing.
I've been coming to Furusato for over a decade & was devastated when they closed during covid. It's a blessing they've returned & I hope they'll be open forever.
Safe but very tasty authentic japanese food, which is rare in montreal, less these days but still.
The vibes are immaculate at this place. on one hand i want them to flourish, but in another i want to gatekeep this local gem all for myself! food are nothing like the japanese commercial you find downtown; everything tastes fresh & authentic. (personal favourite the tofu dish)
Always delicious & authentic, this is one of the best places in Montréal! The service is also very kind & welcoming.
Really an authentic Japanese restaurant!! The sushi are fresh & everything just felt like in Japan. The service was amazing!
A friendly & casual restaurant serves authentic Japanese dishes. It's not a fancy & chic place like the ones in Old Montreal or in Plateau, & I hope it stays like that way! The menu lists classic Japanese dishes with fairly reasonable price. Their sushi is so good - it's not just the freshness of the ingredients but also the way they prepare the rice. There are so many sushi restaurants in Montreal yet most of them (even the fancy & expensive ones) seem to have hard time making the sushi rice properly, which is a huge disappointment for a native Japanese like me. Furusato never fails & always makes me happy when I have the first bite of their sushi. Other dishes are also great but haven't tried all of them because we always go for their sushi :) The chef & the servers are so humble which also gives you a sense of an authentic Japanese restaurant in Japan. Furusato-san, please stay as you are!
Finally, real authentic Japanese dishes available in Montreal! Each meal is prepared by the owner; a Japanese trained Chef. His Japanese wife, also owner, ensures everything is done to perfection! Having been to Japan many times, this is the real taste of Japanese food!
I am so happy to have discovered this gem, all the 5-stars reviews are with reason! Finally an authentic, Japanese-led Sushi place where you get amazing quality for a very fair price. Yes, it won't win any interior design awards but if you care about authenticity, delicious food, this is the place to be.
This is the rebirth of the original Furusato on Bleury, & it's every bit as good. Chef Akira-san brought his magic along, & somehow even the staff & locale capture the same authenticity & pure joy of deceptively simple dishes exquisitely prepared & unpretentiously presented. It's not a place you bring someone you want to impress - unless that someone can recognize the work of a genius chef in his own natural environment.
