I'm a huge fan of bakeries, & this is hands down the best bakery I've ever been to.
During my stay in Montreal, I visited four highly reviewed bakeries, but none of them came close to this place. Everything we tried was incredibly fresh, delicate, & absolutely delicious. It was so good that we finished an entire box of baked goods in about five minutes-& immediately went back in to buy more.
The customer service was also excellent-friendly, welcoming, & efficient. The shop itself was very clean & well kept, which made the experience even better.
One thing to note is that the indoor seating area is quite limited, so I'd recommend planning for takeout rather than dining in. Also, be sure to double-check their opening days & hours-they're only open Wednesday through Saturday, & closed the rest of the week.
Highly recommend if you're looking for top-tier baked goods.
Great bakery! Haven't had many Kouign Amann, so not sure if they are all this good but this was amazing. I like how they make sure it's served at the right temp. It was flaky, dense, soft & the exterior chewy a tiny bit in a good way. Also a great taste & balance of sweetness. Will definitely be back.
One of my favorite bakery finds over the past year was this little bakery on Avenue Mont-Royal.
Of course the thing to get is the treat that lends the bakery its name, the kouign amman- a flaky cake with a hard shell & soft interior hailing from Brittany. If you want to get a slice to enjoy, don't make the same mistake I did & order the'small/petit'- that would get you a small cake, which is still a rather large thing to eat in one sitting. Then again, there are many worse mistakes one could make.
The other heads up is that there's only seating for two or maybe three groups, so maybe plan on picking up something to enjoy on a picnic.
Love the pastries here! Initially got the Almond crossaint & this raisin/orange pinwheel. The almond crossaint was freshly made & was the highlight for me! Realized that the bakery is specialized in making Kouign-amann [thus the name lol] so i ordered a slice. It was very yummy but a little too heavy for me! My boyfriend very much enjoyed it though! Should def make this a stop if you are travelling to Montreal!
Located right on Mont Royal Avenue - one of my favorite pedestrian streets in Montréal - this bakery was a standout discovery. I've had kouign-amann before (at O Petit Paris in Montréal & even Dominique Ansel's bakery in New York City), but the one here is by far the best I've ever tasted.
The pastry is baked in a large round, almost like a pie, then cut into wedges to serve. The texture is exactly what you want: incredibly crispy on the outside, soft & tender inside. You can order a single slice for $3.25 CAD, a small round (about 6 servings) for $18 CAD, or a large (about 12 servings) for $33 CAD.
The shop is open Wednesday to Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. - so plan to arrive early before they sell out. The woman at the counter was very friendly & spoke both English & French, which made ordering simple.
They also offer a few other pastries (pain au chocolat, cinnamon roll, berry tart, plain croissant), but trust me - you come here for the kouign-amann. It's outstanding, & I highly recommend making a stop if you're in Montréal.

You know you've found the right bakery when the air smells like buttery heaven. Most people seemed to go for for their croissants (& yes, they're fantastic), but it surprises me how often the kouign amann gets overlooked. Their medium-sized version (about 6-7 portions) is something I could happily devour all on my own. It's rich & buttery, yet never feels heavy. I've never been to Brittany, but I imagine this is about as close to the real thing.
I wasn't too interested in another bakery. But one bite of the kouign amann had my partner & I coming back multiple days in a row. I've never had a better dessert - they're like a cross between croissants & custard. Immaculate 👌🏼
Pâtisserie Au Kouing Amann is one of the most memorable bakeries we have ever visited, & it deserves every bit of a 5-star rating. If you love pastries, this place is an absolute must. The moment you walk in, the air is filled with the rich, buttery aroma of freshly baked goods, & you know you're in for something special.
We tried their famous kouign amann, & it was perfection - beautifully caramelized on the outside, flaky & tender inside, with just the right balance of sweetness & butter. It's one of those pastries you remember long after you've finished eating. We also sampled a few other treats, & everything was consistently fresh & full of flavor.
The bakery itself has a cozy, authentic feel, & the staff were warm, welcoming, & happy to help with suggestions. You can tell they take pride in what they make. It's not a huge space, but it feels like a little hidden gem tucked into the heart of Montreal.
This place alone is worth a detour if you're visiting the city. I would come back in a heartbeat & highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates top-quality pastries. Easily one of the best bakery experiences in Canada!
I visited Kouign Amann Bakery in the heart of the Plateau with a good friend, & it was a delicious little escape. Their namesake pastry-the Kouign-amann-was perfectly caramelized & buttery, easily one of the best I've had. We also tried their croissants, impossibly light & flaky. It's a cozy spot with just a few tables, ideal for sharing pastries & good conversation. A true taste of Brittany!

My family has been to Montreal a couple times ( from USA) & it is now our tradition to buy a kouingaman pie from this bakery! It is flaky, buttery, with just the right amount of a sweetness for a most wonderful dessert pastry! This year we shared it with relatives in Montreal & they are now gonna be hooked with this delicious pastry!
Absolutely amazing!! I can't sing enough praises for Au Kouign Amann -- this petite, no-frills bakery is serving up some of the best pastries I've ever had. You, of course, have to get their signature item, the kouign amann. Unlike most kouign amanns you find in the US / Canada, they bake the full-size pastries & cut them into slices vs. making single-serving mini kouign amanns. This helps preserve the buttery, flaky texture in the center, while still highlighting the crunchy crust & sweet / savory syrup coating. The pastries are certainly sweet from the caramel, but they also have a great saltiness & savoriness from the salted butter; it's also extremely dense & will easily fill you up, so I'd recommend splitting it if you wanted to try anything / anywhere else.
I don't know if I'll ever make it to Brittany, but I feel like I've had an authentic taste of this classic pastry here; absolutely check out Au Kouign Amann if you're looking for a delicious, but slightly more unique, pastry in Montreal!
This kouign amann is the best I've ever had... Frankly, it might even be the best pastry I've ever had. Perfectly balanced sweetness with the salt from the butter, crunchy exterior with a soft & flavorful interior. Absolutely delicious straight out of the oven. It was so good I had to buy a whole one to bring home, & even still, I would go back to Montreal in an instant just for this bakery!
One of my best friends is a proud Bretonne who went to McGill with me, & she did not hesitate, after a couple bites of kouign amann from this place, to declare that it was ('somehow') better than the best kouign amann in Bretagne. I am not breton but I trust her, & frankly, I'm not even slightly exaggerating when I say that having lived in Montréal for half a decade, Kouign Amann Bakery is the thing that brings me most to Le Plateau; it gets me out of the door on sad days (even if I don't end up going, it's the idea that revives my soul)-it truly is my favourite dessert/pastry/sweet in the entire city.
This place is an institution, & I could not be more proud to live in the same city as it.
We made a quick pitstop here on our walk to La Banquise. This bakery was delicious 😋 Everything we tried was so buttery & perfectly not too sweet. I've never had a kouign amann that looked like a slice of pie but it was a welcome surprise because it was the best kouign amann I've ever had. I'd definitely come again.
Wow. What an absolutely amazing place. I have eaten every product of theirs & literally everything is amazing. Their croissants are gorgeous, as is their honey glazed tarte by the slice. All of the flavoured croissants (almond, cheese, & chocolate) are phenomenal. Their coffee is great
This seems to be a gem even for Montreal residents. Barely any that I spoke to have heard of it & yet it was my favourite bakery by far!
Cozy little bakery. The smell of butter once you enter is amazing. There is not much seating, & it gets filled up pretty quickly. We had a slice of kouing amann (butter cake), & I heard the angels sing. It was crispy on top but with a soft middle. Very fresh. I have to come back for the croissants &, of course, another slice of the kouing amann.
