About

Arepera specializes in the authentic preparation of corn-based flatbreads originating from Venezuelan culinary traditions. These signature pockets serve as versatile vessels for a wide array of savory fillings, including slow-cooked meats, seasoned black beans, and various white cheeses. The menu emphasizes traditional preparation techniques, ensuring that each toasted maize cake maintains a distinct texture and flavor profile. Vegetarian options feature prominently, utilizing fresh ingredients like plantains, avocado, and hearty legumes to create substantial meals. The dining environment focuses on efficiency and direct interaction with the griddle-focused cooking process. This establishment prioritizes the technical execution of staple Latin American street food, providing a focused selection of classic corn-based recipes. Guests encounter a straightforward approach to flavor that remains faithful to the artisanal roots of the regional cuisine found throughout Venezuela.

Review Summary

Arepera is widely celebrated as a standout destination in Montreal, particularly for its authentic Venezuelan cuisine and its commitment to being a entirely gluten free establishment. Many visitors, including those with celiac disease, praise the restaurant for providing a safe, relaxing, and worry free dining experience with a diverse menu that includes excellent arepas, empanadas, and flavorful vegan options. While the vast majority of guests highlight the fresh, generous portions, delicious sauces, and friendly service, occasional reports mention inconsistencies in service speed or minor issues with staff interactions. Overall, it remains a highly recommended spot for its vibrant atmosphere, reasonable prices, and consistent ability to deliver flavorful, high quality street food.

The ambience is great. The pork empanadas are too good - must try. The arepas are also nice, quite filling.

Really enjoyed this spot as a gluten free visitor to MTL - plantain (amazing), casava sticks & pork belly sandwich, complimented with a shot of mezcal… can't ask for too much more than that

Excellent food.
I was hesitant about going to a gluten free restaurant but my sister is celiac. & I am so glad we did!
Everything was great!
I highly recommend the Empanadas.
We also had the pork belly platter & the pork & avocado sandwich. Fed the 3 of nicely (though if another empanada was there I would have gladly taken it down.)

I had a guarapita & my sister had the non alcoholic cane sugar & lime, both were lovely. My nephew had water & they kept on top of filling up the water.

I had such a great experience at Arepera & will definitely be coming back. As someone with celiac disease, it can be stressful finding places that are truly safe to eat at, but their 100% gluten-free menu made this such a relaxing & enjoyable visit. It's honestly rare to be able to order freely without second-guessing anything, & I really appreciated that.

The menu has a great variety of options, especially when it comes to arepas & empanadas. There were so many different flavor combinations to choose from, & everything sounded amazing. I also loved that they offer fresh juices, which added a really nice touch to the meal.

Everything we ordered came out quickly & at the perfect temperature. You could tell right away that the food was made fresh. I had the beef & cheddar cheese arepa, the cheese empanadas, a guava juice, & the coconut flan for dessert. Every single item was delicious, affordable, well-seasoned, fresh, & cooked perfectly. The arepa was especially satisfying & filling, & the flan was a great way to end the meal.

The service was also excellent. Our server was very polite, kind, & attentive, & gave some really helpful recommendations when we were deciding what to order. It made the whole experience feel even more welcoming.

Overall, this is a fantastic spot whether you're gluten-free or not. Highly recommend checking it out!

We love these arepas, with a huge variety between meat, fish & vegan (the black beans, plantain & avocado is my favorite!). Naturally gluten-free (made with corn), this is a perfect meal out if you cannot eat gluten. Enjoy!
