I've visited this place twice already. The first time was with my boyfriend-we sat at the bar & had an amazing time. The second time, I went with my family, & they loved the cocktails. The service wasn't as good during our second visit, as I had to get up & ask for water for the table, but I understand-it was very busy.
This is truly a speakeasy. The entrance looks like a regular exit door: no name, just a ring, which I found fun, since the whole point of a speakeasy is that it's hard to find. Once they open the door, you go down the stairs & enter the bar through another door that almost looks like a cold-room door.
The place is simple, with brick walls, but they serve some of the most amazing cocktails I've tried in Montreal. The menu is adorable, with duck illustrations & well-detailed descriptions. My favorite drinks were Death Mark, Rice to Meet You, Internal Affairs, & Joe Peachi.
I'll definitely come back on my next trip to Montreal.
Great spot if you find the entrance lol also dress lightly which might be an oxymoron given is Montréal in December 😆
The entrance was admittedly a little hard to find as it was an inconspicuous black door tucked away in the corner that required guests to be buzzed in. That aside, The Coldroom was an excellent speakeasy with cozy atmosphere topped up with great drinks that all add up to shape the perfect night.
Typical speakeasy with the hidden entrance next to El Pequeno. Creative cocktails were complex & unique.
Really cool speakeasy craft cocktail bar with very skilled bartenders. It can be a little hard to find, but all you do is ring a doorbell & wait for staff to come & add you to a waitlist. In the meantime there is a pre-bar to the main bar next to the entrance.
I got the Smoking Gun, Joe Peachi, & then an Espresso Martini. & my sister & I both got their long sleeve T-shirts. They're all balanced & decorated well. The menu also has descriptions for each drink. & they have some non-alcoholic mocktails too!
It's got a very cozy vibe despite the juxtaposition of a boiler room/cellar aesthetic, & the bathrooms are pretty cool!
Also, I pulled Narita Brian in Uma Musume during her banner event with one roll, so you know this is a lucky spot! Definitely coming back next time I'm in Montreal & gets a big recommendation for all my Mixology friends.
One of our favorite speakeasies in Montreal. Secret entrance way (press the bell & wait patiently!), friendly servers, creative cocktail menu, & a very'cool' vibe - the perfect mix for a speakeasy!
Each drink is unique in its taste & presentation…it is always fun to try them all or just name your flavor note & the bartender can come up with a surprise.
Damn! this place is awesome. That hidden entrance is lit tho..
Be there early otherwise wait time is too long sometimes.
Atmosphere: 7.5/10
Tucked away in Old Montreal, The Coldroom is a true speakeasy with an unmarked entrance & cellar-like vibe. The space feels like a wine cave meets cocktail den - casual & dim, with a long bar counter & multiple group seating areas. Music was slightly too loud, but still manageable for short conversations.
Drinks: 6/10
Recommendation: Sallerac
The menu is themed around a fictional 1970s Montreal rubber duck squat - playful, creative, & packed with personality. Each drink includes its flavor profile, ingredients, & glassware shape, making it easy to navigate. While the menu concept stands out, the drinks themselves fall a bit flat. Presentation is minimal, with no garnish, & the bar uses below-average glassware & no coasters.
Service: 8.5/10
Water was served on arrival. The team was friendly & attentive throughout. Prices are average for Montreal, with a balance between standard cocktails & more premium, exotic options that are fairly priced.
This was the first speakeasy I've been too & I love the concept. The entrance is super cool & discreet, you just need to be patient for someone to let you in. The atmosphere & lighting were perfect & the server was very helpful. We were looking forward to trying the grilled cheese as well, but the person wasn't there to make them, maybe next time! My mocktail tasted great though, definitely recommend checking this place out.
Super cool entrance, love the mood. One cocktail took more than 30 min to be served & we had to leave, unfortunately.
cool secret bar, found it by accident (saw people standing in line at the bar next door, also stood in line, turned out that this was the entrance to the "coldroom", great atmosphere, nice & pleasant bartenders, helped to choose suitable drinks for each of my friends, fast service, you can take a jelly candy from the bar (a small thing but nice) the menu is quite large (only cocktails) there are a couple of non-alcoholic ones $ 13-15, all the rest start from $ 17, different strengths, to be honest there are small minuses: 1. stuffiness, we were sitting in the bar in the basement & it was too warm there, it felt like there was not enough fresh air. 2. the volume of the music is disproportionate to the area of the room, from which your ears & throat quickly begin to hurt, since it is difficult to communicate with the interlocutor when you can not hear yourself. But if this does not bother you, & you want to pleasantly end the evening, this place is ideal
