One of our favorite speakeasies in Montreal. Secret entrance way (press the bell & wait patiently!), friendly servers, creative cocktail menu, & a very'cool' vibe - the perfect mix for a speakeasy!
Each drink is unique in its taste & presentation…it is always fun to try them all or just name your flavor note & the bartender can come up with a surprise.
They have amazing coktails & the atmosphere is very nice, one of my favorite speakeasy
Absolutely best combination of bar & speakeasy. I love how it gets crowded & loud. The bar has space for a lot of people. To find the door, the best experience for us was to take place jacques cartier & then go on st amable. The street is beautiful & we had fun exploring & looking around. The drinks are so smart with the duck characters & they are delicious! The drinks are reasonably priced considering average prices of cocktails. & I loved their olive plate. Overall, such a good find. Did not think I would ever like a bar in the old port so much.
Superbe speakeasy.
Atmosphere: 7.5/10
Tucked away in Old Montreal, The Coldroom is a true speakeasy with an unmarked entrance & cellar-like vibe. The space feels like a wine cave meets cocktail den - casual & dim, with a long bar counter & multiple group seating areas. Music was slightly too loud, but still manageable for short conversations.
Drinks: 6/10
Recommendation: Sallerac
The menu is themed around a fictional 1970s Montreal rubber duck squat - playful, creative, & packed with personality. Each drink includes its flavor profile, ingredients, & glassware shape, making it easy to navigate. While the menu concept stands out, the drinks themselves fall a bit flat. Presentation is minimal, with no garnish, & the bar uses below-average glassware & no coasters.
Service: 8.5/10
Water was served on arrival. The team was friendly & attentive throughout. Prices are average for Montreal, with a balance between standard cocktails & more premium, exotic options that are fairly priced.
Great speakeasy in old Montreal. Once you manage to find your way inside the service was amazing & thr cocktails delicious.
We visited the Cold room last night & loved it. Such a nice speakeasy with great cocktails. The staff members were very welcoming & made it a great experience. One of them even wrote a card with recommendations for our stay in Montreal. Thank you so much.
The Coldroom provides a great speakeasy experience! Drinks were delicious & quite complex tasting. We had the following drinks: Rice to Meet You, The Musket & The Cold fashion. The mixiologists were great & very friendly! My partner also got a hoodie to remember the experience! I highly recommend you to go, ring the bell & wait a bit! It'll be worth your while!
Keep your eyes open for the duck above the door outside, ring the door bell & you're suddenly transported to a prohibition era speakeasy. The cocktail list & whiskey selection are intricate & well crafted. Whether at the bar counter or at a table, the service is always fantastic & we always have a good time with the staff.
There is usually a wait list especially on weekends but that's to be expected. It also gets pretty warm down in the basement during the summer which could be uncomfortable for some.
Make sure to try the severely underated grilled cheese with bourbon butter!
Overall this is my favourite bar to recommend to friends & tourists. It's one of the best bars in Montreal, you won't be disappointed!
Classic speakeasy.
Reasonably priced drinks & amazing service.
Perfect vibe. Music wasn't too loud & you could carry a conversation even with it being about 50% full.
Drinks are subjective but their take on the old fashion was a chef's kiss
The friendliest trendy speakeasy I've ever been to. Told the bartender my spirit of choice & the flavor I felt like & he worked his magic. Will return.
Loved visiting this speakeasy. Tried a few cocktails & think the shotgun wedding is the best craft cocktail I have had in a second. There was a waitlist to get in, but it was not too long.
My experience at the Cold Room speakeasy in Old Montreal was nothing short of phenomenal. This hidden gem consistently exceeds my expectations, making each visit a memorable one. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance envelops you in a warm, inviting atmosphere that perfectly blends vintage charm with modern flair. The dim lighting, plush seating, & thoughtfully curated decor create an intimate setting that feels both exclusive & welcoming. The drinks are where Cold Room truly shines. Each cocktail is skillfully crafted with meticulous attention to detail & a clear passion for mixology. I highly recommend trying their signature Cold Fashion; it's a delightful twist on the classic old-fashioned that showcases their innovative approach to cocktail making. The balance of flavors is impeccable, making each sip a true pleasure. The service at Cold Room is equally superb. The staff is knowledgeable, attentive, & genuinely enthusiastic about the offerings, adding to the overall enjoyment of your visit. Whether you're a cocktail connoisseur or simply looking for a cozy spot to unwind, Cold Room delivers top-notch experiences every time.
This was the first speakeasy I've been too & I love the concept. The entrance is super cool & discreet, you just need to be patient for someone to let you in. The atmosphere & lighting were perfect & the server was very helpful. We were looking forward to trying the grilled cheese as well, but the person wasn't there to make them, maybe next time! My mocktail tasted great though, definitely recommend checking this place out.
Milee was great! I didn't love the first cocktail I ordered & she replaced it without me even asking. We had an awesome experience with a true speakeasy feel. We'll 100% be back whenever we're in Montreal. (P.S. order the olives! You get a ton & they're the perfect drink accompaniment)
Very nice speakeasy bar, it's a little bit hard to find but definitely worth the effort. Great atmosphere & drinks!
A unique experience at The Cold Room! As a true speakeasy, finding it was quite a challenge, which adds to its charm. The key is to look for a black door with an emergency exit sign featuring a rubber duck. Ring the bell & wait... it's worth it! The cocktails were well-crafted, but what really impressed me was the extensive selection of whiskeys, especially Canadian ones. The place was spotless, very professional service, & although the prices are on the higher side, the quality makes up for it. Definitely a spot to return to!
When I arrived at the set address for a friend's birthday, I got lost & ended up in the smallest bar restaurant in Montreal! So one thing about The Coldroom, is that it maintains the essence of what it means to be a speakeasy! When we arrived, we were escorted to our seats by our server for the night, our server was quick, efficient & told us all we needed to know about speakeasy culture an the menu items for the night. I opted for a drink similar to a Bloody Mary & I thoroughly enjoyed it! The snacks on the other had were just okay. The atmosphere was lovely & it's definitely a place I would return to with friends!
