Was asked if we wanted to order a drink while waiting for a table or a seat at the bar which was weird. Once at the bar we ordered cocktails. The wrong cocktails were brought which we didn't realize. The waiter said we could keep them but the bartender was making us our original drinks. If we decided to keep the wrong drinks they would charge us. We got the new drinks which were not good. Peche Malone was like drinking pure butterscotch schnapps. Avoid this place & hit up the Cloakroom!
Yikes, my team & I fell into a speak easy in Old Montreal!
Louis our bartender was amazing!
Great vibe, cool drinks, fun bartenders, all the planets align! Come down & join the funk!
You ring the door at the'secret entrance' & someone opens the door for you. The dude looked serious but it is part of the experience. The bartenders are amazing with great knowledge & repertoire. The drinks are great & they have the perfect snacks. Part of the magic is when you're drunk & you get kicked out & wow where am I? Suddenly at the'Rue Saint-Paul'. Amazing experience!
Would have loved to leave a full review on everything from drinks to ambiance, but unfortunately were stopped at the door. After ringing the bell, we were told they were on a wait. We put our name on the waitlist & gave the hostess our contact information, & when pressed for a timeframe, we were told'it's hard to say,' which was frustrating, especially knowing that the industry standard is to always give a time range even something as absurd as anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour. We waited with increasing frustration as party after party were allowed entrance while we were overlooked. I rationalized that some of these people were already on the waitlist ahead of us & must have received a call or text that their seats were available, however there were others let in that clearly didnt know where the doorbell was as it was their first time visiting. After waiting for over 45 minutes, we left the area. During our wait, the hostess saw us sitting there several times but didnt give us any updates, & was seen darting in & out of the side entrance as she left her station & had to rush back to answer the doorbell which took away from the mystery of the speakeasy. Even after we left, we received no updates, not even to let us know that they would not be able to accomodate us before the bar closed. This has lead me to believe one of four conclusions: 1) the hostess is incompetent 2) bar's standards of hospitality are below that of the industry standard 3) we were dressed inappropriately for the venue, in which case we should have been informed of the dress code (although there were others allowed entry who were dressed as casually as we were) 4) we were discriminated against by, nationality, ethnicity, or sexuality (in which case management needs to adress these issues with their staff).
Vibes & everything was absolutely top tier!!! Staff, drinks, service everything was great. Shout out to Nico for getting us in & Ben for taking care of us! Thanks for the lovely night!
The Coldroom was such a fun & memorable speakeasy experience in Montréal. The hidden entrance, intimate atmosphere, & stylish décor made the place feel special from the moment we walked in. The cocktails were creative, beautifully presented, & expertly made, with plenty of unique flavors beyond the usual bar menu.
The bartenders & staff were friendly, knowledgeable, & made the experience even more enjoyable. It's a great place for a relaxed evening, a date night, or drinks with friends while exploring Old Montréal. Definitely worth visiting for the atmosphere & inventive cocktails!
A very cool hidden speakeasy that's definitely worth checking out if you're in Montreal. We visited as part of a Friday night bar hop & only had to wait around 15 minutes to get in, which wasn't bad considering how popular it is.
Finding the entrance is part of the fun, & the separate exit adds to the mystery. Once inside, the dark, intimate atmosphere makes it a great spot for a quiet drink, a date night, or a catch up with friends.
The cocktails were excellent & well crafted, & there are a few nibbles available if you're feeling hungry. Prices were also very reasonable for the quality.
I'd recommend it for couples or smaller groups of up to four or five people, as the cosy setting suits a more intimate experience. Definitely one of the more unique bars we visited in Montreal.
Wow! What a disappointment. Our tour guide recommended this place & we were excited to go & experience this hidden speakeasy. Waitress took forever to take our drink order & there was only four other people in the bar! Waited another ten minutes & the angry looking bartender was busy smoozing up to the only other couple sitting at the bar. Drinks are approximately 25 dollars a pop just an fyi & you would expect service to be top notch! Would skip this poorly run basement rip off!
