Review Summary

Overall, reviews describe Sushi Yasu as a place with fresh ingredients, authentic flavors, and careful preparation that deliver a true Japanese experience, with a warm family style atmosphere and attentive service appreciated by many; the menu is praised for variety and good value, with favorites like sashimi, nigiri, bento boxes, grilled eel, wagyu and uni, and rice often praised for balance and quality. Some comments note occasional drawbacks such as cramped seating, longer waits when busy, and inconsistent timing between appetizers and mains, as well as critiques of overly vinegared rice or a few dishes not meeting expectations; however these concerns do not overshadow generally strong impressions and many say it is among the best sushi options in town, worth a return visit especially if a reservation is made. Takeout is also common and practical, and the overall sentiment is positive about the experience.

I have been going to this sushi place for over 20 years. Just recently went back & it’s as amazing as it’s always been. Food is fantastic, great prices & variety. All freshly made on-site in front of you. Service is great. Very friendly staff. The place was full as per usual. I highly recommend.

A well kept secret:

One of the most authentic Japanese restaurants in the Montreal area. It takes some curiosity & a good deal of temerity to discover this gem of a sushi restaurant, buried in an anonymous parking lot of the Boulevard Rome. But the trip is highly rewarding! You find yourself in a true Japanese enclave in the South Bank. No wonder if, for prominent Japanese visitors, Montreal has two genuine sushi addresses, the outstanding but expensive Jun-I, & here. It is also my opinion. The all-Japanese ownership & cooks make sure that you will be served the freshest fish sashimi, & sushi offer the uncompromising Japanese taste & quality, that no other sushi bar in Montreal, else than Jun-I can match. Other Japanese dishes are of the same level.
Prices are reasonable, providing for a nonpareil value for money. Although simple, the decor & atmosphere are friendly & comfortable.
Highly recommended
