Decent sushi spot with good quality, but quite expensive for what you get. For one combo, a few sashimi, & two beers, the bill came to around $140, which feels high considering the small portion sizes & roll thickness. Service was polite, but the wait time was long (around 30 minutes), likely due to limited staff. Overall okay, but could offer better value & faster service.
The highlight for me was definitely the food, everything tasted incredibly authentic, with fresh ingredients & perfectly balanced flavors that really captured a true Japanese experience. Each dish felt carefully crafted & high quality.
The service was outstanding as well. The staff were attentive & very accommodating, especially with our baby, which made the visit even more enjoyable.
The atmosphere was warm & welcoming, with a nice family-oriented feel that made us feel comfortable throughout.
Overall, a fantastic spot if you're looking for authentic sushi with amazing food as the star. Would definitely come back!
We like coming to the place, they have solid quality of sushi & a hearty Japanese pancake. What we wish is their hospitality to be improved, it's a Japanese restaurant, after all. Apparently in the end, they wanted us to finish & leave asap, & we could understand that. But the manner in which a waiter expressed her request was nothing close to Japanese cultural code. She threw her torso on the table & started grabbing plates & utensils, mumbling in the end that the next reservation is up… this kind of spoiled the impression from the food. We hope that it was just an unfortunate accident.
If you are looking to get great sushi, no nonsense & no small chit chat from its wait staff, this is the place for you. The place is jam packed with patrons when we got there on a weekend at 6 p.m. The smart thing to do is make reservations ahead of time & you can access that through their web site. No reservations would result in a long wait.
We were seated immediately when we got in on the dot. The menu is extensive & the prices are reasonable. We opted to add the extra add-on to the entree for an additional $9.00. The add-on menu comes with a salad of your choice, an appetizer of your choice, & dessert after your entree is served.
The sunomono salad is lovely & the miso soup is silky & delicious. We tried the agedashi tofu, the vegetable tempura, & the croquette. We had initially wanted to try the pork & shrimp spring roll but they were sold out. Not disappointing as the other appetizers are delicious & in generous portions.
The chirashi bowls are beautifully presented & the selection of fish is very fresh. The sushi platter is also very nicely displayed & scrumptious.
We ended our meals with ice-cream.
Definitely worth another visit since the food quality is wonderful. The wait staff could be a tad friendlier but understandable that they just want the customers to just eat & go. Go check them out.
Customer service needs to be improved in this restaurant. Upon arrival, it took 5 minutes to be greeted by a server who asked if we had made a reservation. When we said no reservation, she told us that we had to wait for 30 minutes or longer. Then we decided to order a takeout of sushi & maki combo for 2 people. Food was nothing special, just ordinary. There are better places to eat good quality sushi in Montreal.
Sushi Yasu left much to be desired. The service lacked empathy & felt cold, making the whole experience unwelcoming, rushing our orders just making us feel like we gotta finish it asap. Food quality was average at best, nothing stood out or justified the hype.
The combo promised & didn't deliver the flavours & mix, just plain rice & veggiess someone who truly supports local businesses, it's disappointing to say I won't be returning. It simply doesn't earn more than 3 stars in my book.

Much better quality than most places we've been in on the island of Montreal. It's very family-friendly & everything is tasty. You can indulge with some fatty belly tuna or wagyu without it feeling too fancy or pretentious.

Each piece is prepared with care, & you can taste the attention to detail in every bite. The variety of rolls is impressive, offering both classic options & unique creations that cater to all tastes. The service is friendly & attentive, making for an all-around fantastic dining experience. If you're a sushi lover or simply in the mood for high-quality Japanese food, Yasu Sushi is the place to go. Fantastic restaurant that I have been to countless times. Each & every time, the food was delicious & the service was friendly both during lunch times & dinner times. The food does get pricey for dinner, especially if you plan to only eat sushi, but I believe the quality is worth the price. Lunch time is a lot more affordable & still offers a decent selection.
