Review Summary

Overall, reviews consistently celebrate St-Viateur Bagel for fresh, hot, chewy Montreal style bagels and a wide range of bagel sandwiches and toppings, with many calling it a must visit and the best bagels in North America. The bagels are repeatedly described as coming straight from the oven, soft on the inside with a satisfying crust on the outside, and several flavors such as sesame and smoked salmon bagels receive high praise. While the product is the star, service quality varies: some visits feature friendly, efficient staff and quick lines, others note slower service or moments of rudeness, especially during busy times. The cafe atmosphere is described as welcoming and casual, with the aroma of baking bagels drawing people in, though parking can be tight and crowds can form. Location variety matters too, with some spots offering dine in and coffee, while others emphasize takeout bagels and deli items; still, the overall impression remains that the bagels themselves are consistently fresh, flavorful, and addictive. Repeat customers stock up when passing through, and the sandwiches especially those with cream cheese and salmon are frequently highlighted as excellent. In short, St-Viateur Bagel is widely regarded for high quality, handmade bagels that define the Montreal bagel experience, with a few caveats about service consistency and space during peak times.

Kind staff with good service! Cool to see how the bagels were made. They tasted very good! Nice variety of souvenirs as well.

Traditional salmon bagel was really good! Steak bagel is alright, great portion but the mustard was a lot & kind of throws it off.

The best smoked salmon bagel I've ever had in my life.

We also ordered 12 bagels to take home. All the staff at the cafe counter & bagel counter were super friendly. Thanks for everything!

St-Viateur Bagels are awesome, but in the downtown/original location you can only get bagels & spreads in a container. At this location you can get hot bagels as they are constantly making fresh bagels, so generally you can always get a warm batch. This location has a sandwich area & the Bagel & Lox (salmon) is a solid choice. Convenient location just off the highway.

Yummy! Recommend to buy salmon dips to go with this fresh bagel.

Stopped in for lunch & take home bagels. Ordered the typical bagel sandwich with salmon, cream cheese, tomatoes, onions & capers. Excellent!!! The bagel definitely met my expectations.

Service was fast & friendly. There was a variety of bagel sandwiches, salads & soups. I had the smoked salmon & I was not disappointed, it was fresh & bountiful! Also purchased fresh baked bagels to take home.
My first stop when I come back to Montreal.

Went here on Christmas Eve. Service was amazing. The two ladies that took my order were great at making recommendations. All staff here were very warm & welcoming. Tried the salmon bagel as this is what a friend had recommended. Also tried the jaws bagel which basically has a tuna filling. Enjoyed our breakfast. Really cool seeing the bagels getting made & really cool that there is a separate sections to place your order depending on your needs. Coffee was great. Would come here again for the coffee. It's our first time in Montreal coming from London. If you're a fellow Brit reading this, I'd recommend coming here if you're missing the English high street. Coffee is on par to cafe Nero. The tuna bagel is like a Greg's tuna baguette. The salmon one is similar to what we get at home. The bagels are crispy unlike the soft dense ones we are use to In London. Glad to have visited was comparatively a bit expensive. Service was amazing.

The bagels are super fresh, but if you order a sandwich from the restaurant, it's ridiculously expensive for skimpy servings of cream cheese & smoked salmon. The coffee is really bad.

As someone who eats bagels in new york it takes a lot to impress me. Well, the bagels here were okay - but what really impressed me was the quality of the other items (salmon, vegan cream cheese, coffee) - not to mention the service. Friendly, quick & genuine.
