St-Viateur Bagel delivers an authentic culinary staple defined by the traditional Montreal-style bagel process. Each batch undergoes a meticulous transformation starting with a honey-infused water boil before achieving a golden, blistered crust inside a wood-fired oven. This specific preparation method creates a dense, chewy interior that remains the hallmark of the brand's enduring reputation for quality. Patrons encounter a wide selection of hand-rolled dough variations, ranging from classic sesame and poppy seed to more textured options like rosemary or everything seasoning. The environment maintains a functional focus on the production and distribution of these artisanal goods. Freshly baked inventory serves as the primary component for various prepared spreads and accompaniments available on-site. This establishment upholds the rigorous standards synonymous with high-volume, wood-fired bagel production through consistent technique and reliable ingredient sourcing.
St-Viateur Bagel is widely celebrated for its fresh, wood-fired bagels, which are consistently praised for their authentic texture, quality ingredients, and delicious flavor. Many customers consider these to be the best bagels in Montreal or even Canada, frequently making it a mandatory stop while traveling. While the product quality is rarely questioned, guest feedback regarding the service and facility maintenance varies significantly. Some visitors describe the staff as kind and efficient, noting memorable interactions and helpful service, while others have reported experiences with slower wait times, dismissive attitudes, or concerns regarding cleanliness in the dining areas. Despite occasional complaints about parking at certain locations or the rising price of goods, the overall consensus remains that the fresh, warm bagels and high-quality sandwich options provide a superior culinary experience that keeps locals and tourists returning.
The bagels are always fresh & straight out of the oven. I also love that they open very early, making it easy to grab delicious, freshly baked bagels first thing in the morning! 😊
It's a bagel shop. A good bagel shop. Bagels are delicious, fresh, & when bought warm from the wood oven you can eat them without a topping. I will always go to St.Viateur, I used to go to St. Laurent Bagels across the street from Schwartz's but that closed down & that was the best ever Bagels & good bakery. I have a couple of observations about St. Viateur though: 1) the Bagels are more doughy, I mean a bit fatter, no not like the thick new york Bagels but certainly more'meaty' than the traditional Montreal bagel. 2) they don't have well trained barristas; they can use the machine well enough but the coffee is mid at best. Other than that, all good. Fix the Bagels or i'll have to go to kettleman's.

I was warmly greeted & placed my order for some sesame bagels. They were fresh out of the oven & delicious. Prefer these over Fairmount bagels & have been eating them for a long time. Highly recommended.
I went there with a concern & the gentleman that took care of me was warm, kind & informative. The bagels that I received were fresh, warm from their oven. After today's experience, I will go back
A cozy little place that's great for a quick lunch. I highly recommend trying their bagels fresh out of the oven - they're warm & extremely soft. Definitely worth a try if you're nearby.
Their bagel sandwiches were not bad but the bagel for those sandwiches didn't taste as good as the plain ones straight from the oven.
Overall, a nice spot with good bagels, especially when they're fresh.
St-Viateur Bagel & Café DDO offers a truly authentic Montreal bagel experience. Walking in early morning, you're greeted by the irresistible aroma of freshly baked bagels, still warm from the wood-fired oven. What We Loved: Freshness: The bagels here are the real deal. Chewy on the inside, perfectly crisp on the outside, with that signature hint of sweetness. They're best enjoyed right out of the oven, & St-Viateur delivers on that front. Variety: Beyond the classic poppy & sesame, they offer a delightful range of flavors. Everything from all-dressed to rosemary & sea salt, there's something to satisfy every bagel craving. Cream Cheese: Their cream cheese selection is equally impressive, with flavors like scallion & herb complementing the bagels beautifully. Coffee: A perfect pairing for your bagel, their coffee is rich & flavorful, providing that essential morning pick-me-up. Ambiance: The café has a cozy & inviting atmosphere. It's a great spot to relax with a newspaper & a warm bagel, or catch up with friends. Points to Consider: Popularity: St-Viateur is a popular spot, especially on weekends. Be prepared for a potential wait, but trust us, it's worth it. Parking: Parking can be a bit limited in the area, so plan accordingly. Overall: St-Viateur Bagel & Café DDO is a must-visit for bagel lovers in the West Island. Their commitment to quality & freshness shines through in every bite. Whether you're a Montreal native or just visiting, a morning at St-Viateur is a delicious way to start your day.
