cash(73) fresh(63) cheese(60) sandwich(59) sandwiches(56) recommend(45) traditional(43) sesame(40) debit(32) cafe(32) to go(29) salmon(28)THIS IS A CASH ONLY ESTABLISHMENT (Canadian OR US cash) They also take Canadian Debit cards (?) - there is some sort of debit card system but not for foreign cards. Secondly - if you want bagel sandwiches this is the only location that does it. The original St. Viateur bagel location on Rue St. Viateur DOES not do sandwiches. Overall, I thought the bagel was okay - we were told to ask to order whatever was the freshest bagel, for us that was the sesame. It was cool to see them hand rolling the bagels. The bagels are not warm for the sandwiches. I thought the traditional bagel sandwich (smoked salmon, cream cheese, capers) was alright - honestly felt like the bagel was missing flavoring (likely salt). The line outside wasn't too long, maybe took about 20 minutes to get inside & sit & eat. Not terrible. There are two lines outside, the one to the right (when facing the door) is for takeout bagels ONLY (no sandwiches) the one on the left is for sandwiches & sitting in the restaurant (can also do takeout, but you still need to stand on the line to the left). Last note, if you are HUNGRY these bagels are quite light. You can definitely eat more than one if you want to be full.
There is a reason this place is legendary- the bagels are in a different league. It was a busy Saturday morning, so we did have a few minute wait out front to get a sit down table, but the staff were friendly, didn't make us feel rushed, & the'classic' bagel delivered. This place should be on your'must try' list if you are visiting Montreal.
Best bagels in the world. Sesame bagel is our favorite as a family. Food: incredible - try the blt with hot smoked cream cheese vs mayo, original sandwich good as well, everything is great, super fresh Service: friendly Atmosphere: cute rustic bakery vibez
I thought that St-Viateur would be a lot better given all the reviews & videos I had seen prior to my trip to Montréal. The bagel was okay, but nothing special, especially for how expensive it was. I wouldn't return the next time I'm in Montréal. There is much better food to try around the city. I do like that they have an efficient system for getting people in & out of the restaurant comfortably & quickly. That was the highlight of the visit.
Excellent bagels. Line out the door was too long so I just got bagels takeaway. Maple apple was not too sweet & sesame was delicious! The bagels have a slightly chewy texture & are not dry at all. Wish all bagels were like this.
Overrated. Merely a local icon. Don't hold high expectations for the food itself.
I always come back here for some OG Montréal bagels. It gets busy during the afternoon, so I would recommend going there earlie
I was just so shocked when I looked at the line in front of the restaurant. I waited nearly an hour to get the bagel but when I had the first bite, I knew exactly why it is so famous. I got the all dressed bagel but sesame bagel is one of the most popular bagels. From what I know, this bagel place is one of the oldest in town & serves fresh bagels. This place is worth the hype. Must visit when you go to Montreal.
An institution in Montreal & a spot I have to visit each time or I will tweak. Great value for good quality bagels. Lines can get quite long so do your best to get there before the morning rush. Overall, a must visit. Take a dozen or two home with you. Freeze them for longevity or to use them as a flail, your call. Regardless, these are my go-to bagels. & their bagel sandwiches? Respect that schmear, they pile on that cream cheese, sensational.
The bagels are not that good & it's mainly a tourist trap, I don't understand why so many people were lining up!
St-Viateur Bagel is the hot Montreal bagel destination. Really good, multiple locations, just be prepared to wait in line to get in, line moves decently quick though. I got the ricotta fig jam sandwich & I personally thought it was lacking a key flavor element. The fig jam overpowered the ricotta. It was still good, but the bagel was the highlight & not so much the sandwich ingredients. The St-Viateur Bagel locations only take cash but they accept USD or Canadian cash or Canadian debit. You can skip the wait line if you're just going to pick up a bag of bagels vs eating there. I brought home myself 6 bagels in my new St Viateur Bagel tote ✨
