Review Summary

Sakura is widely regarded as a quaint, authentic, and traditional Japanese dining destination that offers a nostalgic, old-school atmosphere reminiscent of the Showa era. Many guests praise the delicious quality of the food, particularly the bento boxes, sukiyaki, and sashimi, noting that the service is often friendly and welcoming. While the establishment is frequently described as a hidden gem with a cozy, comfortable environment, experiences can be inconsistent. Some patrons have pointed out concerns regarding pricing, portion accuracy, or the quality of certain menu items like the poke bowl, and occasionally mention that service speed or responsiveness to feedback could be improved. Despite these mixed remarks, the restaurant remains a long-standing favorite for those seeking a comforting, authentic Japanese culinary experience in a unique, retro setting.

Quaint Japanese restaurant about 350m from the Bell Centre. It's located on the 2nd floor at the intersection of Stanley & Cypress so there are some stairs to climb. It's right next to the Italian restaurant & the signage isn't as obvious so you might miss it. Had the Bento du jour, which was quite generous in its servings. The fried tofu was pretty good, & the teriyaki salmon was a good serving served on a bed of rice. It came with 3 pieces of sushi & 4 California rolls that were very good. I enjoyed the small spring roll it came with as it was a different flavour to the fish pieces. The tempura was nice & light & the skewer of teriyaki chicken was very flavourful. Not shown in the picture but also included was a bowl of miso soup, salad & a dessert that included a scoop of green tea ice cream & a cup of hot green tea. Pretty good value bento box! Super friendly older lady was serving everyone & I was surprised they weren't busier. I wasn't sure how big the bento box would be so ordered a spicy salmon roll & 2 pieces of spicy tuna, both were great!

Repas soupe udon était difficile à emporter, mais tout était bon, copieux & pas cher pour le centre-ville.

Loved every single thing I ate there from the tasty miso soup to the incredible sushis. You can feel the thoughtfulness & quality in every single dish. The portion sizing was perfect for me. I took the combo of sushi makis & I found that the price was very reasonable for what I was getting which was quality & tasty food that didn't leave you feeling heavy or lethargic afterwards. Waiting time for our food didn't take long & as one dish was done, the other dish was coming in so I'd say the service was super smooth & it definitely helped with the overall pleasant restaurant experience. I'd definitely come back here, super happy to have found this gem of a place!

This might have been the single best sushi experience I have had in Montreal. The lunch combo I ordered came with miso soup, small salad, tempura, sashimi, nigiri, hoso & futo Maki's, green tea & ice cream. The miso soup was cloudly, perfectly hot & flavorful. The tempura included shrimp, zucchini, eggplant & sweet potato all expertly fried, light & had no greasiness to them at all. The sashimi was a good variety of tuna, salmon & snapper. All of which were fresh & clean tasting. The nigiri were very well prepared with perfectly seasoned rice & wasabi used in the perfect proportion. Rolls were varied & balanced with different textures & flavors. The meal was finished off with hot tea & green tea ice cream. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The meal was paced very well by the waiter & it was nice to feel so taken care of. Including a diet coke, all this was had for the incredible price of $34.49 including taxes. For the quality of the food & the experience, I cannot recommend Sakura enough.
