The menu is inventive and seasonally driven, with standout bites such as beef tongue, beef tartare, duck, trout, chicken liver pate, and panisse that many describe as memorable. The atmosphere, from the design to the lively yet intimate energy, is repeatedly highlighted as a major plus, perfect for a date or a small group. Some notes mention price and value, occasional unevenness across dishes, and cocktails that feel expensive for the portion, but most reviews agree that Limbo delivers strong quality, creativity, and service. Overall the reviews portray Limbo as a top pick in its neighborhood with a welcoming, energetic vibe and consistently delicious food that invites a return visit.
I came to this restaurant on a Wednesday night as part of a belated birthday celebration, driving in from NYC. As luck would have it, my Airbnb accommodations fell through last minute & I needed to bring my dog in order to make the reservation. Restaurant Limbo changed our seating to outdoors with zero issue or stress.
As non French speakers, our server Mathilde translated our menu for us in great detail. She gave serving size suggestions & recommended n/a beverages that were great. She truly made must feel confident in our ordering process.
Coming from nyc (& working in a Michelin restaurant myself), Restaurant Limbo set the bar high as our first Montreal dining experience. We tried several courses but the standouts included the Panisse, the Lamb Tartare, & the Morilles. All so flavorful & coursed beautifully. Conor also came to our table to check in & made our dessert recommendation knowing that we were looking for something light.
We finished off our meal with Oeuf à la neige- a merengue with cream & rhubarb. It might have been my favorite dish of the entire evening. So light & the perfect ending to a fantastic dining experience.
If you're looking for an overpriced one-bite tasting experience, this is the place for you.
Food, some dishes were tasty some ordinary, but definitely not enough for 2 to share & less so for 4 as recommended by server;
Meals served at different times so 4 people did not eat together but each couple watched the other eat;
Cocktails, overpriced for a tiny glass of slush with no hint of liquor;
Atmosphere, bland, kept door wide open on a cool rainy day made sitting by the door unpleasant & host refused to move us to back where it was still empty.
Service was acceptable by waitress but downright unacceptable from main host;
After spending $600, they had the gall to ask us to leave immediately after paying bill - better timing required for their reservations to avoid offending patrons;
A lesson in hospitality is in dire need.
Will definitely not return!

I have dined at Limbo three times now & have tried a wide variety of dishes & wines. Each time I have visited, my experience has been better & better. The food is amazing, delicious sauces, local ingredients, knowledgeable & attentive staff & great ambiance. If there is one must try spot in Montreal, it's Limbo!
Tout y est bon & beau! L'endroit est agréable & le personnel est charmant. Les différents plats étaient délicieux, tout est développé dans le détail, jusqu'au beurre en accompagnement. Les desserts sont à tomber par terre! Bonne sélection de vins également :)
Lovely group meal this weekend gone, service was great! There was a vegetarian & a pregnant friend within the group & the kitchen was very accommodating with the family style menu, it was much appreciated!
Great addition to the neighborhood! Make sure to try the beef tongue, tartare & chicken liver pate. I wasn't crazy about the snow crab & scallop dishes, but loved the other ones! Will definitely pass by again
Replacing Marconi with a refreshed dining room , limbo offers a solid but lacklustre experience.
Food was good. Some dishes being very tasty & interesting & some being ok ( but not bad! )
Service was adequate but could be friendlier for sure ( people next to us though the same thing)
Unimpressive cocktails could definetly be improved.
Overall a good experience & will come back in couple months when they settle a bit more with everything

Had the pleasure of dining at Limbo during its very first week-there was a palpable sense of nervous energy & excitement.
1) We started with the beef tartare, topped with trout roe, surrounded by a ring of gelée. We also ordered the house-made sourdough bread & beurre composé: perfectly chewy & flavourful.
2) This was followed by a reinterpretation of poireaux vinaigrette, with leeks layered over perfectly cooked trout confit.
3) Next came the off-menu special: house-cured ham topped with mustard greens, peppery & perfectly dressed just enough to balance the richness of the pork.
3) Then a clean, elegant plate of halibut served with seasonal white asparagus & a light, buttery sauce.
4) For dessert, a showstopper: a meringue'floating island' in a pool of tonka bean-infused crème anglaise, topped with fragrant poached rhubarb.
Overall, 10/10 for a first week, & we are excited to go back.
