Limbo, which has taken over the former Marconi location, came highly recommended-& I was curious to see what they would do with a space I already had a soft spot for. Having been to Salle Climatisé a few times, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, & Limbo delivered a similar style while feeling just a step above. The food was excellent across the board, with quality ingredients, thoughtful presentation, & dishes that were genuinely enjoyable without feeling overdone. The leek starter was delicious. The tartare was also very good, & the lamb may honestly be the best I've ever had. The room itself is busy, crowded, & noisy, so it's not really the place for a quiet romantic dinner. But if you're looking for great food in a lively setting, it's definitely worth booking-just make your reservation well in advance.

I had very high expectations, but unfortunately I left feeling quite disappointed.

With the exception of the female sommelier, almost all of the servers came across as indifferent & unwelcoming. At one point, the same dish was served to us twice, which reflected a lack of attention. They also forgot to bring our welcome drink order altogether. I've dined at many restaurants in this price range, & this was the first time I experienced service that felt this inattentive from start to finish.

When we asked about the chef's choice menu, the explanation was so brief & unenthusiastic that it was difficult to understand. It almost felt like,'Just order whatever you want.'

While I can accept that service isn't always perfect, the food & presentation were also disappointing. Almost every plate had noticeable chips around the rim, which is something I wouldn't expect at this level. Aside from the main course, every dish was served cold, & overall I didn't find the food particularly memorable.

The first cucumber dish tasted little more than pieces of cucumber, without much depth or balance. The tartare had a noticeable fishy smell. The sunflower seed risotto was so salty that it was difficult to eat. I finished it because I didn't want to waste the food, but my mouth actually felt numb from the saltiness. It would have been better if the dish had been properly tasted before being served to guests.

The lobster bisque served with the steak was also excessively salty, to the point that it overwhelmed the entire dish & made it difficult to appreciate the other flavors.

Overall, I left feeling that the experience did not justify the price or the expectations associated with the restaurant.

Oui!!!

I came to this restaurant on a Wednesday night as part of a belated birthday celebration, driving in from NYC. As luck would have it, my Airbnb accommodations fell through last minute & I needed to bring my dog in order to make the reservation. Restaurant Limbo changed our seating to outdoors with zero issue or stress.

As non French speakers, our server Mathilde translated our menu for us in great detail. She gave serving size suggestions & recommended n/a beverages that were great. She truly made must feel confident in our ordering process.

Coming from nyc (& working in a Michelin restaurant myself), Restaurant Limbo set the bar high as our first Montreal dining experience. We tried several courses but the standouts included the Panisse, the Lamb Tartare, & the Morilles. All so flavorful & coursed beautifully. Conor also came to our table to check in & made our dessert recommendation knowing that we were looking for something light.

We finished off our meal with Oeuf à la neige- a merengue with cream & rhubarb. It might have been my favorite dish of the entire evening. So light & the perfect ending to a fantastic dining experience.

Thank you Restaurant Limbo, we will be back!

Great addition to the neighborhood! Make sure to try the beef tongue, tartare & chicken liver pate. I wasn't crazy about the snow crab & scallop dishes, but loved the other ones! Will definitely pass by again

Had the pleasure of dining at Limbo during its very first week-there was a palpable sense of nervous energy & excitement.

1) We started with the beef tartare, topped with trout roe, surrounded by a ring of gelée. We also ordered the house-made sourdough bread & beurre composé: perfectly chewy & flavourful.

2) This was followed by a reinterpretation of poireaux vinaigrette, with leeks layered over perfectly cooked trout confit.

3) Next came the off-menu special: house-cured ham topped with mustard greens, peppery & perfectly dressed just enough to balance the richness of the pork.

3) Then a clean, elegant plate of halibut served with seasonal white asparagus & a light, buttery sauce.

4) For dessert, a showstopper: a meringue'floating island' in a pool of tonka bean-infused crème anglaise, topped with fragrant poached rhubarb.

Overall, 10/10 for a first week, & we are excited to go back.
