Review Summary

Restaurant Limbo is widely celebrated for its creative, seasonally inspired French cuisine and vibrant, cozy atmosphere, with many patrons describing it as a premier dining destination in Montreal. While the majority of diners praise the innovative small plates, exceptional sauces, and professional, knowledgeable service, the experience can occasionally be inconsistent regarding pacing and seasoning. Most guests highly recommend the tasting menu and note the staff's dedication, though a minority of visitors have reported concerns with service attentiveness or flavor balance. Overall, the restaurant is frequently lauded as a sophisticated yet accessible spot, perfect for special occasions or memorable nights out.

This place is very popular among the young crowd (20s to 30s) so it's recommended to make reservations. This restaurant has a nice & simple decor. Even though the waiters are dressed in a very casual way, service is wonderful. They know their stuff well & are very friendly. Foodwise, I was a bit disappointed. They put a lot of care in the presentation. However, the taste isn't there. Most of the appetizers were a bit too acidic & their main dishes were so-so. Nothing exceptional.

Limbo, which has taken over the former Marconi location, came highly recommended-& I was curious to see what they would do with a space I already had a soft spot for. Having been to Salle Climatisé a few times, I had a pretty good idea of what to expect, & Limbo delivered a similar style while feeling just a step above. The food was excellent across the board, with quality ingredients, thoughtful presentation, & dishes that were genuinely enjoyable without feeling overdone. The leek starter was delicious. The tartare was also very good, & the lamb may honestly be the best I've ever had. The room itself is busy, crowded, & noisy, so it's not really the place for a quiet romantic dinner. But if you're looking for great food in a lively setting, it's definitely worth booking-just make your reservation well in advance.

We ordered 6 dishes to share. We started off nicely. The first 4 dishes arrived in a timely manner for a nicely paced meal. The last 2'hot dishes' arrived at 20 to 25 min intervals. What was a nice enjoyable evening, turned into a disappointing evening. It goes without saying, after the long wait for the first hot dish, all we wanted to do was get out of there. We had 2 glasses of wine each. We were not there to drink. We were there to enjoy the cuisine. When we it became obvious that we were not interested in more wine, the server looked after those beside us but would not even look at us. A difficult feat since we were seated at the bar. We got a'sorry for the delay' on the last dish, that was it. So maybe it was a bad night I don't know. Food was great once it arrived. Also it gets loud in there. Maybe it was our location. I would have expected at least the last dish complementary. That was our experience. Not interested in returning. We expected more. I really hope this was a one off for us as the cuisine was wonderful.

Went there for dinner last night, good atmosphere, we did the tasting menu which was good, lots of interesting flavours & creative dishes. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is because they brought the last main which was lamb made 3 ways & there was barely any meat on the plate…we may have gotten 1-1.5 bites of meat each of the plate which was disappointing. Otherwise good experience.

We had a table of 4 & all got the choix du chef (price fixe ~$100 per person). They brought out 5-6 dishes for us all to share, & the food was like fine but it's nothing special, not worth the cost in any way.
Service etc was fine but inequitable in terms of portions .. table next 2 us was 2 ppl on price fixe menu & they received the exact same amount of food… despite us having double the number of people & paying twice as much..! Weird behaviour & left me concerned about the owners liquidity..

Excellent time dining at Limbo this past Sunday. The restaurant is gorgeous & the food is fantastic. While we were there it relatively quiet, which just enhanced our experience. Noted to go out to restaurants on Sundays more often! Our favourite things we had were the squash soup with an oursin sauce ontop, as well as the duck dish which had perfectly cooked duck slices & a duck crepe with orange. It's hard to pick an favourite though because everything was super inventive, fun to eat, & high quality. John & Jack were extremely kind & professional & explained the various dishes, made great recommendations & provided excellent service. Thank you!

The place is a vibe - Good spot for a date or friends night out.
Food is good but uneven - some dishes are a bit of a question mark, others are out of this planet. Any fish plate including the lobster is a home run.

The service is good & a nice conception. The food was good but felt like something was missing. Every appetizer dish was pretty plain.. when ordered heirloom tomatoes was expecting some kind of amazing sauce to pair it with.
The main dishes were fantastic. Both fish & pork were outstanding

If you're looking for an overpriced one-bite tasting experience, this is the place for you.
Food, some dishes were tasty some ordinary, but definitely not enough for 2 to share & less so for 4 as recommended by server;
Meals served at different times so 4 people did not eat together but each couple watched the other eat;
Cocktails, overpriced for a tiny glass of slush with no hint of liquor;
Atmosphere, bland, kept door wide open on a cool rainy day made sitting by the door unpleasant & host refused to move us to back where it was still empty.
Service was acceptable by waitress but downright unacceptable from main host;
After spending $600, they had the gall to ask us to leave immediately after paying bill - better timing required for their reservations to avoid offending patrons;
A lesson in hospitality is in dire need.
Will definitely not return!

I have dined at Limbo three times now & have tried a wide variety of dishes & wines. Each time I have visited, my experience has been better & better. The food is amazing, delicious sauces, local ingredients, knowledgeable & attentive staff & great ambiance. If there is one must try spot in Montreal, it's Limbo!
