Porto Mar Restaurant serves authentic Portuguese cuisine in a warm, relaxed setting in old Montreal, with friendly and attentive staff and a welcoming vibe that makes guests feel at home. The menu shines with seafood offerings like grilled octopus, turbo fish, sardines and cod croquettes, plus a flavorful seafood rice, all described as delicious and well prepared, and the house wine adds to the enjoyable dining experience. The ambiance blends charming decor with Portuguese music, quiet enough for conversation, and the location turns a visit into a memorable occasion whether for a casual night out or a special gathering; the service is consistently praised and patrons often say they will return.
Was our first time at this restaurant & we will definitely return. The food was delicious & so fresh. The waitress was very friendly & the atmosphere was relaxing. The music was nice background music & not the loud music so often seen lately at restaurants. They also had a good variety of Portuguese wines. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
I think it was a very good experience. The food was very delicious. The six of us, including wine & dessert, spent a total of $375, which is really a good deal. I will patronize it again next time I come to Montreal.

Porto Mar is one of the better places to dine in downtown Montreal. Lunch for two with wine & tip is under $100. Portions are perfectly sized & well presented. Food is good & service is excellent.
We had a lovely dinner tonight! Service was incredible. Sarina, our server was great! Spot on when describing the house wines, cod croquettes & dinner menu. Building was beautiful, food cooked perfectly! We had the piri piri shrimp/calamari & salmon. Both large portions & great flavours. Atmosphere was lovely: a quiet & charming building in old port. Thank you again Sarina, we had a great time!
One of the best Portuguese restaurant I've been to in town, specifically in the Old Montreal Area, with it own touch.
The service given was very pleasant, helped us with the wine selection.
Service was friendly. Decor was clean but unexceptional. Calamari was luke warm, bland & limited. Grilled sardines were very good. Cod was good but unexciting. White house wine was quite acceptable. The risk of having $20 charged per person in the event of not showing for a reservation was a bit intimidating & didn't seem to be the norm with the Montreal restaurants. It was also a bit surprising as on Saturday night there were still a log of tables not occupied.

I must admit that my expectations were high heading into Porto Mar, everything we had eaten in Montreal so far had been outstanding.
While the seats show the age of the place & really need to be replaced, the service & explanation of the food & wine list was excellent.
Unfortunately the starters were mediocre & our calamari in the main meals was over cooked, however, the shrimp, peri-peri sauce & veggies were all fantastic.
Overall a decent meal for a reasonable price, with the potential to be so much more
We enjoyed one of the best meals on our 10 day trip through Montreal & Quebec City at Porto Mar. The three course prix fixe meal was the perfect balance with the Portuguese fisherman's stew being an absolute highlight. We also had an excellent Portuguese wine that was recommended by our server since we love Chardonnay & we had difficulty finding that on most Canadian menus or even in liquor stores. Porto Mar has a charming ambiance in old Montreal just off the busy St. Paul street & feel confident in recommending this restaurant.
We absolutely enjoyed the food, atmosphere & service. Thank you for the wonderful suggestion of wine to accompany our meal. No visit would be complete without a visit to the lu via the stunning staircase.
The food is simply cooked & presented, letting the flavours come out. Wine list is small but has something for everyone. Staff were not too overly pushy or bothersome.
All in all a gem in the Old Port, not to me missed

Charming historic setting for fabulous seafood. We had a quiet peaceful table by the window. We had a nice mixed salad, fresh baked cod & a great bottle of red Portuguese wine.
Our server was attentive, kind & helpful. We shall return!!
I had the grilled meats. Excellent! Service was courteous & just right; not rushed & not slow. Good selection of Portuguese wines. Will definitely go back.
A great place with friendly Portugese atmosphere. Very interesting interior design . Food was great : cod , sardines & chefs special fried shrimps . Service excellent. Didn't taste wines . Easy to book online
