This Restaurant is phenomenal. I'm here for work, & my co-worker & I arrived without reservations. Alex, the waiter was able to seat us regardless of how busy they were for the evening. We started with some of the Cod Croquettes & an order of the Chorizo. Both were great! The Chorizo was the perfect cook, & level of spice. For our mains, we both got the fish of the day. I had red snapper, & it was amazing. Cooked perfectly, & the sides of vegies & potatoes were great. My co worker had a different fish, & it's name escapes me, but his was a whole fish grill, & it was a great level of light & flaky. Will definitely be going back before I leave, & thank you Alex for such a great effort in waiting on us. Truly appreciated it.
Porto Mar is a true Old Montreal classic - an upscale yet cozy Portuguese seafood restaurant that has been around for over 20 years, & it still delivers the same quality & authenticity it's known for. It's the perfect spot for family dinners, after?work meals, or bringing someone you want to impress.
The atmosphere is warm & elegant, & the menu is a seafood lover's dream. They offer a vast selection of fresh options, including several catch?of?the?day dishes that highlight just how high?quality their ingredients are. The food has that refined, comforting feel that makes you instantly understand why this place has lasted so long.
The fish & seafood rice was exactly as I remembered it from years ago - rich, flavorful, & reminiscent of true homemade Portuguese cooking. Others at the table ordered the sardines, which were big, bold, & full of flavor, exactly the way proper Portuguese sardines should be.
We chose the table d'hôte, which is absolutely worth it. For just a little more, you get an appetizer & dessert. The chorizo & cod croquettes were delicious, & the desserts were a perfect finish. The lemon mousse surprised everyone - even someone who normally avoids lemon loved it - & the chocolate mousse was rich & satisfying.
They also offer a signature cocktail menu, adding a classy touch to the whole experience.
Overall, Porto Mar is a hidden gem in the Old Port that continues to impress after all these years. Authentic cuisine, fresh seafood, warm service, & a timeless atmosphere. I would 100% come back.

Went here last night in the Old Port & had such a great experience at Porto Mar. You need to check them out ASAP!
Our server Alex was super chill & attentive, & one of the owners, Melanie, came by & was incredibly kind. We even got the chance to speak with the chef, which made the whole experience feel really personal.
Food-wise, everything was fresh & full of flavor. The spicy shrimp were a standout so delicious, I'd go back just for those. I had the turbot (yes, it's a real fish 😂) & it was cooked perfectly. The potatoes on the side were also amazing.
We also had a seafood medley with rice (loaded with clams, mussels, shrimp, salmon, cod basically everything) & it was super saucy & satisfying.
Drinks were on point too loved my old fashioned.
To finish, we had a porto-braised pear with ice cream & it was honestly the perfect dessert.
Beautiful location, especially if you can grab a window seat. Definitely a spot we'll be going back to.

Very good find - I've had cod croquettes, salmon with potatoes & grilled vegetables & caramel flan. Food was delicious! It was also a few mins away by foot from our hotel in Old Town which helped.
If I'm back in Montreal, I'll return!
We had a grand time at Porto Mar. Started with a Porto Tonico, had the cod fritters, the seafood rice & finished it off with flan & a frozen lemon dessert. We loved everything, but we particularly enjoyed the seafood rice as it featured a nice mix of fish & seafood.
We came off the street & had a delicious meal at this cozy restaurant. I had the cod which was excellent, the two others had the liver & tuna which I heard were tasty also. The space is located in an old, cozy building & our server Serena was super attentive & super friendly.
We had a lovely dinner tonight! Service was incredible. Sarina, our server was great! Spot on when describing the house wines, cod croquettes & dinner menu. Building was beautiful, food cooked perfectly! We had the piri piri shrimp/calamari & salmon. Both large portions & great flavours. Atmosphere was lovely: a quiet & charming building in old port. Thank you again Sarina, we had a great time!
A veritable institution for Portuguese cuisine in Old Montreal, Porto Mar offers all the classics you'd expect. The setting is in keeping with those original stone-brick buildings accented with wood trim offering a somewhat somber moody atmosphere. All very historic! Given the configuration of the room, there are several seats at the front with large windows facing d'Youville street & then a cozy similar sized section in the back (itself divided into two by a walkthrough zone) deep into the brick & old wood look. For our meal we opted for the table d'hote...We started with the Caldo Verde Soup (very good but could have been a bit more flavorful) & the Mixed Salad (it was a mixed salad). For our mains we had the Grilled Half Chicken (very moist & tender meat) & the Fish of the Day - Cod (also very good) with a small serving of potatoes & vegetables on the side. Dessert was a traditional & very good Creme Caramel (Flan) & the Chocolate Mousse (good). Service was friendly & helpful with the meal being served promptly. Enjoy!
