Located in Old Montreal since 2005, Porto Mar is the ideal spot for romantic dinners, business meetings, casual encounters, birthdays and other special events. Our restaurant is located in a beautiful historic building with a unique old world charm.
Our menu offers a variety of traditional Portuguese dishes as well as fresh fish, seafood, steak and a choice of grilled specialties. We also have many gluten free options. The food was nothing special. Huge servings but left green beans in my fridge that had more flavour & anyone can poach a salmon & add fresh dill. We had the crème caramel for dessert & mine came with a piece cracked off. My crème caramel is way better! Best thing was the coffee-Nespresso ! Hide the machine !

I think it was a very good experience. The food was very delicious. The six of us, including wine & dessert, spent a total of $375, which is really a good deal. I will patronize it again next time I come to Montreal.

What a gem we found while in old Montreal. We spent time wandering the area & decided to try this place out for lunch. We would recommend this to others. Service was amazing, food was tasty & was out in a reasonable time. Some meals came with coffee/tea & dessert.

I've been coming here weekly when visiting Montréal since last year. It is by far my overall favorite restaurant. The lunch specials are a great value featuring soup or salad, entree with potatoes & vegetables & dessert & coffee. They do magnificent work here & as a very critical reviewer this is indeed one of the best restaurants in Montreal.

We had a wonderful meal at Porto Mar! We got the lunch special which came with a choice of soup or salad. The entree was hearty (grilled chicken, vegetables & fries). It came with dessert. My husband enjoys the grilled sardines & my son got the beef sandwich with fries.

Beautiful Portuguese restaurant in old montreal. We had the table l'hôte menu that came woth starter, main dish & dessert with coffee. Great meal, attentive staff! Totally recommend.

A veritable institution for Portuguese cuisine in Old Montreal, Porto Mar offers all the classics you'd expect. The setting is in keeping with those original stone-brick buildings accented with wood trim offering a somewhat somber moody atmosphere. All very historic! Given the configuration of the room, there are several seats at the front with large windows facing d'Youville street & then a cozy similar sized section in the back (itself divided into two by a walkthrough zone) deep into the brick & old wood look. For our meal we opted for the table d'hote...We started with the Caldo Verde Soup (very good but could have been a bit more flavorful) & the Mixed Salad (it was a mixed salad). For our mains we had the Grilled Half Chicken (very moist & tender meat) & the Fish of the Day - Cod (also very good) with a small serving of potatoes & vegetables on the side. Dessert was a traditional & very good Creme Caramel (Flan) & the Chocolate Mousse (good). Service was friendly & helpful with the meal being served promptly. Enjoy!

This is the best Portuguese restaurant in Montreal. All the plates are so good that it is hard to pick only one. Had the portuguese soup & the fish of the day which was cod & it melted in the mouth. The mix of flavors are exquisite & the portions just right. Dessert was excellent as well. Kudos to the cooks & the staff know how to make you feel at home. I highly recommend this place.

The food was good, good choices on the table d'hôte menu. Our waiter was very nice & also offered to change our dessert included. However, service was very slow! It took 45 min to receive our appetizers & an hour between this dish & our mains! For this reason, I would think twice before returning.

We had a marvelous dinner at Porto Mar.
We decided to go with the Table De Hote option.
I had the shrimp my Wife had the Swordfish. Both were awesome!
We opted for Monte Cristo specially coffees for dessert & were not disappointed with our choice.
Service was above & beyond our expectations.
We'll be back!

- Service impeccable, attentionné & courtois
- Repas de première qualité & en concordance avec le prix (les escargots au porto + les sardines sont exquis en entrée / leur saumon spécialité maison est vraiment bon tel que promis / & oui, les desserts - framboises chaudes + crème glacée & la mousse au chocolat - sont vraiment très bons
