Gourmets know: Lescurier pastry and chocolate shop is a must-visit address in the Outremont district. Established on Van Horne Avenue in 1988, it has delighted generations of Montrealers.
Alex Platel, a pastry chef with over 25 years of experience, took over the reins of this renowned establishment in October 2019.
Overall, reviews of Pâtisserie Alex Platel celebrate fresh, flavorful pastries made with evident passion, with standout items such as croissants, kouign amann, éclairs, fraisier, tarte tatin and mille-feuille, and a strong sense of artisanal craft. The takeout-friendly setup and nearby parks make it easy to enjoy treats outdoors, and many describe the bakery as one of the best in Montreal for pastry lovers. Customers frequently praise variety, quality, and friendly service, and note the shop as a reliable go-to for a quick, delicious bite. Some feedback points to higher prices and smaller portions in recent years, occasional inconsistency, and at least one report of a freshness issue, while a few reviews mention uneven friendliness from staff and the lack of indoor seating. All told, the location is appreciated for its passion-driven offerings and the desire to return to try more pastries and chocolates, even as some shoppers weigh value and consistency.
UPDATE FOLLOWING THEIR REPLY:
The solutions offered were that I could order over the phone, but then I wouldn't get the 10% discount. The other solution was that I wait until their website was up & running - which they said would be Dec. 28th, but it still wasn't ready on Jan. 3, but if I did that, my order wouldn't be ready on time for the event.
As for'closing their website' - they did not close it. They made it difficult to order, which made me, the customer, think there was a glitch. At no point did they put a simple banner up saying that they weren't taking any orders.
Rather than apologize for not putting up a simple banner & for not honouring the 10% off, they've chosen to publicly reply with sarcasm & self-pity. Very childish & the waste of an opportunity to show grace.
& yes, of course I found a place comparable to yours. It's Montreal. Bakeries & great food are on every corner.
ORIGINAL COMPLAINT
Even though their online ordering was non operational for weeks - they didn't honour the 10% off when I did finally get to order. That was the last straw for me. Here's what happened:
They were overwhelmed during Christmas & stopped taking online orders. However, they made no mention of this on their site. Wasted a lot of time trying. I called & they said I could make my order after Dec. 28, but they were wrong. I tried for three days then again on Jan. 2 & Jan. 3. I finally called them on Jan. 3 & they said the site will be ready for orders later in the afternoon, but the order wouldn't be ready for two days. I needed it the next day. They said I could make the order over the phone & that, in doing so, it would be ready. HOWEVER, the 10% off that I signed up for online would not be honoured. So, even though their site had been non functioning for days, Even though they wasted my time trying to order. Even though they gave a date when the site would be working properly. Even with all that being their fault - they would not honour the 10% off. I've been a loyal customer since arriving here four years ago. I even live two blocks from Duc de Lorraine & still went the distance for Alex Patel. But it's time to explore other bakeries. Montreal has plenty.

Please have an English translation of your website.
Update:
I came in again & the staff couldn't even explain what their pastries are made from in English. I don't expect them to know English but at least have the English translation in store written next to each item. It takes 2 sec to translate that in google translator. Little disappointed with the lack of effort in them.
Une vrai boulangerie française, alors vous y aller pour leur créations pas le service.
Excellent croissant. Les gâteaux & tartes sont super. Les quiches individuelles, excellentes.
SO good -- genuinely one of the best croissants I've ever had, including compared to the ones in Paris! Lescurier / Alex Platel features beautiful, perfectly flaky croissants with the most gorgeous laminated dough & golden brown crust. The pastries are buttery & rich, but not so much so that it feels overwhelming, which means that, despite being quite large, they don't feel overly heavy or dense. The chocolatine / pain au chocolat also gives an opportunity to try their delicious home-made chocolate, which is phenomenal!
They don't have any seating inside, but they're located right next to a few parks & stretch of streets with plenty of benches. It's a great spot to pick up a few pastries before enjoying a good walk or hanging out outside. I am SO incredibly excited to have found this spot, & I can't wait to come back to try more of their pastries & chocolates!

Excellent Kouing Aman, light sweet. Croissant is very good, Paris Brest is too sweet for my taste, some might like it, the cream is OK. Chausson aux pommes is more on the bread side.
The overall quality has been consistenly going down in the last 2 years. I can understand the prices going up due to inflation but it just doesn't taste as good as it used to. Proportions are smaller too, even with the increased price.
Too bad so sad, it used to my favorite french bakery in the city.
