The variety of dry & fresh pastries is incredible, with plenty of large cakes as well. I had an éclair, tiramisu, & a coffee - & honestly, it was the best éclair I've ever had.
If you're looking for the real taste of Italy in Montreal, you absolutely have to visit Pasticceria Alati-Caserta in Little Italy. After living in Montreal for a decade & trying countless bakeries, I can honestly say this is the gold standard for Italian pastries in the city.
The cannoli here are out of this world-crispy shells, filled to order with the creamiest ricotta filling (not too sweet, just right). I've brought friends from Italy, & even they were impressed! I also recommend trying their sfogliatelle & marzipan cookies-everything is made fresh & you can truly taste the quality. If you're celebrating something special, their custom cakes are beautifully made & always a hit.
The shop itself is charming & feels like stepping into a little corner of Naples. It can get busy, especially on weekends or around holidays, so be prepared for a bit of a line. But honestly, it's worth the wait. The staff is friendly & will happily help you choose if you're not sure what to try.
Highly recommended for anyone who loves authentic Italian desserts or wants to experience a true Montreal classic.
I recently visited this Italian pastry shop with high hopes, especially for their cannoli, which came highly recommended by social media & highly advertised. The shop has a tempting display of traditional Italian sweets. Seating area outside consists of a bench & picnic table. The lady who served us looked annoyed. Nothing personal, maybe she was having a bad day.
When it came to the cannoli, I have to admit I was underwhelmed. The ricotta filling tasted way too sweet for me & had a mix , I would say a tiny bit of ricotta & very buttery cream in the regular cannoli, the others cannolis had a creamy butter filling. It didn't have the richness or depth of flavor I was hoping for. It wasn't bad-it was just... okay.
That said, some of their other pastries tasted delicious & I'd be willing to give them another shot-just probably not for the cannoli.
Your best cannoli is probably at your local Italian bakery or paistry shop. Mine is!
👌 best italian pantries
You're paying the price, & it is worth it.🥰
This Italian bakery is an absolute gem! The cannolis are the real deal-crispy shells, rich & creamy filling, just like the ones in Italy. You can tell everything is made with love & tradition. Easily the best cannolis I've had outside of Sicily. A must-visit for any pastry lover!
They were out of oven baked zepolle when I arrived in the early afternoon. Only custard filled ones were left (ricotta sold out). Not only did I find $5.95 to be a steep price for a lump of dough, but it was very ordinary. The custard tasted synthetic like from a mix!!!! The kind you get from a super market. What the heck? How is that even possible with all the good reviews here. We also got a slice of cheesecake, which was ok (not sure where they get it from). The cute little lamb pastries sitting in cellophane all around were $15 each, according to a sticker I saw. Hopefully, a mistake? Why so expensive?? In any case, it was my first & last time going there. My quest for Italian baked goods will continue elsewere.
Amazing Italian Desserts!! I tried the nougat which was wonderful, the mini cannoli with pistachio cream, & some almond cookies all very good. There was a good line up so this is obviously a very popular place!
Solid. But i thought the cannoli were lacking compared to a traditional Italian bakery in Philly Boston or NYC
I think I have really high Italian food expectations, being from New Jersey & all. This place was really good! Their cannolis are not too sweet & the éclairs are awesome. The interior is quaint & the service is good. Definitely a must visit when you're in little italy!
We were impressed by the amount of good reviews but unfortunately the cannoli taste is really far from Italian cannoli. Really good catch for tourists in Montreal. I'm putting 5 stars for an excellent marketing nothing else!
Looking for genuine Italian taste in Montreal this is an ever standing location. There is a line up to get in Italian style.
la granita più buona di Montreal ed i pasticcini al lampone più buoni che in Italia bravi e gentili parlano italiano, oltretutto
The Mecca for all classic Italian pastries. A go-to for consistently excellent lemon granita, & the best cannoli in Montreal. Don't forget to grab an iced coffee on your way out in the summer.
The cakes & pastries are superb, & have a excellent selection. It is authentic to Italian cuisine, & it is worth the visit. The cappuccino was also superb.
Amazing pastry! Authentic Italian taste! We were visiting friends who live in this area, & got to enjoy some of these fine pastries. The almond cake was such a delicious treat for me, a nostalgic taste of the Italian bakeries in my own neighbourhood when I was young. The almond paste on the top was just such a delight! Cannolis were spot on. I tried the classic & my husband the pistachio. Wonderful & crisp & real cheese filling. we also really enjoyed the cream coffee! Very delightful in hot weather. Excellent taste, freshness, & selection. We will definitely be visiting this bakery every time we come to visit our friends in Montreal!
As authentic as it gets. If you are looking for an old-school no-frills Italian bakery, this is your home.
great classic italian pastries, I love that place, their cannoli are the best, it's worth the walk given the quality of the product, also IMO the prices are ok
