I usually follow ratings & reviews through Google Maps. Once I saw the 4.8 rating for this restaurant, I immediately went there with my family, only to find really low-quality food (like reheated food) & terrible service (he took our order after 25 minutes of waiting). We asked for two small glasses of beer, & he brought two big ones. We asked for lasagna, & after 15 minutes he said there wasn't any more lasagna. Immediately, I thought: Which Italian restaurant doesn't have lasagna? Only ones that previously bought frozen lasagna instead of preparing it from scratch. That is my impression of this'Italian restaurant.'
A true hidden gem that delivers on every level-flavour, service, & atmosphere. Tucked slightly off the main path, this spot is well worth seeking out.
Service was standout: Sheldon managed the room seamlessly as a one-man host, bartender, & server, all while remaining attentive & welcoming. The food arrived at a comfortable pace & exceeded expectations. The penne featured a vibrant basil flavour with a perfectly crisp, gratinéed cheese topping. The meat lasagna was exceptional-rich, well-balanced, & cooked al dente (easily one of the best we've had). Even the burger, though slightly small, was prepared exactly to preference, & the fries were outstanding.
The space is stylish yet relaxed, with thoughtful details like linen tablecloths & a cohesive, modern aesthetic. Pricing is very reasonable for a downtown location near Old Montreal.
A small note for improvement: the washroom setup could be refined, as it felt a bit cramped & was missing soap during our visit.
Overall, an easy recommendation for anyone looking for high-quality food & genuine service in a comfortable, unpretentious setting.
We just happened upon this place & what a pleasant surprise! Vibes 10/10, we had the penne bolognese & meat lasagna which were both 10/10…service 10/10
Came here for lunch on our last day in mtl before our journey home to Toronto. The food is amazing & our waiter was lovely. We ordered the lasagna & penne bolognese gratin, we will definitely be back next time we're in town!
Incredible italian atmosphere & experience. Christian was our server & he made sure our experience was nothing less than phenomenal. Homemade lasagna & tirmasu is a must have!!
It was our first time at Schiavio's...it won't be our last. The food, Lasagna & gnocchi cace e pepe followed by the tartufo a limone & mini cannoli were authentic & delicious. The service was excellent. Christian, the manager, provided the highest level of attention to detail & was perfectly charming & from our region in Italy.....Le Marche...a bonus. A great go-to spot for lunch or dinner in the downtown core!
