The 16 course meal was a culinary experience of the palate! Nama has 3 parts which make it exceptional… first is the chef/owner Gacong who is knowledgeable, personable, kind & absolutely witty. He is the main player in this well rounded evening. Second is the atmosphere, it's aesthetically beautiful while remaining inviting, it's fresh & upbeat while still feeling intimate. & lastly, the pièce de resistance… the food! From the well curated ingredients & the chefs ingenious pairings, each bite was a moment in time that you can't get back. It always left you wanting more! As he served up his creations one after the other, you were left wondering how each bite was better than the last. We did try two main dishes as well, the crab & eggplant katsu which were cooked to perfection & aesthetically pleasing to the eye. & let's not forget the cocktails, we tried 5 different ones, each were devine in their own right & had a unique & sultry taste. Overall, the evening was perfect in every sense of the word. If you haven't tried Nama, not sure what you're waiting for. It is well worth every penny!! Kudos to the chef 10/10
Vraiment bien comme restaurant ! Belle ambiance, service impeccable & la nourriture sur la coche. Bravo :)
The meal at Nama offered moments of promise, notably the well-cooked but overly sweet Miso Black Cod & attentive, knowledgeable service in an elegant setting. However, execution was inconsistent: the Octopus Leg was dry & flavorless, the Halibut Beurre Blanc was overcooked & poorly balanced, & the $60 Nigiri Omakase lacked standout quality to justify its price. The sake selection also underwhelmed, leaning unexpectedly sweet. Despite its upscale ambitions & strong presentation, Nama fell short of delivering value or consistency, especially compared to other high-end Japanese restaurants in Montreal.
Excellente expérience au Nama! One of the best Omakase menus we've experienced
Great experience!! Delicious flavours! Just a heads up - a few of those courses are just nigiri - granted, the most creative & delicate nigiri that I have had in Montreal, but for those who enjoy bigger meals, I wouldn't come hungry😂. But honestly, some of my favorite courses of this omakase were the nigiris! I loved how they incorporated all the familiar flavours (eg. Ume, yuzu, gochugaru etc) into a new dish while not overpowering the fish itself. & their trou normand (salted cucumber granita) was out of this world. I am a super fan of sweet & salty so all the sweet dishes really spoke to me. & the service was great! Very attentive & well orchestrated while maintaining a super chill & warm vibe. Honestly, a great experience! Bravo, Nama!
5 stars - An Exceptional Omakase Experience
Nama Omakase delivers an unforgettable dining experience from start to finish. Every dish was beautifully plated & thoughtfully crafted, showcasing top-tier ingredients & inspired flavor combinations.
We started with the Scallop Leche de Tigre-Japanese scallop with pomegranate, avocado, shiso, & lemon. Bright, fresh, & incredibly well balanced. The Ora King Tartare with ponzu, wasabi, & watermelon radish was equally stunning-delicate but full of personality.
The Soft Shell Crab was a standout-crispy & rich, served with kimchi, cucumber, salmon roe, & an indulgent spot prawn bisque. The flavors were bold but refined.
We finished with a 12-piece sashimi moriawase & 6-piece nigiri omakase-impeccably fresh fish, perfect rice, & elegant presentation. Every bite was close your eyes heaven.
Service was excellent-attentive, knowledgeable, we arrived really early (5:30pm because we had a show to get to on a Monday night, so despite look was sleek & intimate, making it perfect for a special night out, it wasn't busy. The staff mentionned that we were in fact early
Highly recommended for anyone looking for a next-level omakase in Montreal.
Fantastic omakase tasting menu with a mix of Japanese sushi/sashimi & French influences. All the seafood was beautifully aged & super high quality. The seafood was melt in you mouth delicious. Wagyu was great, but the duck was even better. Good cocktails as well. The price reflects the quality, but good things in life are worth a little splurge.
