I adore Malatang so I might be a little biased, but I loved this place. You grab a bowl, load up on the assorted selection of ingredients, & then the price is calculated by weight. Though it does look like they have combo options too.
This place had a wide selection of ingredients, there was plenty of options! We ordered the spicy beef broth, & it was very rich & flavorful with a nice kick to it. The only thing that I would say is that some of the veggie items didn't look particularly fresh.
The staff was also super nice, offering to explain how ordering works & show you the ropes. Overall, very enjoyable, delicious experience & a fun & unique way to eat! We felt very fulfilled leaving this place.
Came here during my trip because my friend really missed malatang & insisted we try it.
Honestly, the ingredients didn't feel super fresh - there was a bit of a fishy smell near the self-serve area. That said, the final bowl tasted okay, & my friend was satisfied, which made the visit worth it in its own way.
One of my favourite spots in the city. Simple, tasty & comforting. Gets better with every visit as your learn what ingredients you like & what works best together.
Fresh ingredients, fast turnaround, great taste! I will say that the original soup base is not as spicy as the Zhangliang I went to in China, but it's still authentic & delicious 😋
They've gotten cheaper & cheaper with their ingredients as many businesses do when they've been in business for a while. Used to have head on shrimp, better mussels, more veggie options, frog legs. Was a must go spot for me before & I'd order a bunch for the week, but will probably be an occasional thing now.
If you have food allergies or even a basic expectation of hygiene, avoid this place at all costs.
We specifically mentioned dietary restrictions when ordering, only to be met with blank stares & zero understanding. After making our food with the allergens, their brilliant solution?'Just take it out.' Because apparently, removing a solid ingredient magically eliminates all traces of allergens.
To make matters worse, they completely mixed up our soup broths-three different orders, three different flavor preferences, all blended into one chaotic mess. What's the point of customizing your malatang if they're just going to stir everything together like some kind of unfortunate science experiment?
The staff seemed utterly lost, the service was a joke, & the experience left us frustrated & hungry. If you value your health, your time, or even just decent food handling, go literally anywhere else.
Spacious restaurant, Very fresh ingredients & their sauce bar has a lot of diversity ! The Waiter keeps cleaning tables & everywhere, seems very hygienic The broth is not too fat so if you want light broth please come here !
Fun concept. Broths are good, comforting. Good if you crave mild or spicy Malatang as hangover food. You pay at the counter after grabbing the ingredients you wish them to cook for you, so don't expect too much service other than that. It won't necessarily harm your overall experience here. This is my go-to spot for Malatang in Montreal.
Pros & cons. Pros: it's a really fun concept. Love the wide selection of ingredients you get to pick from to create your own bowl & dipping sauce. The bowl is also huge & you can choose from different soup bases. The seating is also nice & comfortable. Cons: the price by weight. I really don't think we can justify it. Yes, you get a lot in the bowl & you'll feel very full afterwards. However the avg bowl is going to be around $45 so get ready to spend. We even saw other ppl being shocked by the price & returning some ingredients. Honestly it's the most expensive soup I've ever had. Personally for the price you can just go to AYCE. I think if they're charging an AYCE price, they should at least make it AYCE style. Also there was no music in the background. It was very quiet & it made us feel even more strange about the amount we spent on a soup bowl. We were very excited to try this place & I wish I could have wrote something more positive. If they consider changing their price we would be more interested in going back.
Nice casual hotpot place with lots of options, very efficient system, but it wasn't always clear what the foods were as the labels were worn out, & for people not familiar with the ingredients it was a bit of a random draw. Kid-friendly, but be careful with those super hot linquids slushing around - bibs recommended (for adults too;))
I always love eating here. Their wide variety of ingredients allows me to always eat what I want. Their ingredients are also always super fresh. The food comes out quickly & always tastes amazing!
Pretty good price in China town. This is a famous chain restaurant & this location isn't too crowded. I paid $26 & am very full. Wide selection of ingredients & soup base is very tasty.
They offer a wide selection of choice, the mala based soup is a bit spicy but not overpowering the other flavors. The only downside is two of the vegetables I picked had a sour taste even though they just brought them to the shelf while I picked my ingredients. I understand it's hard to make sure everything is 100% fresh, but that one or two items that are not ruin the whole experience. Better quality control needed for sure.
Had this for the first time while exploring Mtl's china town, & it was delicious, such a unique style of hot pot/pick your own ingredients. Gentleman working the cash was extremely friendly & approachable, & the chef did a fantastic job on my ramen! Super tasty & I had some left over for the following day. Thank you guys!
This was my first experience I have never tried hot pot before & I liked the concept of picking your own ingredients & paying according to weight ! The spot is kind of hidden in china town I never noticed it before But I am happy I discovered it ! I asked for the vegetarian soup which is tomatoes soup & told them I like it spicy & it was awesome ! I paid 16 dollars ( taxes & tips included ) Kind of feels like your own mom cooking a soup for u & the spot was super comfy & the service extra kind . I asked the waitress questions & she was very helpful ! I will be going back for sure ❤️
Clean & modern place. The concept is very nice & you don't need to cook your ingredient by yourself. Just choose what you want & your hot pot will be delivered to your table
Fun spot for a nourishing meal where you pick out your ingredients using tongs, & is then prepared for you by the kitchen. Service is incredibly fast & helpful.
