Came here during my trip because my friend really missed malatang & insisted we try it.

Honestly, the ingredients didn't feel super fresh - there was a bit of a fishy smell near the self-serve area. That said, the final bowl tasted okay, & my friend was satisfied, which made the visit worth it in its own way.View more

One of my favourite spots in the city. Simple, tasty & comforting. Gets better with every visit as your learn what ingredients you like & what works best together.View more

I used to come here often because the prices were really affordable. But when I visited a few days ago, the price suddenly jumped by over 10 dollars & I always get about the same amount. It used to be around $30 each time, but last time it was $46. It seems like both the owner & staff have changed too. I won't be coming back again.View more

Fresh ingredients, fast turnaround, great taste! I will say that the original soup base is not as spicy as the Zhangliang I went to in China, but it's still authentic & delicious 😋View more

Loved it! Got the original bone broth & it was so flavourful & delicious. Everything was perfectly cooked by the chef in the back. The shrimp & bass fish were especially exceptional. Can't wait to come backView more

It seems like people are complaining about the price but honestly it's less expensive than the malatang spots downtown. They also have combos which are pretty good & even cheaper! I regret not coming here instead it's the same thing & just as good but less expensive than dt . Sauce station is a little lacking but has everything you need. We were served by an old Chinese man & he was honestly so sweet & kind, helped us a lot.View more

I dont usually post reviews but I had not so great experience here.We were in Montreal for the long weekend & decided to dine in. Waited quite long (20mins)for the food to be prepared, only for my food to be undercooked. The potatoes were raw! Theres only one guy at the front (cashier/server) who seems to be the owner & hes unfriendly. This is the first Malatang I've been to where customers have to self serve the water, utensils & napkins! Whats the point of tipping then??View more

They've gotten cheaper & cheaper with their ingredients as many businesses do when they've been in business for a while. Used to have head on shrimp, better mussels, more veggie options, frog legs. Was a must go spot for me before & I'd order a bunch for the week, but will probably be an occasional thing now.View more

Food was absolutely delicious but it was kinda pricey. I went for the classic broth they have & it was mildly spicy with rich flavors. They also had a ton of options to pick.View more

Food didnt taste really fresh… broth was very seasoned so we dont need sauce. The place was also looked dirty from the sauce station, couch was ripped, place didnt look mopped. I was not too comfortableView more

If you have food allergies or even a basic expectation of hygiene, avoid this place at all costs.

We specifically mentioned dietary restrictions when ordering, only to be met with blank stares & zero understanding. After making our food with the allergens, their brilliant solution?'Just take it out.' Because apparently, removing a solid ingredient magically eliminates all traces of allergens.

To make matters worse, they completely mixed up our soup broths-three different orders, three different flavor preferences, all blended into one chaotic mess. What's the point of customizing your malatang if they're just going to stir everything together like some kind of unfortunate science experiment?

The staff seemed utterly lost, the service was a joke, & the experience left us frustrated & hungry. If you value your health, your time, or even just decent food handling, go literally anywhere else.View more

Fun concept. Broths are good, comforting. Good if you crave mild or spicy Malatang as hangover food. You pay at the counter after grabbing the ingredients you wish them to cook for you, so don't expect too much service other than that. It won't necessarily harm your overall experience here. This is my go-to spot for Malatang in Montreal.View more

Pros & cons. Pros: it's a really fun concept. Love the wide selection of ingredients you get to pick from to create your own bowl & dipping sauce. The bowl is also huge & you can choose from different soup bases. The seating is also nice & comfortable. Cons: the price by weight. I really don't think we can justify it. Yes, you get a lot in the bowl & you'll feel very full afterwards. However the avg bowl is going to be around $45 so get ready to spend. We even saw other ppl being shocked by the price & returning some ingredients. Honestly it's the most expensive soup I've ever had. Personally for the price you can just go to AYCE. I think if they're charging an AYCE price, they should at least make it AYCE style. Also there was no music in the background. It was very quiet & it made us feel even more strange about the amount we spent on a soup bowl. We were very excited to try this place & I wish I could have wrote something more positive. If they consider changing their price we would be more interested in going back.View more

Pretty decent bowl of mala soup. I think the owner is a Lady GaGa fan, "Always remember us this way" on loop for my entire meal. Seemless transition.View more
